  • "Think back to watching A Christmas Story, and remember the Ovaltine fiasco. My dining experience wasn't quite as disappointing as Ralphie's let-down, but I was pretty bummed when Up wasn't the best thing to ever happen to me. There was nothing wrong. At all. And I can't even tell you what I would've liked to make the experience better. But when I had been told over and over about how amazing everything was and everything came out 'pretty good,' I was disappointed. Houston is home to the $25 entree of awesomeness. Up was home to the $25 plate of 'pretty good'-ness"

  • "My husband and I decided last minute to make reservations at UP. When we got there were seated promptly, our server came over right away and was very helpful. We were told about the off the menu items as well as his recommendations. Even though we frequent UP, we let him go on. Our drinks and appetizer (the lobster tempura is delicious!)were great. Our Entrée was even better. We would go back anytime."

  • "Overall, this was a good find. The restaurant is very trendy and the wait staff wonderful. The wine by the glass was not great. We eventually purchased a bottle and were quite satisfied. The appetizers were excellent especially the grilled oysters. The meals were good. I recommend having desert."

  • "Very impressed with the ambiance & beautiful decor of UP, situated on the third floor. The owner stopped by to discuss food allergies, & went above & beyond to accommodate us. Truly exceptional service, and the food was divine - we first enjoyed a delicious spicy tuna sushi appetizer. Then our entrees arrived, & we were STUNNED by the small portions. For $38, I had 2 medium-sized lamb chops & sauteed peppers. I ate everything within 5 minutes, & I was still starving. For $24, my husband had 4 medium-sized shrimp, a/b a 1/2 cup of rice & small serving of fries. Again, TINY portions. We are light eaters, so I cannot imagine a diner with a larger appetite leaving full. I am disappointed, because we otherwise thoroughly enjoyed our experience. "

  • "I took my granddaughter and boyfriend who both just graduated from Texas A&M to dinner at UP and I could not have chosen a better place to dine. The food was delicious, the service great and the lady at the front dest made you feel welcome from the time you walked in when she greeteed you with a beautiful smile until she said goodbye when we left. We will delifintely return. Grat Evening all around"

  • "This restaurant was fair. The service was pretty lacking. First, the server got cork into the wine and then failed to wipe the bottle after pouring, leaving wine drops streaming down the side of the bottle. The chef's special, prime rib, was also overcooked and needed to be sent back. The tuna tartare was fabulous, however, and was the only saving grace. "

  • "The food was just ok. The location is awesome, the ambiance is excellent, and the service superb. We were there for our 9th wedding anniversary and wanted something special. They ran out of the lamb chops, the lobster ravioli was hard and not very filled. I was not impressed by the food at all. The bread was good though. Definitely not worth the $100 we spent. We'll just go to pappadeaux's next time."

  • "Up is a hidden gem. Great ambiance, subdued atmosphere, a good place to converse. We most enjoyed the fact that we could hold a conversation without having to yell over loud music and blaring televisions. This is not a restaurant to bring children, unless they are really well behaved and can sit still."

  • "I took 8 people for dinner. The service was slow. The food did not come out even close to the same time. Knowing that there was a problem management sent over a bottle of wine when there were several people at the table not drinking and two were reformed alcoholics. They just started sitting wine glasses and pouring without asking anyone. "

  • "My first visit to Up was last year and I gave it rave reviews on B4ueat Houston, which apparently no longer exists. I took a friend for lunch this week promising her the best at this restaurant. The bread, which was supposed to be crispy, was soft and old tasting. It was replaced with a crispier version. The lobster bisque was a little strange and the redfish was below par. The macarons were not the best I have had. I think quantity has replaced quality. Wine at $13.00 a glass and not a very generous pour. When I visited this restaurant last year it was packed at lunch time so I made reservations. Apparently reservations were not necessary since only two more tables were occupied during the hour we were there. "

  • "My wife and I have visited up on a few special occasions like our anniversary and valentine's day and we really enjoyed the restaurant. However, when we took our family for Easter Brunch were really disappointed with the quality of the food. Every other time we have really enjoyed ourselves but some of the items were just not up to par. Especially bad was the leg of lamb. My son and i both ordered it and we got two pieces of "meat" that were mostly fat. Its not often you are served a piece of meat that jiggles when they set it down There was quite a bit of gristle too. it really ruined the outing for us. "

  • "Went there on Friday night before going for a movie. I booked through open table 45 min before and found it very easy to get a table for 2. The experience was really good. We had an early reservation and although the music is loud, it is just enough to cover everyone else's conversation without preventing you from following your own. The food was very good and in just the right amount. The server was very professional and always available right away. The view and atmosphere makes this a unique venue in the area. Approved!"

  • "My girlfriends and I enjoyed a fantastic evening at Up. While I have been to Up numerous times for lunch and have rarely been impressed with the service, this night the service did match the food. Our waiter was very good and easily managed our table of 10 and ensured our wine glasses remained filled and our needs were all met. While one of us had a bad side of black rice, our waiter, the manager and the chef were quick to address it and came out to our table to apologize. Every other item we ordered was amazing and I will definitely think of Up next time I have a larger group. Great evening."

  • "My boyfriend and I went here for Valentines. We actually went the day after Valentines to try and avoid the crowds. It was our first time here. Initially we thought it was beautiful and really enjoyed the ambience. However, shortly after we arrived a table of 20+ teenagers came in and they set up a photo booth about 20ft from our table. A PHOTO BOOTH. Also, they were blaring loud music, it felt like suddenly our romantic night was the background to a tween party. The teenagers were walking all around, not sitting at their table, it was very distracting. The food was okay, nothing remarkable."

  • "Read some reviews on yelp and saw the food reviews werent so great. But, i liked the location and the ambiance looked interesting. First off, the pre- dinner rolls were cold in the middle. However, i was quickly brough another. I thought it was going to be downhill from there. Appetizer (some sort of lobster/crab dip) was alright. Just as a i was going to throw in the towel.. the lamb chops were AMAZING! good wine list, and service was great. Its very pretty inside. My sister had some ravioli which was also AMAZING. i give it 4 stars bc the lamb was that good. Kinda over priced but expected it. worth trying."

  • "The service was fantastic. I have no complaint about it. Once we were done with a plate it was almost immediately taken from our table. :) The only problem I came across was that my medium-well filet mignon was NOT worth the money I paid for. It didn't come with any sides and the flavor just wasn't as outstanding as I was expecting. I have had some good steak, but this just wasn't up to par."

  • "I was at dinner Saturday evening with my 83 year old almost mother-in-law for her birthday. I mentioned her name and birthday in my comments on the open table reservation form. I also mentioned it when we arrived--but I didn't have to. From the lovely hostess who first greeted us and made a point to stop by our table a few times during the evening to speak to the birthday girl, and the wait staff --none could have been more quietly attentive and kind. The dinner was delicious and the ambience was wonderful. the valets outside made the long walk to the front door through the construction in the rain unnoticeable. The lovely lady who was celebrating her birthday was so thrilled with the attention she told me it was her best birthday ever."

The food and ambiance are wonderful and when coupled with the excellent service we've become accustomed to, we will be going back at least monthly.   • "However, the quality of the food wasn't commensurate with the pricing. At all. Service was okay. Didn't like the fact that we were served bottled flat water and charged while other tables were refilled with pitchers. Not at all opposed to paying, but the server was rude when someone inquired and flat out lied when providing an explanation. Environment and ambiance are beautiful however so if I were to go back I'd just sit at the bar."

  • "I took my wife here for a pre-Valentine's surprise dinner because she always wanted to try this place. Everything was excellent from the complimentary valet to the prompt service to the food. Our waiter was very attentive and the noise level was perfect for the scene. The only thing that was a bit of a let down was the lobster mac and cheese. It could have used a bit more seasoning and a thicker cheese sauce. Other than that I have NO complaints. We will definitely be dining there again."
