  • "My fiance and I recently went to Up for Restaurant Weeks. I really loved the ambiance and you enter the restaurant through an elevator! how cool!! And our waiter Alfonso was AMAZING! He so polite and always seemed to know the right time to come by and check on us. My main issue, honestly, was the food. For the appetizer I got the octopus and he got the tempura fried lobster. The lobster was dry and the octopus was under seasoned. For the main course, he got the seafood paella - but there were broken mussel shells all in it; making eating kind of hazardous. But the ravioli I ordered and both of the desserts were delicious! But with lots of good restaurant in Houston, I would be hesitant to come back and spend so much $ again."

  • "When a restaurant is open for lunch, it must know that there are people that are there to eat on their lunch break from work. As a result, you would think an extra effort should be made to expedite lunch service or at least ask patrons if they have to get back to work etc. The service was slow and the servers brought the wrong food/drinks to our table twice."

  • "A friend and I had lunch this week at UP and had the Restaurant Weeks menu. After waiting for 15 minutes, we had to flag someone down to tell them we did not have a waiter. Even then, service was incredibly slow. Both my friend and I had eaten at Up before and enjoyed it, but this was a let down. I am not sure if I would return.."

  • "Although our service was very good and server very attentive we were disappointed with our evening at Up which was an anniversary celebration. My Dover sole was delicious but at $42 should think so. My husbands Paella was completely dry... No broth. I cannot believe the kitchen sent it that way or that our server served it that way. No mention was made of our special event. For the price there are just so many better restaurants in a Houston."

  • "I've been to UP twice for Houston Restaurant Weeks (lunch) and it is now one of my favorites. The cheesy crackers to start, the upscale decor (biggest crystal ball chandelier that I've ever seen), and the vast array of food choices - simple to fancy - are what will bring me back time and again. The service is good and meals are delivered timely and with precision. The portion sizes are nice that you won't need a 'to go' container, but a proper size to fill you up. Don't be fooled by the signage in the area - the UP sign is on all of the marquees up and down Highland Village, so it can be confusing if you don't know where to go. Just remember: Valet is at the corner of Drexel and Westheimer. Take the Elevator to Floor 3 and enjoy!"

  • "Had a reservation for 8:45 pm on Saturday. Waited 30 minutes to sit down. Waiter (George) came by and took our wine order. Fifteen minutes later he comes back and asks us what we would like for dinner. At this point we had no wine, no water, nothing.....and he is asking us what we would like to order. I don't blame him entirely.....I blame the 'Management'.....horrible. We were not waiting any longer....we left."

  • "Either the Servers have not been trained properly or the Kitchen has very poor timing. The all courses were brought out in stages. Men were served first every course. 2nd course which was the Entree was sent out in stages again with about a 5 minute delay between my dish arriving to the table and then my husbands.My food was cold by the time his arrived. One of our guests had ordered the Bouillabaisse and when it finally arrived the server was not paying attention and poured the soup into the bowl which shot out and spilled all over his lap and burned his finger. Dessert came out at various times, the creme brûlée was not set (under cooked). Some of us were served desserts we did not order. The Floor Manager couldn't have cared less."

  • "I've always had a problem with my baby face, but I would never expect an "up scaled" restaurant to give me that problem. They're very judgmental of how you look, and treat you poorly in accordance. It took so long just to get our order, that I started timing it on my phone. Between courses, waiters repeatedly ignored us. They wouldn't clear our table, or refill our drinks. Our food took so long, that when we finally had it, it was lukewarm. Terrible service, asked for the manager, even he didn't look like he cared much for how we were treated."

  • "I went to Up's Sunday brunch for the first time recently. Overall the food was good. But when we arrived, all the reservations were backed up so we had to wait a bit because they seemed to have overbooked reservations. That wasn't too bad. The food came out promptly and it was tasty. However, we had to ask several times for water refills when we were running low. Also, when my food arrived, there was a huge egg shell piece in it. It was about an inch."

  • "We made a reservation a week in advance and requested a table with a view. Upon arrival, without apology, the hostess brought us to a booth near the rear of the dining room. She acknowledged our reservation, but said everyone wants a table with a view and customers are accommodated on a first come, first served basis. She said a table with a view would be available in 15-20 minutes. Thirty minutes after arrival and not being allowed to speak with the manager, we left and had a fabulous dinner next door at Smith and Wollensky. We’ve made reservations at special Houston restaurants, including the Capital Grille, Mark's and Tony’s. Each time we were treated like royalty. In conclusion, we will never return to the Up Restaurant."

  • "Two couples went for dinner during Houston Restaurant Week. Octopus and salad were hits; lobster bisque, not so much. Noticable lobster would have helped. Shortribs was a definite hit. Ravioli was interesting and surprisingly filling. Seafood paella was so spicy it overwhelmed the seafood. Credit for using individual paella pan but deduction for seafood: two muscles and shrimp, maybe two scallops wasn't real impressive Bouillabaisse was worse. Two muscles, two tiny clams (freshness?) and two very tiny rubbery pieces of fish drowned in a disappointing broth was not expected. On the plus side, the recommended wine pairings were spot on and desserts, especially the Crepe Suzette Cake, were outstanding."

  • "Gourmet food with great wine pairing. However, the locater bisque was luke warm, the octopus appetizer was over charred on the inside and not fully coked on the inside. The paella was tasty but one out of only 2 mussel did not open, this not edible. Chocolate crembule taste more like chocolate pudding. Short rib is excellent, falling off bone and tasty. Chilean sea bass was very juicy and tasty but black Rice was to hard, almost seem not cooked fully."

  • "Went for lunch during HRW and had the gazpacho and the veal. The gazpacho was very tasty, the veal was good. Nothing out of this world. Just good. My bf has the duck confit and really enjoyed it. We also had the crepe suzette which was pretty good and the creme brulee which tasted good but it was more of a chocolate pudding than creme brulee."

  • "My husband and I ordered from the Houston Restaurant Weeks menu, and had some concerns after reading previous reviews. To our surprise, the food was excellent. The lobster bisque and octopus starters were delicious. But the entrees were fantastic. My husband's paella was cooked perfectly, with the rice tender and flavorful, and my duck confit equally delightful. Since the portions were so large, we could only eat half and took the rest home for another meal. Creme Brulee and Crepe Suzette desserts completed the wonderful meal. We also enjoyed the view of the Galleria area from 3 stories up. Service was attentive, except towards the end when we tried to get our check, but it was a minor inconvenience."

  • "Four of us ate here for my Birthday. Got table by the window, had good service & enjoyed the food. 2 of the water glasses were chipped at the top edge & i'm glad we didn't cut our lips. Shocked at a restaurant of this calaber. It was restaurant week & one of us ordered the special which included appetizer, entre & dessert. The rest of us ordered dinner with no dessert. When it came time for dessert they brought the dessert for the person who ordered the special. It had Happy Birthday written in chocolate & said we could all share this tiny pc of cake between all 4 of us. I couldn't believe they didn't bring me my own Birthday dessert. I thought this was very cheap on the restauarts part & will not go back again because of this!"

  • "This restaurant was overall okay, but I would not suggest going for their restaurant week menu. The price was $45/person which actually seemed more expensive than it would have been if I had just bought each of my food items separately from the menu. They brought us stale bread at the beginning and we sent it back, so they then brought us not as tasty potato chips. We really just wanted fresher of the same bread. My mother ordered the lobster bisque and the French bouillabaisse and was not told that both had the same broth. So she basically had two of the same dish in a row with just different seafood included. Our desserts were mediocre. We ordered wine, and it had not been brought out yet by the time our first course came."

  • "Booked a brunch reservation for 3 and was excited about the menu and to experience this Highland Village restaurant. The appetizer course was fun and quite good with the family style service. The entree course was where we hit the wall. Two of the three plates were served cold, they were egg entrees and cold eggs is just not acceptable at any level of service. They were sent back, while the 3rd entree was eaten as it was piping hot. It took 20 minutes to replace the plates and by then the 3rd diner had finished. No visit from the manager who was walking back and forth looking down on the dining floor, only a "things happen" comment from the waiter. Did an HRW menu make us less than worthy? I won't be back to find out."
