Union Oyster HouseUnion Oyster House--history & fishThe main draws of the Union Oyster House are the wonderful, old, historic restaurant itself and the fresh and tender fish. We had swordfish and salmon, and this was the highlight of our dinner. The vegetables were fine, but not creative, and the clam chowder was good (but not outstanding) and was not completely hot when it arrived. The staff was very competent, but our server seemed tired. Nonetheless, the atmosphere at this historic restaurant is bustling and fun, and the decor adds to the whole Revolutionary War spirit. My mother took me to this restaurant 30 years ago, and I was glad that I also took my daughter here, even though the quality seemed to have slipped somewhat.6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful RestaurantLoved this restaurant. I went here with my family Tuesday night, and we all had good food. Loved the atmosphere. Our server was super nice, friendly and helpful with travel information.
We did not order wine, and we did not sit at the bar so I can't comment on that. But all our food was fabulous! :)6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMLoved dining in this historicLoved dining in this historic restaurant . The food was great, our waitress was attentive and very sweet. Talk about stepping back in history. Just loved being there.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMLove itWe drove over 7 hours in the pouring rain from Philly to Boston on Friday. I make Union Oyster House a regular stop every time I'm in Boston. Always great food and service. Was a great experience after being in the car for so long.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMgood food, cool historyWe went to the Union purely for the history of the place.
The food is good and the service is good.
We ordered the Shore dinner and the Lazy Man Lobster. Both were good.
Sorry to say, nothing was great and stood out as "must do or have". But a good restaurant.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Food! Great History! This place had awesome food! From the thick piece of cornbread to the clam chowder (don't pass up the chowder) to the fish, nothing dissappointed. In addition to that, the fact that you are eating in such a historically significant place makes it even better. Be prepared to spend some money though...but hey, how often do you eat at the oldest restaraunt in the country..6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMHistoric, great foodFresh seafood, friendly service. A review on TripAdvisor complaining of it being very dark was exaggerated. The waitress even suggested that I try a sample of the Indian pudding prior to making my dessert choice to make sure I liked it before committing to it. The food was so good I bought their cookbook before leaving. A trip to Boston should certainly include dinner here!6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMBest in BostonMy family came here for my dad's 65th birthday and it was the best choice we could have made. The food, service and ambiance was amazing. Definitely my favorite place to eat in Boston. Thanks so much!6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMTake a bite out of history....Good food, Great chowder. The experience is worth it. Read the stories about the building during dinner. Very cool experience. If you are a history person, ask to sit in the Kennedy booth.5/27/2013 12:00:00 AMAt the oyster barWe came in with six, but had reserved for four. Fortunately, six seats at the oyster bar opened up and we had a great time. We were looking for lighter fare, not full meals, so this was perfect.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMWe LOVED this place!!We were visiting Boston on honeymoon from the UK and found the Union Oyster House when googling places to eat in Boston and we are so pleased that we did!! We made reservations online before we left the UK and this turned out to be a really good idea as some people that just turned up were given a 1.5 hour wait time!! Now we know what the food is like though its definitely worth the wait! The atmosphere was great, our server was attentive and friendly and the food was some of the best food we've ever had! We would definitely recommend this place!!5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMIt was fun to eat in the oldestIt was fun to eat in the oldest restaurant in the US! Filled with history it is a must see and do while in Boston. The food is outstanding and wonderful service provided by the staff will make sure your time there is memorible.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMIf You really want great seafood! There are so many sea food restaurants in Boston, but this has got to be one of the best. We were there to celebrate our daughters
graduation from Lesley University. So were many others, festive, energetic, with great food. And all that history.......5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMBucket list choice! OrderedBucket list choice! Ordered the Shore special...disappointing...for the price but other diners had delicious entrees5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMLived up to the hypeEveryone told us we HAD to go to the Union Oyster House during our recent trip to Boston. We were so glad we did! The oysters, clam chowder and lobster rolls were amazing, and our "salty" waitress was a hoot! I may have regretted not getting the lobster tails though as they looked incredible when delivered to the table next to ours. Would totally recommend this as a MUST do.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMGood eats! This was our first visit to Union Oyster House and our server was very friendly. She was attentive and helped us to take photos. Other servers walking by also volunteered to help us take photos when we were goofing around with the lobster shell. The food was good. We had boiled lobster, the seafood broth with garlic bread, half a dozen oysters and clam chowder. We were seated upstairs right beside the Kennedy booth. It was a little dark and not as nice as the tables on the ground floor but still decent. Our bill came up to just over a hundred. Not too bad for 4.5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMFun place with a lot of historyBoston's oldest restaurant. Fresh fish, historical ambiance. Decent wine list. Try the chowder and raw oysters.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMNice placeThe salmon could have used more seasoning, but it was cooked to perfection. Very nice historical features.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMService and food were impeccable!Service and food were impeccable! Service was far better than on out previous visit in October.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMYum.I live this place for the history and great seafood. Had a bit of a snaggy waitress but everyone else was super friendly!5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMoldest restaurantCame here as this was my first time in Boston and wanted to try lobster. I was with a group,of 5, and all the food was delicious, service was good although we ask for wine and they brought it when we where finishing eating. The only thing that I didnt like is that we had to speak really loud to heat each other, but I think that was because our food neighboors were kinda screaming and laughing way tou loud....bit overall, great experience, If I ever get the chance to comeback to Boston I'll definitly be back to this restaurant.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMOyster and Lobster Heaven! If you want the BEST and Freshest Oysters in that part of Boston, then go and order them up with confidence! The place is a Historic Landmark and a great place for seafood and beer! Fun and touristy, but also very local and wicked smart!5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMA must try in BostonThe oldest restaurant in the US, a must try! Though little pricey, the food and service were awesome. Not a big deal. Oysters outstanding as always.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMDon't miss a visitUnion Oyster House is one if not the oldest spots in Boston for dining. There food and atmosphere is reminiscent of a trip to Boston in the 1700's. Situated on the freedom trail near Faneuil Hall, its a great spot for lunch or dinner. Reservation ar e must unless you want to chance waiting a couple of hours.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMBoston ClassicDined here many times. From the newer bar section to the old-time oyster bar, the experience is unparalleled. It just doesn't get any better for seafood in Boston. Service is friendly, timely, and unobtrusive.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat seafoodThe menu is mostly seafood, but you can still get a steak. Expensive food but very worth it for great seafood in a historic setting.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfectEverything was perfect. We got Oysters, which were beautifully shucked and very fresh, the lightest and sweetest fried clams I've ever had, and a very nice lobster roll. I recommend the cookie plate for dessert. Service was friendly, knowledgable and efficient.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Union Oyster House shouldThe Union Oyster House should be on the "to do" list for visitors to Boston. It was an incredible dining experience. We did not have to wait long because of our reservations.4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMAs always, the food and serviceAs always, the food and service at the Union Oyster House was excellent. As the name implies, seafood is the way to go here. What was particularly notable at our visit was that despite the large numbers of people "lining up" we had no sense of being rushed. The staff is adept at managing the desires of patrons. There were people ahead of us at the hostess station without a reservation and she was able to attend to their needs and give them helpful information about all of their options.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMa place to go if you come to BostonThe chowder was delicious. The food were really good too. It was a really busy night, we were glad that we had a reservation for a table and was served reasonably promptly. We were very pleased for sure4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMMust see!Union Oyster House is a historic, must-visit, restaurant! The food was tasty, the service was great, and it was one of those places you just have to dine at! I would definitely recommend placing a reservation online prior to your visit. People who were just walking in off the street had a 30 minute wait, we waited only 10 minutes by having a reservation prior to arriving! Overall a great experience!4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMThe oysters were deliciousThe oysters were delicious and the service was speedy and accommodating. I would have liked some healthier sides with the dishes - steamed vegetables or spinach salad - or even having the option for the grilled vegetable side to be a side on a meal without charging $10 extra for it. But the seafood was excellent and we would definitely come again.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMCharming, food was generous,Charming, food was generous, nice to be able to support an independent restaurant.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMLobster roll was tasty. ButLobster roll was tasty. But we really went because of the President Kennedy booth. Thought it was cool to see the booth where he and Jackie broke bread.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMCozy, quick and satisfying!Wonderful location, great service and good food. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience, the history is a nice addition to it! Looking forward to going again. The food is tradititional so if you're looking for something unique and creative, this isn't your best bet.4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Union Oyster House neverThe Union Oyster House never disappoints as an authentic Boston dining experience. The menu has many New England seafood options and all are done well. I always plan to eat at this restaurant when I return to the Boston area.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was awesome. OystersFood was awesome. Oysters from the raw bar were very fresh and yet creamy tasting, best I've had in years. Also the chowder was fabulous, very tasty and not at all salty (as with the case in many other restaurants).
We also ordered mussels and was amazed with the portion (relative to the price)! Boiled lobsters were also very good. We enjoyed through the whole meal, service was also very good. I would go there again when I am back in Boston next time!4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMIt's the oldest Tavern inIt's the oldest Tavern in America! The whole experience was fun, the food was good & solid. Their fried scallops were very tender. They also have a beer by Sam Adams made specifically for them, the Colonial - very good. This is a must do when in Boston - the upstairs dining atmosphere is like no other given the age of the building, you can just feel the history. Very cool!4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were visiting Boston fromWe were visiting Boston from out of town, so we chose the Union Oyster House because of its historical significance. The location is great near Faneuil Hall and other notable sites. The food was very good, if a little heavy, but we all enjoyed our meals, and they have a kids menu for smaller appetites. Unfortunately, our service was not very good and certainly not what we would expect from a top restaurant.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
