I was disappointed with this visit to Union, I am sad to say. When one of my guests arrived at 5:00, the staff was assembling IKEA tables in the dining room. When I arrived, all but a bit of the construction noise had subsided. Our bread for the cheese plate was charred as was my flattened pork chop. My guests both said their meals were fine. All that being said, our waiter was great...attentive, friendly, and professional.

What a great concept but it is not executed well. Maybe I would feel different in the summer or on a sunny winter day instead of a winter evening? No matter when though the food is way overpriced for what you get. And neither of us particularly enjoyed our food. The happy hour drink deals were the only thing positive about our experience.

Best restaurant brussel sprouts I've ever had! I dined with a friend on a Saturday night and it was clear that there were a lot of groups there. With that comes noisy crowd. However, dinner for two was still cozy. The service was fantastic from initial arrival to departure, and the food was fantastic. Our server was so friendly, knowledgeable on the food and wine and had perfect timing for checking in with us.

The Union was very loud it felt like we were in a cafeteria. The food was expensive and very bland. The portions were small and not very good. I was very disappointed in the flavor of the oysters and the cut off meat for the filet mignon was very mediocre. All in all I was very disappointed in this restaurant.

We had dinner here before going to a concert at orchestra hall and I was very impressed. It's a nice venue with great food! The service was timely and very friendly. The only things that detracted from the meal was the noise level and how little open floor space there was. Lots of people squeezing through right gaps between tables made it difficult to get to and from our spot, but other than that the experience was great. Highly recommended!

Visited Minneapolis to see a comedian at Pentages theater and had dinner at the Union Rooftop. It was recommended by a local. First of all the reservation system was so easy to use! Secondly, it is in an excellent location in the heart of the nightlife, theaters, etc downtown. The wine selection was expensive with a few by-the-glass options. A nice Washington state Chardonnay was worth the $9 glass. We started with the fish tacos. They were good, with a nice spicy sauce, but very messy. I've had better. I chose the seared steak salad. Nice, ice cold plate with perfectly seared and flavorful, though tough steak. My husband had a pasta dish and loved it! The flour less chocolate cake was incredible!

Found the food to be far less than spectacular exspecially for the price - the duck was completely overpowered, rather than enhanced, by the sauce, the filet minion was tender but with little flavor, calimari did have a unique sauce and the wild rice soup was fine, the best item was the desert chocalate bundini. Not impressed.

We made reservations and specifically asked for a window seat. When we got there they had us sit in the middle where everyone was sitting so close you were elbow to elbow with them. I counted all the window tables open and there was 9 of them, only 3 of them had been sat in. The hoastess was not very pleasant and didn't smile or say anything when she walked us to the table. The waiter was very kind, although we did hear him complain when the people who got sat next to us (asked for a new spot because they also noticed many open window spots and didn't feel comfortable sitting right next to others). The food was good which is probably all that matters, just not a fun date place.

Great service, food delicious and well-presented. Only problem was that as the evening progressed, the noise level kept us from hearing the server's suggestions and each other. I know "energetic noise" creates ambiance, but for sixty-year-olds, it becomes a nuisance.

The Union rooftop was a great experence for my girlfriend and I. The service is phenomenal, the servers were very friendly and accommodating while managers talked with most of the customers. I had ordered a medium rare steak salad and my girlfriend had ordered butternut ravioli. Both these entrees were plated beautifully and was very presentable. These dishes were simply but packed with many layers and elements of flavor. The only downside of this restaurant is that it is packed pretty tight and is very loud and difficult to hear. (Packed pretty tight, I mean there will be people about 2 feet to the right and left of you. I can personally recommend both those dishes and the restaurant itself.

Our visit to the Union Rooftop was as expected. We enjoyed a great view and the fun atmosphere, but the food was sub par, especially given the price point ($19 for a basic pasta dish). The fish tacos were ok - filling was decent, but the corn tortilla shell was not - fried and a bit chewy.

We have been here during the summer and really enjoyed dining here. This was our first time here with the rooftop covered. It was beyond loud. Also they crammed the tables in there. It is slightly insane how many tables are in there. I would love to see them get rid of about 10 tables. You should not have to wait to walk past a table because someone else is walking through. That being said our food was absolutely wonderful and the drinks were great! They have a great happy hour. We were heading to a concert at the target center and this is a great place to go pre-concert.

A really great place to go for a nice dinner and atmosphere with friends before 10:00. Dinner was delicious and the server was very personable. However once 9:30/10:00 hit, it turned into a club atmosphere with the early-twenties wanna-hookups coming in. If you're interested in that type of bar scene feel free to hang out. Otherwise dinner between 7:30-9:30 is prime time on the weekends.

Food and service at The Union was wonderful. Carpaccio had a different combo of accompaniments we had not had before, but was really excellent. Pork chop with mashed potatoes--excellent. Lobster linguini was so tasty! The only downfall was when checking in. Our reservation was made two weeks in advance. We requested a table by the window. We were seated 20 minutes late (not a huge deal) and were in the middle of the dining room. Still a great meal, big city ambience.

We got a gift certificate to eat at Union Rooftop and were excited because we have heard that the views were nice. The views did not disappoint. The staff were friendly but our waitress wasn't the best. She wasn't bad but she could have been friendlier. The noise level was ok. We could hear each other if we were leaning in and paying attention to what the other was saying. The food was ok - definitely nothing special. I don't see us going back anytime soon - especially for the prices with only mediocre food.

Service was good- let us take our time with appetizers, drinks and light supper. Happy hour appetizer specials. We had the fried calamari which was awesome. Then we split the entree special which was a delicious, light seafood linguini. As it got busier, it got a bit louder, though it wasn't so loud as to hinder our conversation. We would definitely eat here again.

OK, so I rated Union Rooftop 5 stars in every sub-category, yet only give it 4 overall. What gives? Well, it's simply a matter of having a limited menu. If there was a wider variety of selections, especially in the entrée category, I would have given it five. We had a great time there, and the service was the star of the evening - absolutely spectacular.

My mom and I went before a show at the Orpheum. Our waiter asked if we had some place we had to be so we let him know and he made sure that we had enough time to get there! The savory donut holes - nothing to write home about. Mahi tacos were good. The lamb shank was out of this world! Very tender and full of flavor. Our dessert was ok, not what we had expected. Good wine selection and seasonal beers. Loved the enclosed roof top patio, it was loud but I expect that with a glass roof. I might have to bring the hubby for a date night sometime.

My friend and I went there for Sunday brunch. Unfortunately they had a DJ playing such loud music we could barely hold a conversation. While blown away by the ambience and great service...the food...oh the food...was overwhelmingly average to just not good. The lobster linguini lacked any sauce whatsoever and had no seasoning. The flank steak, ordered MR was a tough medium and ovey charred. Enjoyed, however, delicious butternut squash ravioli. The fact that I can't even remember the apps indicates how lackluster they were. I would return for the ambience and a cocktail but I'll be eating at Coup d Etat!

Food quality is close to McDonald's level at 3x the price. The tenderloin sandwich is compressed flavorless, tough flank steak masked with a pickled jalapeno to cover the flavor gaps. Fries were soggy. Lobster poorboy was OK; didn't have that fresh sweet taste from lobster. Service was very good. We explained to our waitress the food quality was poor and she apologized and wanted to bring a manager over to discuss with us, but we declined. Left her a nice tip and don't plan on coming back. Talked to a few other people after eating there. They said it is a good place for a drink, but not to eat. I would agree.

Great spot to dine with outstanding views especially of the sunset and the skyscrapers. Great urban feel. Food was very good with interesting menu. Lobster linguine was spectacular; oysters and halibut were very good as well. Good attentive service. When a restaurant has two great restaurants (this one roof top and the other one - forget its name - ground floor), it becomes hard not to compare. I would go to Union downstairs for the best seafood in Minneapolis (seriously fish that melts in the mouth and amazing tastes) and upstairs for ambiance+food+a sense of being at a "happening" place.
