I was disappointed when Mendocino Grill closed a few months back, but happy to find in Unum a worthy successor. Decent kitchen, moderate prices, good service. Seems pretty much like Mendocino with a change in wine list, now featuring fewer California and more international.

I had looked forward to dining at Unum based on the reviews. Our entire meal, however, was very disappointing. First, the menu is very limited and at first reading, I saw absolutely nothing I wanted to order. We settled on the cod and chorizo hush puppies for an appetizer and they turned out to be tasteless. My entree, the beef tenderloin, was so strongly seasoned with either cumin or thyme that I couldn't taste the meat. Other entrees were likewise mediocre. NO desire to return.

All the reviews of Unum did not do it justice. The food was better than all expectations. Most reviews suggest the Oysters 3 ways small plate, but I would tell you that it lacked a lot of flavor in the fried and the poached..the raw was delicious. We also got a small plate of the Quail - do not skip that! For dinner we each got a large plate - The Gnocchi and the Short Rib Pasta. The Gnocchi was in a Truffle Butter sauce, and they were cooked to perfection (melted in your mouth). The short rib meat was perfectly seasoned and paired well with what looked like an egg noodle, with almost a stroganoff sauce. Both were devoured without abandon. For desert we had the beignets and ice cream. Both off the chart. Goat cheese sorbet? Awesome

Took my BF for his birthday. We had a great time! Had the cheese plate which was really good and he had the Indian spiced lamb which was good! I had the quail which was delish and the side of eggplant which was good but nothing notable. The chocolate/rasberry martini is really good and was our favorite. Ambiance was great--Our server was really slow though. I had to try to get his attention multiple times which is sad since the place is pretty small. He walked by our table many times before I could get his attention to ask for another drink. He also knew we were celebrating a birthday but never offered birthday dessert. It's not required, but as a new restaurant it would have made a lasting impression if he had.

Hate the name; it is not a welcoming name. Unum was much noisier than we expected it to be but they graciously moved us to a quieter table. Food good, portions a little skimpy.

Intimate setting, delicious food and excellent wines. Throw in friendly and attentive service and this place is a winner. I've already been back several times. Recommend the oysters three-ways and the gnocchi.

The food at this place was fantastic. Truly flavorful and unique without being over the top. Also, very good wine choices and a nice urban environment. Service, while friendly, needs to be picked up a notch. Needs to be more attentive - i.e. water refills, check ins after food arrives, etc... - the little things that one would expect from a nice restaurant. However, this place is certainly worth a visit.

Cozy ambience, engaging and attentive staff, diverse menu with each dish worthwhile. We will definitely go again -- a little noisy but that would not inhibit us from recommending it to friends. You'll need a reservation.
