  • "There are 3 "finest" dining restaurants in my view in the Vail Valley plus many wannabes. Up the Creek is a small unpretentious "fine" dining restaurant. We did a late after concert dinner there. My wife had vegetable ceviche and a calamari. I had beef Carpaccio and a potato gnocchi. We selected a table that was not outside, but was just behind the rolling wall that overlooks gore creek. The food was well prepared and tasty. The wine list is medium sized but well constructed we had a wonderful bottle of a Tally, a bit uncommon. All in all every time we eat there (once per trip to the valley) and always find the food good. We treat it as not an everyday restaurant, but not a blow up your wallet once a year experience either."

  • "It was our second time in 4 nights at our favorite Vail establishment and the food and service didn't lessen from previous experiences. The ribs and macaroni are unlike anywhere else! The specials this particular night (pumpkin gnochi) matched their signature dish. The only drawback this time was a table of two couples with at least two doctors (takes one to know one) regaling their dinner mates with stories of clinical prowess and financial success. That wouldn't have been so bad had it not been that no table in their vicinity could hear anything but their loud banter. Couldn't carry on a decent conversation at our table b/o the decibel level. Not the fault of the restaurant, but it is a small establishment so buyer beware."

All four of us order the same braised ribs and Gouda macaroni. It is simply spectacular! If I had only one meal to eat while and they'll it would be at up the Creek. Keep getting better!"

  • "Made a reservation for Christmas Eve and even after receiving multiple confirmations via email did not have a reservation when my family and I showed up on the 24th. They ended up accommodating us and while the food and service were great it would have been nice to feel like they had been expecting us and have a table with a view of the creek and not something they put together for us in the back of the restaurant for this special occasion."

  • "Decided to try Up the Creek based on its high Open Table rating. Were disappointed. Do not feel that the rating, or the prices, are warranted. 1st, the positives. The server was nice and the restaurant has a pleasant, cozy ambiance. What lets it down is the quality of the food. The 7X (Cobe) Carpaccio appetizer was good but the Duck Confit (leg) was dry and without much flavor. The Short Rib was basically boiled beef -- very tender but not a lot of flavor. The 7X NY Strip definitely not worth $60 -- had much better Ribeye at a chain in Denver for 1/3 the price. The special Rocky Mountain Elk Loin was another disappointment -- the coffee rub is a mismatch to the flavor of the meat. Of 5 Vail restaurants we visited, this was by far the worst."

They were totally accommodating regarding my gluten-free needs, and I had the most delicious trout! Add the great food to amazing ambience...watching the creek roll by...a perfect evening! They even shared the secret of the bacon-infused bourbon...guess what people will be getting from me for Christmas???"

Busy but not crowded this place is tucked away with a great view of Gore Creek. Good portion sizes and delicious food make this a must try! I recommend the Braised Short Rib, it's fantastic. Friendly service with good timing makes a wonderful rounded dining experience."

  • "This trip was a girls weekend and we wanted to have one fabulous dinner while we were in Vail. We chose "Up the Creek" and so glad we did! It was mid September, slow season, and all entrees were half price. We sat outside near the river and it was the perfect environment. I chose the cucumber gin martini - wow, and my friend chose the mojito - yummy! The calamari appetizer was amazing...and the elk tenderloin and trout as entrees rounded out the meal. Our waitress Haley rocked....and was very attentive. She was great! We are so glad we chose "Up the Creek"."
