Not busy, so we had the benefit of very good service and attentiveness. There is a bar which is exposed to the restaurant, but it was not busy or noisy.
The food is much above pedestrian with a few nice twists. The appetizers were very generous - my eggplant involtini was nearly a meal in itself, and my wife's salad was likewise large. I had the Hanger steak which was much succulent than I had imagined, and the wife's duck seemed good. The wine list was not expansive, but reasonable. We took a chance on a bottle of"Spaceman Lee" Red and were pleasantly surprised.
You won't likely be calling all your relatives to discuss the food at Unum's, but you will go back again.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent as alwaysAs usual we were warmly greeted at the door and shown to our table. The owner heard me talking to the hostess and immediately gave me a seat at their kitchen counter that allows you to watch the food being prepared and serviced. I loved chatting with the chef and watching my food being prepared. The food was fantastic from the bread to the dinner, to the dessert. The servers were equally nice. But, we were with good friends that we hadn't seen in a while and it was wonderful to have a very leisurely dinner. We had a 7:00 reservation and didn't leave there until a bit after 10:00pm. Only small issue was we asked the waiter about two wines and which would he recommend. He suggested another which was wonderful but ended up being almost twice as much as the two we were contemplating. I think he should have mentioned the price difference and also made a recommendation regarding the price range we had inquired about. The atmosphere is very pretty & inviting. Service was good they were on top of things & did not wait for anything. The food came out promptly. The appetizers are delicious but pricey for what you get. We ordered the scallops & bacon & the lamb shank thinking we could split each app amongst 4 of us well there were only 2 large scallops & 1 lamb shank so we each got 1/2 a scallop & 2 bite pieces of lamb. At $15 an appetizer I was disappointed with that. The filet mignon dinner & the lamb dinner was delicious.
