Diner Reviews
  • "A very creative and eclectic menu. Everything we ordered eas excellent with great flavor and wonderful presentation. Service was attentive and caring. Would definitely recommend."

  • "The food and service were top notch. We had the truffle fries -- perfect, not overpowering with truffle -- and the guacamole which was the best I've had. The hangar steak and burgers were very good and the presentation, even on these simple dishes, was superb. Highly recommend!"

  • "We have not been there for a couple of years... We had heard there were new owners , so we decided to try it out. It was a pleasant surprise. It was very nice new menu and much more reasonable price ! Will definitely go back"

  • "I can't say enough good things about the food at Uproot! We had a fabulous meal and I'd definitely recommend it to others!"

  • "My husband and I recently dined here for the first time to celebrate our 5 year wedding anniversary. My only regret is that we had not been here sooner! The service was fast and friendly and the food was really outstanding. We loved everything we tried! The vegetable lasagna appetizer was delicious as were the fish tacos and burger. Don't miss out on the doughnuts on the dessert menu, yum! We will definitely be coming back here."

  • "Good food, good service in a good atmosphere! Been for lunch and dinner and both were very good. Smart chef -- menu is focused so that he can bring a wonderful Asian infusion to some dishes (like the steak sandwich -- gave that 4 stars!) and beautiful presentation with every dish. The corn chowder special was one of the best we've ever had. My goat cheese and caramlized onion pizza had a light, thin crust that was as good as Italy. And if you like ice cream -- they make their own! Had the thin mint and it was wonderful especially with the chocolate crunch swirled into it. Check out the cinnamon sugar donuts with salty caramel too. Would highly recommend UpRoot."

  • "This was our first time at Uproot. The menu includes delicious items for every palette. The dessert menu, though limited, includes many home made ice creams and sorbets. You must absolutely get the ice cream sundae for 2 which is served in a what can only be called a fish bowl. The restaurant atmosphere and food is what one comes to expect from upscale dining. The service, however, really made the evening so much more enjoyable. Most of the servers were in their early 20's but experienced beyond their years. They had tasted many of the dishes and provided unique and frank explanations of why they loved each one. They catered to our table of four as though we were royalty."

  • "Thought the food was good, not exceptional and the noise was bad"

  • "This was our second time at the restaurant. Overall the food is good and is a great place to go for a casual dinner. The burger was excellent and the salmon was well prepared. The service was excellent. We will return."

  • "Service was excellent and quick, waiter named Dan was great. Fish taco's app was great and so was my cheese burger! Price is competitive for that area, not too expensive, not cheap but definitely worth it...I'll be back."

  • "A chic NyC feel with an eclectic menu. The service was great. My wife and I can not wait to return"

  • "Warren Township and their surrounding areas have been deprived of interesting, fun places to eat for as long as I can remember. I night out has consistently meant heading to NYC, Hoboken, or New Brunswick for better options. Uproot finally brings some life to Warren! It had a fun, vibrant scene on a Saturday night and the food options and affordable prices made it great for groups. Our group enjoyed a bunch of the shareable plates, a few burgers, and a sundae or two and all were pleased with the results. I definitely recommend Uproot to locals craving someplace fun w/o a long drive."

  • "Kitchen constantly tweaks and updates the menu here, so no two visits are alike. The eclectic mix of menu items and specials always seems to work well -- especially the "small plates" to share. Waitstaff does a consistently excellent job helping guests navigate the evolving menu."

  • "We had not been to Uproot for a few years and expected a more formal, occasion type restaurant. It is still beautiful, but no tablecloths, and a menu limited in entrees. That said, once we had our meal we were very pleased with the preparation and taste of every dish. Now that we see that Uproot is more relaxed we will come back for a different experience, and will try more appetizers and sandwiches. But if with a group, the doughnuts are to die for and eat on the spot. Leftovers do not work on this dessert!"

  • "I had enjoyed my first visit to Uproot in Warren. Our server, Dan, made our experience very enjoyable. The food was very good, and we had trouble deciding what to order as everything sounded excellent. We ended up ordering the Mac and Cheese bites, lobster bisque mac and cheese, the blue burger, and roasted chicken as our appetizers and entrees. Everything was very tasty and flavorful and the food presentation was that of a 5 star restaurant. Overall our experience was a pleasant one and will definitely return back for future visits."

  • "Executive Chef Mark Farro has mastered basic dishes with amazing ingredients and flare. He is young and smart not to mention very very talented. Uproots menu ranges from Tacos with braised pork to Hamburgers with all the fixings. YOU have to try his waffle fries w/sea salt. Whatever your occasion, try uproot. You will put this on your let's go back again and again list."

  • "Uproot never disappoints. The food is always delicious. Their menu changes every few months and its great to be able to try new things. My favorite is their Cinnamon & Sugar donuts - they are to die for."

  • "Great restaurant! Nice variety of food on the dinner menu - from lighter fare to more traditional entrees. Wine was out of this world! Owner/manager came by to say "hello" towards end of the evening. Very nice personal touch. Highly recommend!"

  • "The menu has recently been modified. For apps, we ordered the wings and tostadas; the prices seem high, but they're worth it (at least to try once). The wait staff was attentive. The noise level is comparable to that of a place that's busy."

  • "Tasty, unique combinations such as a shredded lamb pasta and a cold asparagus soup confirm Uproot's evolution to the tastiest, casual spot in Washington Valley."

  • "Though located in a strip mall, overall a decent option for dinner. Somewhat NYC feel though food wasn't as hot as it should have been and service was very slow. Very good drink options."
    Dined on 3/1/2014
  • "Salmon & Quinoa entree was excellent. If only, my daughter-in-law did not develop a bad reaction to her "green tea", of all things!!! Attention to refilling coffee & inquiring whether it was hot enough or whether a fresh cup was preferred was not addressed by wait staff. Only received more coffee after bringing request to manager passing by."

  • "I've been here twice with my husband, once in June, we sat outside on the patio and once inside. I requested a quiet table and we actually got one. The wine list is also really nice as is the food and service."

  • "Opted for the Greek salad with grilled shrimp. Salad was the worst I've had in a restaurant...EVER. Should have sent it back. Other meals ordered at the table were fine."

  • "We are a family of four and are regulars for juicy burgers and wings and wedge salad, friendly wait staff, but a little pricey"

  • "I took my wife here for Valentine's Day. The food was excellent. We started off with grilled octopus. My wife had shrimp and brown rice for dinner while I had the duck. Overall it was very good. Final bill was a little higher than I was expecting. ($200 for two people with tip)"

  • "From the friendly welcome, to the perfect table, fantastic service and outstanding food this was indeed a memorable experience. Short Rib stew, delictable, Bahn Mi tacos and the Tuna Tatare were off the charts, superb texture and flavor on the duck and we cannot forget the donuts and the salted caramel dipping sauce. It was a Birthday Celebration for my wife and daughter and we could not have chosen a better place. Nice relaxed ambience, not too loud, very little wait time despite the fact the restaurant was at capacity when we arrived. My thanks to the waiter, owner and kitchen staff for one of the best dinners I have ever had making this a very special celebration for us. We shall return."

  • "We heard about Uproot from a friend and we decided to make a trip here to celebrate the date with a nice dinner at a new place. We were not at all disappointed. The space was outstanding, a large open area but at the same time giving off a very homey feel to it. The earthen colors and decor really give off a great vibe while you are looking over the menu, which is a wonderful blend of upscale techniques and quality products used on some old favorites and some new ideas that blew us away. The servers seem to be well versed in fine dining etiquette, and make you feel as though you are spending much more for your meal then you actually are. Very attentive, friendly, and must have had great training and practice to get to their level of skill."

  • "If you live nearby UpRoot is the best restaurant to have dinner or lunch at. The entre and appetizers are excellent produced from an obviously talented Chef. And don't miss the dipping donuts for a wonderful shared desert."

  • "When you first look at the menu, it's hard to figure out what type of restaurant Uproot is trying to be. Then you hone in on something you'd like to eat, order it, and OMG!!! I adore the eggplant meatballs (that have no meat in them). The mussels have some of the best broth I've had on the East coast. The pasta I had the other night was outstanding. Thoroughly enjoy the food!!!"

  • "We had an early dinner on a Friday night, and every bite was delicious. However, due to its need to offer a less-expensive and more family-friendly menu, the "full-meal" part of the menu is a bit limited. However, the items on it are perfection. In relation to the service, in addition to excellent table service, we had a little issue that was well handled. We ordered a wine that it turned out I did not like. There was nothing wrong with it, I just did not like it. The manager made a significant effort to understand what i did like, and changed it. He also checked back later to make sure all was well, and it was!"

  • "We had heard mixed reviews from people we knew but we hadn't tried Uproot yet and were pleasantly surprised. We went just a table for 2 to celebrate my wifes birthday. We were greeted warmly and having a semi formal coat service is a big plus this time of year. We were seated at a table with a chair and part of a common bench that my wife felt was a little squishy. we loved the solid surface tables, sleek and easy to keep clean. We had the edamame and spring rolls ,the sauteed shrimp with veggies, and the Rib-eye special. The Steak was fantastic, cooked perfectly medium rare, sliced over wilted spinach and top with potato straws. You could cut it with a fork! Donuts were a unique and delicious dessert."

  • "I have never encountered a problem or had a complaint at Uproot. The kitchen has always been spot on. There are some items on the menu that are quite expensive, even on the apps list, it is very possible to fill up with a good meal for two with a bill plus 20% tip that is under $50; we just did it. However we didn't have drinks."

  • "Had a great meal here again. We were a group of 4. We started out with the tuna apps as well as the Banh Mi Tacos - both were excellent. We asked for an extra Taco - normally there are 3 for $10.99 - and there was only a $2 uptick - which was eminently fair. I had the Short Rib stew - which was really exceptional! Slightly on the rich side but it did not stop me from finishing every drop! Two in the group got a Pork special which they loved, and one of us got a Bleu Cheese Burger. Everyone enjoyed their meal. My only gripe is that yet again the choices for dessert leave something to be desired. I have yet to see anything on the dessert menu I'd want to eat. How about something chocolate? How about some "normal" ice cream flavors?"

  • "I had heard from others that this restaurant scaled back to make it more appropriate for the town, and it was excellent. The food was great, and after writing a note in the reservation that a member of our party was turning 21, they provided her with a free shot! Great experience overall."
    Dined on 1/3/2014
  • "Everyone in our party loved the quality and preparation of the food. The menu has been simplified since we were last there and at first we were disappointed that the restaurant became more casual. However, once we dug in, we were very pleased with their choices. We are finding that more and more NJ restaurants are cutting back from upscale to casual. In this case, do not be afraid to go - you will be more than satisfied."

  • "I ate here a few years back when it was more upscale/pretentious and was pleasantly surprised by the new, lighter menu, with great casual but still upscale presentations of classic American food. Strong wine list and strong menu with lots to eat if you are hungry or just want to graze. Two thumbs up!"

  • "We loved the original menu when UpRoot opened, and we have adjusted to the scaled down, bistro-style menu. Restaurants have to adjust to meet the desires of their customers, and this one has gone very casual. Christmas Eve and many of the diners were dressed in jeans and very casual - a bit too casual for the holiday and for the decor. Ve The quality of the food has not wavered and for that we are grateful. We had salmon served with a risotto styled farro and it was excellent . Appetizers were crab bites and steamed shrimp dumplings and both were excellent..Our 10 year old was very pleased with her dinner and the desserts were terrific."
