  • "Upper West is hot...and so cool. The bar was lively, tables continued to fill and turn over which made us feel we had discovered somewhere special. The ambience is reminiscent of a hip New York City place but spacious. The menu reads like a crafted novel - each item is interesting with a twist. Seasonal ingredients and unique but intriguing combinations. And the good delivered on it's promise. The major weakness was the service. Our waitress lacked in her role as a server. She was obtrusive and acted as if she were a new friend - not in a good way - crashing into our conversation when it seced her, not us."

  • "The Upper West is one of my favorite spots in WLA. I fell in love with this restaurant because the food is absolutely delicious! my favorite dishes are too many to enumerate but feel free to try the tuna tacos, the burrata, the filet mignon, the chicken tawook, etc. All of these will never disappoint. I bring my hotel contacts to Upper West for lunch and they all want to go back when they visit me. And the staff is also wonderful and their impeccable service adds to the experience."

  • "I've seen this place for along time but never thought about trying it. The answer is YES !! Go to a nondescript area for this experience. Very interesting mix of ingredients and spices on most of the entrees. The Garden Salad was exceptional with it's mix of many different veggies and fruit. Everything we had was delicious. Our server was exceptional. Friendly, knowledgeable, just the right amount of attention, and obviously liking her job."

Lunch is a completely different ambiance - quiet enough to hear each other speak and hold a luncheon meeting, excellent service & food. Had the garden salad with crusted ahi that was excellent! Parking was not a problem on the street - many meters. Look forward to returning for lunch the next chance I get."

  • "Besides having our server (if that's what you want to call her) screw up our order TWICE (which made us have to have one entree delivered first and then the "fixed" entree delivered much later which meant we had to pretty much SHARE a plate), as well as me ASKING if she's going to OPEN our bottle of wine, as well as NOT checking up on our table during our dinner to the point that we literally said to each other that "we are NEVER coming back here again" only to be told by the Manager that this particular "server" was "going through some personal/family issues that day" is absolutely insane... (we did get a $28 discount on our $100 "meal", but money was NOT the issue here, it's was the TERRIBLE service AND a PATHETIC excuse. Never again.."

  • "I celebrated my birthday here and i would love to say it has been the best dine in place i've been to. They were very attentive and patient to all my guests including myself who ordered 10 different things at once. The initial head count was 10 but ended up with a total of 17 guests. The co-owner made sure that everyone was accommodated and got the five star experience, despite the fact that this place is always jam packed on the weekends ! I'd definitely come back and would highly recommend it to all my family and friends. Keep up the good work! I wish you all the the best for your business"

  • "I usually pop in for happy hour with a friend or two. It's been consistent and delicious. But dinner with reservations fell short. First our table wasn't ready. Not a problem as it was a busy Wednesday. Drinks were great. My order, highly recommended by the server, was so-so. No problem. Still good to try. Then dessert came and it was not a disaster but disappointment. It took a lil too long and then some confusion over ice cream. The chef came out and tried his best to keep my table happy. That was nice. I don't really mind as things happen but one of my table mates was really taken aback. So lesson learned. Stick to happy hour, mates."

  • "I had dinner here for my birthday dinner. The restaurant does get noisy from the packed hoise at dinner time and is small restaurant, but it has a nice ambiance and I liked the decor. I tasted all my friend's food and everything was delicious including their specialty drinks. The service was great and I will definitely return, maybe try their lunch next time."

  • "Traveled from Long Beach to an amazing dining experience. At 6:30 the restaurant was already nearly filled with customers in both the bar and dining room, giving the restaurant a great energy. The watermelon mojito was delicious! The appetizers, entrees, vegetable sides and desserts we ordered were delicious. We felt there was only one miss.....the homemade chips appetizer. We were thinking the chips would be served with the sauce for dipping, instead it came poured over the chips making them soggy and definitely not a finger food. Looking forward to another visit to Upper West. Save room for dessert, cheesecake fans do not skip the peanut butter cheesecake."

However, they had some film shoot or something happening, therefore, I think the staff were more interesed in that vs. the customer. The food was not exceptionally great, it was ok. I had a chicken dish with arugula on top. The waiter was friendly. I would come back, the atmosphere was good."

  • "Been going to Upper West since it opened and like the food, however, portions have gotten smaller and more expensive. My husband ordered the entrée short ribs, very small, should have called it an appetizer. Another person ordered the steak, it was a kids portion. My suggestion, you should ask the wait person how big or small the portions as you may want to order a few or something else. The prices have also gone up and portions have shrunk, not a good thing."

  • "The food was below average. My crab cakes sandwich was uneatable. The crab cakes were burnt and the focacia bread was hard. The chips that come with the sandwich was stale. Our dinner took almost 2 hours because our waitress was not attentive. I would not recommend."

The carrot cake/ice cream dessert was disappointing but not a distraction. Don't go for conversation as it's loud! But a great atmosphere and surely a hot spot in town. Loved it."

  • "First, we are from out of town so perhaps this isn't a real hidden treasure as the place was full by the time we left. But we were very surprised that such a nice restaurant (atmosphere, food, servers) was tucked away on Pico Blvd. We were in town for a local concert and were pleased when the artist walked in for dinner also. The food was a little slow to come out considering it was only 6pm, but that just meant we got to enjoy the environment longer. We will be back!"

  • "We hosted a lovely networking dinner for our favorite business women friends. Upper West's staff was gracious from the moment we walked in until we sauntered out almost 3 hours later. The room's din grew a bit loud at the height of the dinner rush, but the delicious food and wonderful service more than made up for it. My family has resided in Sunset Park for years and we always love Upper West as the go-to spot for almost all occasions"

The service was good but there was a problem with wine pricing that should have been adjusted to what was on the chalk board but wasn't. Not a very good customer service policy."

  • "Our first visit here on the recommendation of our son. Hostess was very accommodating by giving us a table for one more unexpected guest for dinner. The window tables are better since the noise level is somewhat muted. The service was very pleasant and efficient; we had a great waitress, and we were not rushed with ordering our meal or with how long we stayed. The corn soup I had was really tasty and a bit eclectic. There could have been more mussels in the appetizer dish, but overall everyone was pleased with the dishes they ordered. We hope this place is consistent with its food and service, and if so, it is definitely a "will return place"."

  • "The first time I came here I fell in love! The food has been nothing but delicious and perfect. 2nd time around was such a big disappointment! I took my fiancé to celebrate his birthday and while our food was delicious - we were completely abandoned by our waiter! We were never given an opportunity to order another round of drinks, our water was never filled, we sat with our finished dinner plates for at least 20 minutes AND on top of all of that I asked our waiter (when we saw him) for the dessert menu four times after I specifically mentioned to him and made a note on Open Table that it was my fiancé's birthday. It's not cheap here so I hoped the night would have been better. Not sure if we are going back yet ..."

  • "I give this place a 10 when it comes to happy hour, although we were not given the menu when we first sat down. We were just given the regular menu. We also had to ask about the 3 course meal, as it was Wednesday, and I had read about both that and the happy hour on line. The appetizers were the best part of the dinner, and I would come back anytime for happy hour! My main was the burger, which was a shame for the $16 I paid for it. I had asked for it to be med rare, but it was well done, had none of that onion jam on it, and was just a very mediocre burger. Then, the desert was also not great. It was the chocolate tart, which was tough and not tasty at all. For once, I didn't finish my desert, which is rare. Thnx for comped desert."
