Diner Reviews
  • "Reopening for the season on a strong note - it's as good as ever."

  • "Rack of lamb was tasty, but kind of fatty and a very meager portion (and I'm not a big eater) for the price."

  • "A word to describe our evening is PERFECT! We were at Union Park celebrating a birthday. The room was elegant and beautiful. Our server did a magnificent job of anticipating our needs and the food , especially my steak, was perfectly prepared and absolutely delicious! We could not have asked for a better dining experience."

  • "We go to Union Park once a year. Unfortunately that is the only opportunity we have. We look forward to going there. It is usually the highlight of our trip. Excellent food, service and ambiance."

  • "We were at Union Park for New Years Eve. The menu was fixed, but offered a nice choice for all 5 cources. The cost was resonable for the type of event, service was excellent, as was the atmosphere."

  • "Celebrated the New Year 2014. Great food. Friendly, efficient service. BYOB makes it a good value. I strongly object to having the tip included. Plus the charge was listed as service. How many dinners never see or understand this charge? I was a party of two. This practice should be clearly stated. Perhaps this practice was for New Year's only?"

  • "Union Park is always great and does not disappoint on New Years Eve. Excellent 5 course pre fixe with many of the regular menu staples."

  • "We had our Office X Mas Party there. We all came down from Westchester, Dutchess and Orange Counties NY and had a Blast. Shirely was an awesome waitress and would highly recomend Union Park, especially for a large group. Merry Christmas! Ken State Farm Insurance"

  • "My fiancé and I really enjoyed our dinner at Union Park. The food was excellent! Portion sizes are not huge and left us full but not stuffed. It is pricey but worth it for a special occasion or quiet romantic dinner."

  • "Consistently great food and service in an environment that can be very intimate or support a larger party."

  • "In Cape May for Thanksgiving, we opted to dine at Peter Shields on the Wednesday night, when we knew the staff and the kitchen would be less stressed. Food was superb. Salmon perfectly cooked, medium rare with a blackened crust on top. I would normally never order chicken breast, but here it was moist & flavorful. We ordered from the $40 prix fixe menu and BYOB, so it was practically a bargain gourmet dinner. My one complaint is that we were seated by the window on the enclosed porch, while winds outside raged at 50 miles an hour, and we were uncomfortably chilly throughout the meal. I understand their wanting to seat diners in both spaces, but it was the wrong decision on this night. The porch is not for winter dining."

  • "The food is great. Like what they have on the menu."
    Dined on 11/16/2013
  • "We can always count on a fine meal at Union Park. A new dish - wild boar and suckling pig - was different and delicious. Except for one lapse in service, everything was elegant. We shall return!"

  • "Enjoyed Union Park very much. Went frequently in the distant past until the management change- after that, the menu changed for the worst. Recently the menu was revamped, and for the better, so we tried it again & were impressed. Service was just fair, but the food was great. The ambience was typically wonderful, and all those around us appeared to be having a great time as well. Will definitely be returning for more."

  • "Dinner was excellent and our waitress terrific. We have definitely decided to add this to our list of favorites in Cape May."

  • "Portions were small for the price. Two of us had the Boar and Piglet entree and found it to be extremely fatty and not very tasty. Three member of the group had the Lobster Risotto and it was very pasty. The other member of the group had the Flank Steak which was tough and chewy. The soup, appetizers and desserts were all very good including the Caesar Salad which had an additional $4 charge if you wanted anchovies. Considering that the salad was $10, you would have expected them to be included. They were not ordered."

  • "we found great food. A first course, three "tartares," one the conventional steak was better than average, the other two, gravlax and tuna, were just wonderful. A second course, again variations on a theme, this time duck breast and duck hash, were fantastic. Interesting, yummy desserts. Considering that the restaurant makes no money on booze (no license) the prices were moderate. Quiet, considerate service goes with the great chef."

  • "Conveniently located in an attractive Cape May hotel right at the beach. The food was good with a personal touch and imagination - not standard American fair (fish breaded, fired and creamy). A little more attention to detail and a bit less weight and the meals could make for an excellent treat. No wine (NJ wines don't count unless you're looking for a rough Zinfandel not matter what you order. Sorry, but NJ just hasn't arrived into the world of wine). Overall, we were happy."

  • "My wife and I came to Cape May to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We had eaten at Union Park in 2012 and wanted to go there again. We were not disappointed. The food was great and the service was just as good. My wife had the filet mignon and I had the salmon. Both were cooked perfectly and tasted delicious. I would definitely recommend making Union Park a dining stop on your next trip to Cape May. My only complaint is that they don't bring enough bread to the table. A few more pieces would be great!"

  • "With only one visit under our belts to this restaurant it is hard to give a complete review but I can speak to a few things. The decor is fitting with a grand old Victorian in Cape May without being over the top. The service was outstanding all throughout the meal. The food was great, nice size portions cooked to perfection. The ala cart menu was different with some things you might not expect. Coffee was good and dessert ok. A nice night and worth another visit!"

  • "Very good overall experience. A bit expensive, understandable for a BYOB."
    Dined on 10/12/2013
  • "We haven't been to Union Park in years, and decided to give it a go. Wow! We were certainly glad we did! We know all the restaurants in Cape May because we have a summer place, which we visit year round. Because of our experience at Union Park we have added it to the top of our list for repeat dining. Everything about the meal was excellent."

  • "We had a wonderful meal at Union Park. While it is a BYO, they do have some local wines available. The servers were very attentive and friendly. The food was delicious, we both loved our dinners. My husband had soup and the salmon dinner, he loved them both. I had the duck duet, it was wonderful. We passed on dessert but there were many good choices. We will definitely return any time we are in Cape May."

  • "Extraordinary food! Perfect service! Beautiful room! What more could we ask for?"

  • "We spent five nights in Cape May last week. Union Park was by far our favorite restaurant. We reserved a table outside for two on the porch. It was a beautiful night and you could hear the ocean in the background. The staff was attentive and informative and also gave their personal suggestions. We started with the oysters and the house salad. The house salad was not one of the typical house salads. It was great! For entree I ordered the salmon which was served on top of a goat cheese pancake. Was one of the best meals I had on this trip. My boyfriend got the filet mignon and said was one of the best he ever had. We will make sure to visit this restaurant again."

  • "We have been coming to Cape May for years and always go to Union Park at least once. It is a truly fine dining experience."

  • "We have dined at Union Park several times and everything is usually great. This visit however, lacked some of the luster of previous visits. I had book reservations a few months in advance and upon arrival, the main dining room was relatively empty. However, we were seated in the already full back room, which was full of young children running around while their parents ate. We requested to be re-seated, which we promptly were, to a nice table in the main room. Our waitress' mind seemed to be elsewhere though, as I never felt fully engaged like I had at other restaurants in Cape May. The food on the other hand was delicious, from the oysters to the lamb entree. Everything was fresh and cooked perfectly, which is why I'd still recommend UP."

  • "Service and food were excellent. Decor is quite dated. No bar and a small wine list. BYOB is Ok. All of the food was excellent especially the hanger steak and the French fries cooked in duck fat."
    Dined on 8/7/2013
  • "Union Park is large enough to get lost in, so there is no need to worry about getting seated next to families with young children. The menu is quite varied I have never had an issue with the food quality. Service was spot on. Highly recommend"

  • "We have been going to Union Park for years and always enjoyed it. The menu includes many tempting dishes, but it hasn't changed in years, although there are always a few specials. Union Park is a good choice for a special evening."

  • "One of the more expensive dining options in town, but also consistently one of the best for fine dining."
