Unum RestaurantMac and CheeseI'm writing this review solely to recommend the mushroom mac and cheese. No it's certainly not healthy but it's to die for. Next time I would probably get it for my meal (it's a side but big enough for a meal) because it was so amazing. Very cheesy and delicious.
Great experience overall at Unum. Not severely overpriced and just a good classic restaurant (Georgetown certainly could use a few more). Not the most incredible food in DC but I enjoyed it. Also got the burrata arugula salad and the gnocchi, both of which were great.6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMToo loud but great foodFood is delicious (chicken liver mousse is great), service is pretty good too, but the acoustics are not so good. You have to shout at your dining partner to be audible. Other than that, great experience.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMWork DinnerMy colleague and I were able to discuss an upcoming project without being too distracted.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was a real treasure toThis was a real treasure to find. We will return again and again.6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMI wish I lived closerThis is the kind of restaurant that makes me want to move! We were the first diners, and chose an alcove, which made for a private dining kind of experience. The staff was extremely friendly, welcoming and professional, and our server was all of those and thoroughly knowledgable in the wine list and menu. Her recommendations were perfect! Of course this would not have been possible had the food not been exceptional. We can't wait until our next trip to D.C. to go back!6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst time visit to GeorgetownWe were in DC for business and decided to take part in the Georgetown scene. We were visiting from LA and our first time in Georgetown. Nice town, nice restaurant. It was a nice respite to get out of the heat and humidity outside. The food was excellent. The service was cordial, but not quite what I'd call inviting or welcoming. We found the restaurant service in DC to be that way. We chalked it up to being an East Coast thing. Nevertheless, we had a great time at Unum.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat meal - great time!I've been here several times and always have a fantastic meal. I brought two friends who had never been here and they just loved it. The service is great and the food is excellent.5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat choice! We picked Unum from online reviews for restaurants in the area we wanted to visit, we had never been there before. We were immediately shown to our table, from our reservation, and our waiter was prompt and attentive throughout our visit. He also described a few menu items we were not familiar with, and helped our daughter select a white wine. In all, we had a great time, and really enjoyed the half-size entrees, which allowed us to select and share more things than we would have been able to otherwise.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMMom's dinnerSmall but stylish with excellent food and service.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMA GemIn a comfortable and intimate space you will find that each dish is better than the last. The best beet salad in the world, and don't miss the strawberry rhubarb tart!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMA delicious FeastWe met friends who came in from NYC to eat with us at UNUM and it far surpassed any expectations of a good dinner.
We were seated immediately, and without a moments delay we were taken care of and it didn't end until we said good night.
Food was presented beautifully with a taste to match. Lots of small pleasure noises could be heard from our table. I can hardly wait to return!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful menu choicesThe entrees are excellent, but if you just want to spend a relaxing evening with friends you can work you way through a wide array of delicious appetizers and starters.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat little place in GeorgetownThis was the fourth time I've been to Unum in a little over a year and I was not disappointed. The food is excellent, nicely done without being overly complicated (as is too often the case in places that strive for sophistication). The beet salad, in particular, was outstanding. I appreciate that they offer half portions, so we could put together a several course meal without eating (or paying) too much. The atmosphere is pleasant and intimate, without excessive noise. This time we met the very personable owners. We will look forward to going back again.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Neighborhood SpotGreat dining minus unnecessary fuss. Food was delicious. Service was terrific. Perfectly quaint.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMFrom chef's kitchen with loveThere is rational explanation to the mystery of basil gnocchi, braised spiced lamb shank, duck confit or Japanese eggplant indescribable tastes: LOVE! Love makes Phillip Blane to pay attention to detail. And attention to detail is what make chef's creations to go from good to great without any secret ingredients or super special skills.
Out of many, it is only one, Unum. For now. Time would multiply Unum into Duo, Tres, Quattuor, Quinque...for the Joy of those, who
accepted love that was given to them.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMExceptionalLoved the basilica cocktail, beet salad, spinach with dates, Mac n cheese, short rib pasta, and beignets with cherries. I think that's half the menu, and that's just from my first visit. Can't wait to return!4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat bar and interestinggreat bar and interesting menu. the flavors were incredible. wholly recommend sharing plates with your company.4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMIt has wonderful and inventiveIt has wonderful and inventive food with great service. Some of the seats are a little cramped, but makes for intimate conversations. Great to have in the neighborhood.4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful food, creative andWonderful food, creative and deliciously prepared, true of all courses but especially the fish. Very noisy even though we were in a nice small area slightly separated from main area. Server waited on us with a snippy manner that she at least tried to disguise with a (false) smile. Who knows, maybe she was having a bad day. We asked very little of her.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMA very gracious hostess (andA very gracious hostess (and co-owner) tried to oblige our request for a quiet table but because of large parties of quite boisterous diners (including one with young children), and because the restaurant decor is mostly hard-surfaces, the din was distracting. Nonetheless the sophisticated menu and (with one exception) delicious food left us overall pleased.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMRun by a husband and wifeRun by a husband and wife team that infuse the place with professionalism, quality service, outstanding food and great atmosphere. Really a great place with a relaxing environment focusing upon service and food. Having been there several times, we have never had any disappointments.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMThe only thing I would recommendThe only thing I would recommend is more options for vegetarians. The food is wonderful, though and the ambiance of the restaurant is one of the best in Georgetown.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMMy favorite spot in DC. ExcellentMy favorite spot in DC. Excellent food! Great small plates to share, which is fun for a date night. And not crazy expensive.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMWe enjoyed the dim, intimate,We enjoyed the dim, intimate, small and cozy feel of this place after walking all day in DC. It has a good wine/beer list and drink selection. The menu selection is small, but just enough variety and choices to suit all tastes. Our 14 year old found a burger and fries he enjoyed, while I ordered and loved the branzino. Our food was perfectly seasoned, and we could taste that the dishes were made with the finest ingredients. The chef chose a creative and interesting blend of toppings and sides to his main dishes. The place filled up quickly, so I was happy to have booked in advance. A great choice for food and ambiance!4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMyelp, you hit it on the headyelp, you hit it on the head once again. the yelp review was spot on. it was romantic, delicious and the service was great. if you are looking for a cozy place, and a delicious meal you found the right place. make sure to try the truffle mac and cheese, it was our favorite!4/1/2013 12:00:00 AMMy first time at Unum andMy first time at Unum and I loved it. Food was great -- we split the gnocchi, which was the lightest I've ever had, and the steak. Each plate had great vegetables, with interesting, bright flavors. Service was friendly and welcoming. Will definitely be back.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Restaurant in GTownUnum is our FAVORITE neighborhood restaurant in Georgetown. The food is consistently amazing-- high quality ingredients, impressive cooking techniques, and totally fit for the Washington D.C. foodies out there. The ambience in Unum is almost like being in Northern California, great feeling. It is a small restaurant which adds a lot of character, but I would recommend reservations.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMA great experience . . . IA great experience . . . I took two out-of-town clients for dinner after a horrific day for them. The quality of Unum's menu combined with the charm and attentiveness of Unum's team transformed the mood considerably. I highly recommend this restaurant. I'm sorry I had not been sooner.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMOur first time there and itOur first time there and it was such a treat. The food was excellent and the service was prompt but not overbearing. We'll definitely make it one of our local stops.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was great. A flavorfulThe food was great. A flavorful cilantro chimichurri sauce accompanied the bread basket. An especially nice feature is the availability of half-portions for many of the entrees, including the gnocchi. Great for sharing, or for those diners who just want less food. It was also possible to order a half-glass of wine.3/9/2013 12:00:00 AMA georgetown gemThis is a small restaurant, but nicely decorated. The hostess was gracious enough to honor our reservation at the bar (it looked inviting and we didn't mind taking our time with dinnner there). The bartender Dmitry took over and made us the best cocktails. My husband loves mojitos (even though a summer drink and not readily available everywhere),Dmitry made it happen for us. My husband said it was one of the best mojitos he has ever had. We ordered the lamb shank, melts in your mouth. Wasn't a fan of the spicy eggplants (not spicy at all and kind of mushy), but the shortrib pasta was very good. We will definitely return.12/15/2012 12:00:00 AMvery lovely and intimate restaurantvery lovely and intimate restaurant. incredible food. very talented chef11/18/2012 12:00:00 AM
