Ordered the Shore special...disappointing...for the price but other diners had delicious entrees5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMLived up to the hypeEveryone told us we HAD to go to the Union Oyster House during our recent trip to Boston. We were so glad we did! The oysters, clam chowder and lobster rolls were amazing, and our "salty" waitress was a hoot! I may have regretted not getting the lobster tails though as they looked incredible when delivered to the table next to ours. Would totally recommend this as a MUST do.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMGood eats! This was our first visit to Union Oyster House and our server was very friendly. She was attentive and helped us to take photos. Other servers walking by also volunteered to help us take photos when we were goofing around with the lobster shell. The food was good. We had boiled lobster, the seafood broth with garlic bread, half a dozen oysters and clam chowder. We were seated upstairs right beside the Kennedy booth. It was a little dark and not as nice as the tables on the ground floor but still decent. Our bill came up to just over a hundred. Not too bad for 4.5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMFun place with a lot of historyBoston's oldest restaurant. Fresh fish, historical ambiance. Decent wine list. Try the chowder and raw oysters.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMNice placeThe salmon could have used more seasoning, but it was cooked to perfection. Had a bit of a snaggy waitress but everyone else was super friendly!5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMoldest restaurantCame here as this was my first time in Boston and wanted to try lobster. I was with a group,of 5, and all the food was delicious, service was good although we ask for wine and they brought it when we where finishing eating. The only thing that I didnt like is that we had to speak really loud to heat each other, but I think that was because our food neighboors were kinda screaming and laughing way tou loud....bit overall, great experience, If I ever get the chance to comeback to Boston I'll definitly be back to this restaurant.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMOyster and Lobster Heaven! If you want the BEST and Freshest Oysters in that part of Boston, then go and order them up with confidence! From the newer bar section to the old-time oyster bar, the experience is unparalleled. It just doesn't get any better for seafood in Boston. Service is friendly, timely, and unobtrusive.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat experience as always.Great experience as always. Notable service. I had ordered a vegetable which wasn't served. Not a big deal. Oysters outstanding as always.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMDon't miss a visitUnion Oyster House is one if not the oldest spots in Boston for dining. There food and atmosphere is reminiscent of a trip to Boston in the 1700's. Situated on the freedom trail near Faneuil Hall, its a great spot for lunch or dinner. Reservation ar e must unless you want to chance waiting a couple of hours.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat seafoodThe menu is mostly seafood, but you can still get a steak. Expensive food but very worth it for great seafood in a historic setting.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfectEverything was perfect. We got Oysters, which were beautifully shucked and very fresh, the lightest and sweetest fried clams I've ever had, and a very nice lobster roll. I recommend the cookie plate for dessert. Service was friendly, knowledgable and efficient.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Union Oyster House shouldThe Union Oyster House should be on the "to do" list for visitors to Boston. It was an incredible dining experience. We did not have to wait long because of our reservations.4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMAs always, the food and serviceAs always, the food and service at the Union Oyster House was excellent. As the name implies, seafood is the way to go here. What was particularly notable at our visit was that despite the large numbers of people "lining up" we had no sense of being rushed. The staff is adept at managing the desires of patrons. There were people ahead of us at the hostess station without a reservation and she was able to attend to their needs and give them helpful information about all of their options.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMa place to go if you come to BostonThe chowder was delicious. We were very pleased for sure4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMThe oysters were deliciousThe oysters were delicious and the service was speedy and accommodating. I would have liked some healthier sides with the dishes - steamed vegetables or spinach salad - or even having the option for the grilled vegetable side to be a side on a meal without charging $10 extra for it. But the seafood was excellent and we would definitely come again.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMCharming, food was generous,Charming, food was generous, nice to be able to support an independent restaurant.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMLobster roll was tasty. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience, the history is a nice addition to it! Looking forward to going again. The food is tradititional so if you're looking for something unique and creative, this isn't your best bet.4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was awesome. OystersFood was awesome. Oysters from the raw bar were very fresh and yet creamy tasting, best I've had in years. Also the chowder was fabulous, very tasty and not at all salty (as with the case in many other restaurants).
We also ordered mussels and was amazed with the portion (relative to the price)! Boiled lobsters were also very good. We enjoyed through the whole meal, service was also very good. I would go there again when I am back in Boston next time!4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMIt's the oldest Tavern inIt's the oldest Tavern in America! The whole experience was fun, the food was good & solid. Their fried scallops were very tender. They also have a beer by Sam Adams made specifically for them, the Colonial - very good. This is a must do when in Boston - the upstairs dining atmosphere is like no other given the age of the building, you can just feel the history. Very cool!4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMA great must go!You were in Boston and not in the Union Oyster House? Well worth goingExcellent! Well worth going if you haven't recently. A boston landmark.3/25/2013 12:00:00 AMWe made our reservation oneWe made our reservation one day earlier and we were seated within 10 minutes of our assigned time. The atmosphere is wonderful and definitely something to experience when you visit Boston. We did not have fish at this restaurant but the filet mignon was perfectly cooked as I like it and my husband's pork was excellent. Service was very good, and everyone was warm and friendly.
NH3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMMy husband and I were in BostonMy husband and I were in Boston for the weekend to see a couple of shows. We are from Bellingham, and I had made reservations for dinner. When we walked in, it was like walking into history!! The atmosphere energetic. Looking at those around the oyster bar, and the main floor, we were greeted by the hosts. I have been using a crutch since having a hip replacement, and there was immediate genuine concern on how I was going to fare up the stairs. No problem, everyone was patient, and we were seated across the way from the "Kennedy Booth". Our waitress was fantastic, energetic, and recommended the dishes that we ordered. The Bluepoints were scrumptous, and our main course fantastic!!!! 5 stars!!! on my list.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat lobster!! Great forGreat lobster!! The food was a little pricey, especially for haddock, but well prepared and very tasty.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMA Side of History with That?Union Oyster House is a historic find in the middle of downtown Boston. If you want to commune with the ghosts of the founding fathers, Noah Webster, and their ilk, this is the place to be. A great, homey bar on the first floor is the perfect place for a platter of fresh oysters and beer. Upstairs, groups can congregate around tables where a former French King gave language lessons to the aristocratic ladies of Boston. The lobster salad sandwich, fried oyster roll and New England clam chowder are not to be missed. The cornbread is a signature side of this Boston landmark. No trip to Boston is complete without a visit to the Union Oyster House.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMThe fish was very fresh andThe fish was very fresh and perfectly cooked. The selection was appealing and the waitress was very friendly and helpful. The booths and tables are very tight, so not a very comfortable seating arrangement. The waitress kindly moved us from a table that had a serving station right behind it, and the booth was a bit more user-friendly - but not by much. Our guests from Portugal enjoyed their meal immensely and found the restaurant very interesting.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMI loved the house, the enviromentI loved the house, the enviroment and, of course, the food. But, in the begining, the service was not good. But, in the end, when the attendants changed, the service was better.
