Union Square CafeAwesome LunchThe tuna burger was excellent. The service was great and I will definitely return.6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMStronger than everUnion Square has an incredible past, but they keep getting stronger and reinventing themselves, creating an interesting future. Bravo.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything we had was wonderful.Everything we had was wonderful. USC delivers great quality every time.6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMReliable mealsAlways enjoy having dinner at USC. It can be noisy and the table we had was on a tilted floor. They really should level the floor. I found this annoying.6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMUnion Square Cafe sets theUnion Square Cafe sets the bar high for great restaurants. The food is unfailingly delicious ` the waitstaff don't know the word "no"- can do anything your heart desires. I've never had a bad meal or bad experience at Union Sq Cafe~6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMWaiter especially importantThe food was outstanding. And, it's easy to order too much. Our waiter was careful to make sure we knew exactly what we were ordering so we truly enjoyed everything without over doing it. never had a waiter play such an important role ( and most were always helpful) but this time it actually improved our dinning experience. Also, food delivered immediately, with no signs it sat in thie kitchen.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect! It never disappoints! We've been going here for special treats! A staff that is there to help you enjoy your meal and not be in your way. They are attentive and informed about the food and wine. Tables are spread apart so you feel relaxed and engaged with your table and not distracted by other table talk. And THE FOOD is just excellent- fresh, inventive and delicious!6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMGood Food, Great ServiceMy girlfriend and I were in NYC on vacation. We went here for dinner. Our server was the best part. She was so friendly and helpful! Unlike a lot of other servers we had while in NYC that were snooty.
The steak I ordered was tough when I told our server she was very nice about it. My girlfriend got the halibut which was awesome. I switched to lamb, which was also amazing. We ordered the goat cheese cheesecake and our server gave us complimentary muscato to go with the cheesecake. I am not really big on dessert or dessert wine, but both were phenomenal. Overall a great experience.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMAnniversary ReviewMy wife and I had the pleasure of getting engaged here @ USC in 1998..we made it a tradition to return every year for our Anniversary. Much has changed in our lives since then - children, life, etc.; but returning here reminds us of each other. The staff is the best, the food is incredible, and the service impeccable. We hope to be able to return for many years to come !6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMUnion Square Cafe, after allUnion Square Cafe, after all these years, continues to excel. And it does so in a warm, unpretentious but elegant atmosphere. Food was superb, creative and based on fresh and often innovative combinations of wild and local ingredients.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat NYC restaurantWe had a lovely meal at the Union Square Cafe--and I heartily recommend it for both in-town and out-of-towners--great food, great service and reasonably priced for New York.6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently goodOur second dinner there in the last 30 days. This time we had a table on the main floor. Every table was taken while we were there, but it wasn't noisy, nothing was rushed. Good service throughout the night. Food was fabulous - excellently prepared and artfully presented.6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMNot the best for nothingthis is NY dining at its best, and worth the extra planning to get a table.
if you come to NYC don't miss eating HERE!!!!!6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGreatFood No Attitiudeupscale food, local, innovative. Well priced... espec starters and side dishes. Sometimes we dont do two entrees for two as a result. YEs small by todays big leaders. This is 'California/PAcific Coast styled' dining in terms of relaxed attitude with no compromise in service and certainly American nouveau cuisine, always renewed and made different. Has been our standby and go-to place for decades. And enduring all the changes, still surviving, always full, says it all6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMIt's that time again...!!!We've been enjoying this restaurant for approx. 25 years....!!! Do you think we like it...?!?!? Darn right!!! You will too...!!! Need I say more....!?!?6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat JointTerrific food and service in a romantic setting. Portions are good, if not bountiful. Vermont Lamb was tasty and cooked to perfection. Desserts were amazing and service was prompt, friendly and helpful.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMUnion Square CafeThis remains one of the premier restaurants in New York City. It is comfort cooking taken to a perfect level. There is nothing here that will disappoint.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat service. scrumptiousgreat service. scrumptious food. Our dinner spot when we are in NYC.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMideal spot for business lunchThe cafe features a nice menu and attentive, but unobtrusive service. I have had two business lunches at the Union Square Cafe in recent weeks and recommend it highly for quiet, focused conversation and a relaxed, yet professional atmosphere.5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat placeI visit every time I am in NYC. The food and service were great each and every time.5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways ConsistentWe travel to NYC at least once a year and Union Square is always on our list. The staff is friendly, the wine list is very good and the food is always consistent, interesting and tasty. The Vermont lamb this trip was the best!5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMFood great. Waiter had a bitFood great. Waiter had a bit of an attitude about our wine selection but overall good service. great place to take an out of town client.5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMNeighborhood favoriteJust go. No reservation, no problem, Sit at the bar with it's full menu. It's just a solid, solid, dining experience.5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMMarcus was awesome!!!Just so happened to meander down this street in the rain on a late Tuesday afternoon and after viewing the menu, decided to make a reservation for dinner.
What an great idea!!!!! The hostess was quite gracious and even had a celebrity citing there, how cool!!!
Cant say enough about our server MARCUS!!!!!! He has really reafirmed my faith in the TRUE DINING EXPERIENCE!!!!!
He was friendly, witty, knowable and attentive. Not to mention that our menu selection of halibut and sweet pea ravaoli was excellent. Even down to the cocktails of mint julip, a very fragrant tea and delicious coffee with biscottis was a rewarding treat to our meal.5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMA-One All the way round! Our reservation was honored on time and we asked to be seated in a specific place, we were...
My young guest was a hotel restaurant grad and he and our server, Marcus got to share some
shop talk. Marcus brought out a dessert on the house with congratulations and my young friends name written out in chocolate.
What a lovely and generous thing to do.
Food was fantastic! the wine, champagne and Sauternes was top notch and our server knew just the right ones to suggest for us. He was very well versed in the wines as well as the menu selections.
For more then 10 years now,I'm never disappointed and Union Sq Cafe has been and remains one of my all time favorite dining spots.
Bravo and Thank you Marcus.5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMNever anything leas than perfectI visit NYC 2-3 times annually, and I always spend my last evening dining here. The most consistently wonderful eatery in The City, bar none.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is the complete package:This is the complete package: Food, Service, and Ambience. We arrived a bit early and had a drink at the bar. Our bar tender was quite busy as he efficiently prepared drinks And still he found time to talk with us, give us suggestions and highlights from the drink list, and just generally make us feel welcome and comfortable.
When our table was ready, they transferred us and our drinks to the table seamlessly. We had a Krug breathing that arrived timely at the table to go with appetizers. The entrees and side dishes where well prepare, expertly presented and properly served.
We will make Union Square Café a required stop when we return to New York to visit our adult children.
Note: The Krug split is a spectacular buy.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMCan't stop thinking about this mealWe were in NYC only one night and we couldn't have chosen a better place. Staff extremely friendly, our server was completely knowledgable about the menu and gave spot on recommendations plus the ambience was so tasteful.
Now lets talk food! My husband had the House-Cured Coppa Bruschetta and I had a half order of the Garganelli. Both were to die for but I can't stop thinking about the Ramp Pesto on my pasta!!! Next we had Veal chop and Grilled Lamb. Exceptional entrees especially the veal...I've never had such a tender chop EVER!!!
I know Manhattan is riddled with amazing restaurants but if you find yourself wanting to try something that is the over all experience....it's a must!5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMWorth the moneyExcellent food and good quality wines available by the glass. Not the cheapest, but worth it.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMV nice lunchWe had a very good lunch here before flying back to uk. Our starters were asparagus soup and fritto misto - both excellent. Then my partner had soft shell crab which he said was good; I had chicken Milanese which was actually a bit ordinary, although the salad was great. We had cocktails and wine. We the white wine we had chosen was not cold enough straight away, we were given a half glass each of the house white whilst we waited which was a good touch.
Service was cheerful, friendly and efficient.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous Birthday Dinner!Went to Union Square Cafe on the advice of a relative who used to work there. What a find! The food, service and ambience were all top-notch. I had the lamb, which was tender and full of flavor. I honestly don't remember what anyone else had, because all we could talk about afterward was the DESSERTS!! I am picky about dessert -- usually skip it because it's so often only so-so, even in the best restaurants. Take my advice -- save room! The chocolate hazelnut brioche with sour cream ice cream was one of the most amazing things I've ever tasted -- and my daughter and two sisters agreed. Truly a special evening.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had lunch at Union SquareWe had lunch at Union Square Cafe last Saturday just upon arriving in the city after a very wet drive from Boston. It was a welcome respite from a cold and gloomy day. The hostess was very accommodating and able to seat us early. Our waitress was excellent and gave wonderful suggestions. Everything we tried was absolutely delicious. A great way to start our visit to NYC.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat in all areasNo weak area, great food, food, service, low noise level and decor.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMPretty good but not outstandingWe sat upstairs which is nice and intimate. There was only one waiter and she was slow getting to us with menus etc but was very friendly. The scallops had hot chilly all over them without any mention of it on the menu and I sent them back. They were fins about that. The mains were very tasty and the desserts good but not great (they gave us a free dessert to make up for the appetiser).
Nice night but not somewhere I would rush back to considering the cost of the meal.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMStill the OneYear after year, USC continues to deliver. Our most recent trip was outstanding. Fun, attentive and insightful service. Great food and terrific desserts. The soft-shelled crabs were a great spring treat as were the various lamb dishes like the stew and soup. Kudos all around.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMLOVED EVERY MINUTE!Outstanding meal! Absolutely one of the best ever. Attentive, engaging wait staff helped provide a perfect evening. I had let them know in advance that it was a special occasion and they pulled off a beautiful dessert presentation without any reminders or signals from me. A wonderful evening that exceeded my expectations. Thank you!5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMVery nice, a little tiredWe've been going to USC for many years. Over the last year or two, it has slipped. Still a great place, just not quite as special.5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMMiss the signature Black Bean SoupGreat brunch, good service though they seemed
Understaffed. It took a long time to get a drink and
Bread basket. Food was great though!5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMUSC Returns to my personal #1Two visits ago I wrote of a disappointing experience -- in both food and service. Now I am happy to report that USC is back in full form, with knowledgeable, helpful and charming waiters and with exceptional food preparation and presentation. The menu is much smaller than it was before and I have to admit that I miss some of my personal menu favorites: Seared thick Tuna and lamb chops Cosa Ditta, both of which are in the first USC cook book so I will have to make them myself (not at all the same).
So welcome back my top restaurant choice!5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Friday Lunch! We enjoyed everything about the Café, the service and the food were terrific. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, we felt we were in good hands. The crispy pig salad is to die for!5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMUSC is always wonderfulThe food here is always amazing. They shop at the Union Square Farmer's Market so the menu reflects what is in season. They have a speciality cocktail featured each week. Great wine choices by the glass and the bar is a great place to dine if you are alone.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways delicious - service offLove this place
Consistently good food but service was off
Dishes forgotten and descriptions of main courses
Inaccurate
Friendly and earnest staff though
Will still return for great food5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMwonderful food, wonderful serviceThe food here is amazing and the service is equally as good. This place never disappoints!!!!5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMTook a friend for her 75thTook a friend for her 75th birthday for lunch. Asked for a quiet table in the back which we were given. Everything about the lunch was perfect. Civilized, generous, delicious and attractive visually.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of my favorite placesI have been a patron of Union Sq Cafe for years (20+)
It has been wonderful in it's ambience, service and DELICIOUS food.
Union Sq Cafe has been my go to place for a special occasion in a low key setting.
There is the seriousness of amazing preparation, freshness, and service, but the lack of pretense is such a gift (to me), it makes the food taste even better.
A dining experience that is all about relaxed pleasure. It's not about hip or casual, it's about a lovely experience, feeling cosseted and extremely well fed. I have always been able to rely on Union Sq Cafe for a wonderful time.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently SatisfyingI have been going to Union Square Cafe since it opened in the 80's. It has always been a comfortable "go to" place for fine food and relaxation. The service has been gracious, but friendly, since it opened. The food has always been interesting, innovative and delicious. Wish I lived next door!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMHasn't lost a stepI haven't been ti Union Square Cafe in many years, owing largely to the fact that I moved uptown.
I5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMI took my friend here forI took my friend here for his birthday because he's wanted to go for a long time. It's hard to get a reservation here especially for a Saturday eveving and now I understand why; the food is outstanding. They offer a very creative menu that changes daily. The wait staff was extremely attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. The portion sizes are just right and the cocktails were very well made. The decor was comfortable, relaxing and tasteful; not overwrought. This is one of my new favorite restaurants. Saturday evening reservations should be made 1 1/2 weeks in advance.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMEvolving SceneUnion Square Cafe seemed not so packed with Birthday and Anniversary celebration, but rather people out to enjoy a casual evening of terrific food. The atmosphere is casual and friendly from the start, but the wait staff's efforts are crisp and professional. The food is simple and appropriately priced. This is not a gastronomic temple, but overall is still one of the best bets one could have for an evening out in New York.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMThis place was fantastic. This place was fantastic. Great cocktails, wine, fabulous food. The service was OK, but it didnt hamper the experience in any way. We had a great meal and will definitely come back.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AM
