Nice wait staff. Good food,
especially and obviously the seafood."

had a good first time experience.
table service was a little slow clearing everything but had a energetic waitress. Swordfish was a little over cooked but other than that meal was good! Would eat there again! Loved the decor"

I had a great time here, the food
and wine were wonderful. The only issue I had is that our table was right next to the kitchen. The alcove that leads into the kitchen should have curtains or some barrier that separates the tables from the kitchen."

Nice atmosphere. Food and service
are very good. Have eaten here numerous times and will continue to go back."

For dinner, my wife had the
swordfish Nicoise style, which was a nice cut of fish. I had the sesame crusted tuna, which while very nice sushi style, there was not enough soy sauce, ginger or wasabi. I did have some horseradish and mignonette left over from the oysters, so that helped somewhat. For desset, I had the White Chocolate cherry bread pudding, which was awesome. My wife wanted the chocolate cake, but wanted them to hold the salted caramel and the candied bacon -- they came on the side, but then the remaining cake was ridiculously small. All in all, I would go here again, but I might wait until the outside seating is open, and they have more wait staff."

Went here recently for Valentine's
Day with a girl I've been seeing for two months. Now, finding a place that is classy without being overly pretentious can usually be a daunting task. Union Fish was basically perfect, couldn't be happier with my experience here. The food was delicious, the space is cozy and intimate, and everything is nice and new. Our server didn't go out of his way to chat us up or be really friendly, but he was polite and timely. And I wouldn't have really wanted a chatty server anyway - after all it was Valentine's Day date. They have an impressive selection of beers and drinks. And, again, the food was just really, really good. Moderate-high price range, but totally worth it for a night out or special occasion"

Wonderful menu and wine selection.
Very attentive wait staff. Great background music ( Motown ). Designer cocktails and desserts provided a perfect finish. All in all it made for a wonderful Valentine's dinner."

My wife waited for 10 minutes for
a host or hostess to show up. She was ignored. This was on a quite, winter Sunday afternoon. It is obvious that the management does not care for mature diners."

Three generation group and all had
a fabulous meal. A new favorite spot no matter who we are with."

We have eaten at this restaurant 3
times in the past 2 months, twice at the bar, once at a table. We have always found the food to be surprisingly good. I say surprisingly because the service can be a little iffy, and one gets the feeing that they haven't quite found their groove yet. This last time the restaurant was packed on a Saturday night, and it took forever for our food to come out (a party of 4). It was an hour from the time we were seated until any food arrived. It will be a while before we decide to go back."

Granted it was a very cold night
but the restaurant was cold too and smelled of fish. The bread was tasty but also cold. I ordered the faroe island salmon with sweet potato hash and apple gastric. It was perfectly cooked and the flavors were great but they served the fish on an ice cold plate. My food quickly lost its heat and every time my hand brushed the plate, I felt coldness. It was the same for my dining partner who ordered the swordfish nicoise. Great flavors, well cooked served on an ice cold plate. We ordered the bread pudding for dessert which was again tasted great, we served hot, but was delivered on an ice cold plate. This restaurant need to get back to some restaurant basics, hot plates for hot food."

Small seating capacity but we sat
at a high top along the windows which was comfortable. The service was friendly and the food came out quickly. The menu is limited but good choices and great specials."
Dined on 1/18/2014
The only good thing I can say is
that the hostess was pleasant and accommodating. The food was bland, the drinks were very expensive, and overall it was a pricey meal we did not enjoy. I could not believe that they had no decaf coffee - on a Friday night! I've had restaurants say it would take a minute to brew a pot of decaf, but they actually told me they didn't have any. With 2 grocery markets within a 2 minute walk they couldn't send someone out for some decaf??? I won't ever go there again."
Dined on 1/10/2014
Food was good. Fresh seafood.
Service could definitely be better. We sat there for a while becore our server came by to take our drink order. She was chatting with coworkers. Once she got to us, she offered friendly service but nothing great."

I have been to this place twice -
once for lunch and once for dinner. In both occassions I had very good experience on the food and servcice but from reviews on Yelp it seems like some people have bad experience but not me. The place is not very big indoor so on a crowded night the noise level can be quite high but that also creates an energetic atmosphere."

How does a restaurant in Boston
run out of Lobster? I was coming in from out of town and really looking forward to a good seafood dinner. There were 4 items on the menu that looked very good. All of them, including the surf & turf, did have lobster as a portion of the meal. I was very displeased to find out that the restaurant was out of Lobster at 8pm. Instead I was forced to pick the swordfish which I didn't think it could be ruined to the point of not being able to eat it. I was wrong. It was so overcooked that when the waiter came to ask how the meal was, I told him that my fish was way overcooked (expecting the swordfish to be simply seared instead of well done). Expensive and terrible food."

We both thoroughly enjoyed this
restaurant. The waitress was exceptionally attentive without being overbearing. The food was wonderful! And we got to see Mark Wahlberg walk by our window while eating dinner since he was in Alma Nova promoting his new movie! This just added to the evening!"

We love the idea of this
restaurant and just wish it were better. This was our 4th visit and while we usually go on a Thursday night and sit in the bar, because it was Friday night, I made a reservation and we sat in the dining area. This is such a cute and charming space. But we started with a server who could barely be heard and clearly didn't know the details of the preparation of some of the dishes. We ordered drinks and an appetizer that we were going to split. The servers must work in teams, because another server brought us our appetizer. She wouldn't have known that we hadn't ordered our entrees yet and was gone before we could tell her. We didn't see our original server again until our drinks and the appetizer were finished."

I have tried this restaurant twice
with experiences. Falr to good. Fish is on the overlooked side and price a little high for what you receive. Service is fair, they may be short of waiters. The dining room is small and a little crowded."

I was so pleased with the menu. So
many healthy creative combinations. The service was perfect and the food was amazing."

I have had two meals here, both
among my top 10 ever. I don't eat fish so I was wary, but they have plenty of nonfish options made with just as much care. Every bite had such amazing depth of flavor and it was clear that so much care went into creating and executing each dish. The manager checked in with us which is always nice. The service was attentive, polite, and unobtrusive. The atmosphere was cozy and both rustic and modern - shabby chic. And the prices were surprisingly affordable. I'm used to paying 30 plus for a fancy meal that never quite feels worth it. Here I felt I got what I paid for and it was worth every penny. I've already made plans to go back Tuesday with visiting family! PS this is my first review ever, it was that good!"

We often eat at the bar and it
usually guarantees good service. Not the case this time. Bartender ignored us. Talked to his friend. Never asked if we wanted another drink. Halibut, which I really enjoyed my first visit, must have sat under a heat lamp because it and the underlying squash was all dried out."
Dined on 11/15/2013
Food was good. I have food
allergies and the chef is always good about making substitutions without fuss. It's a small place so I try to go when it's not peak hours which makes for a more enjoyable experience. Seafood is very fresh."
Dined on 11/16/2013
we've eaten here a few times -
always very good, sometimes exceptional. Unusual pairings of food and side dishes. The menu is varied and has omething for everyone"

Because we had such a pleasant
experience with our first visit to Union Fish, we returned on a weekend evening and found the experience every bit as pleasant. Our server Melissa (we requested her) is going to Florida for seasonal employment- maybe we will meet up, as we are headed South for the winter--but will definitely be back to Union Fish in the spring- have told all neighbors to try this great spot."

ARRIVED EXACTLY AT 8:00 FOR AN

FISH & CHIPOS WERE AVERAGE, LOBSTER ROLL WAS DRY-NO DRESSING ON LOBSTER MEAT SIMPLE SERVED DRY LOBSTER MEAT IN ROLL. DRINKS WERE GOOD."

Drinks were good. Didn't care for
chowder but tuna tartar was good. Swordfish was very good salmon special was just ok Music was annoying. Kinda old jukebox style."

Cozy addition to the shipyard.
Very attentive service. Really liked the stuffed fig appetizer. Fish and chips well executed. I was surprised it wasn't more crowded. Lots of interesting things to choose from."
Dined on 9/19/2013
The food and service were
wonderful that night. I had seen Union Fish on the Phantom Gourmet and tried most of the dishes the Chef had on that show...We were looking forward to try the lobster/grilled cheese sandwich but found it was a luncheon offering. The only complaint we all had was the sun issue. No matter what area of the restaurant to be seated was awashed with bright sunlight sparing those only who sat with backs to the windows. I have been to several restaurants that have sun issues. I have seen "shades" that block the sun but not the views. Perhaps this would be a better way to handle this issue. We would gladly return but only if we are not in the direct line of sun."

The food was awesome! I would go
again. Great restaurant ."

Fabulous food! Loved everything we
ordered. Super fresh seafood. Fair prices. However, service was slow. Our server seemed overwhelmed the entire time. She was very kind but never had the chance to connect with us or give us her full attention. We had to flag her down multiple times. The outdoor seating was great. Restaurant just seemed understaffed & disjointed. Because the food was so good, we will be back."

Arrived early for a 9pm
reservation, hostess was friendly and eager, good selections for drinks, updated verisions of typical New England seafood options. Everything was done well, great clam chowder & crab cake aps. Salmon and Sole dishes were prepared expertly. Our Server did not exhibt the same enthusiasm as the hostess, but was more than adequate. Experience at Union Fissh was great overall & we are already making plans to return."
Dined on 7/14/2013
Very good, fresh seafood. Pleasant
service. Very noisy--needs some soundproofing. Small number of tables so be sure to make a reservation."
Dined on 7/11/2013
Had a great meal at Union Fish,
everything we ordered was really delicious. The skillet cornbread is amazing! The waitstaff was friendly and competent. I can't say its the most beautiful place or has a great view or anything but its nice, they have outside seating and the location in Hingham Shipyard is great. Overall, I would highly recommend and I'll be going back soon."
Dined on 6/26/2013
This restaurant opened recently in
the Hingham Shipyard. This is now a great area for restaurants and Union Fish is an excellent choice. The restaurant is small, but nicely decorated and very vibrant. I had a special catfish dinner that was one of the best dinners I have had in the past year. The food and atmosphere was very nice and our server was excellent."

Made a 5pm reservation with our 2
kids. Got there at 4:50 and were told they were still doing prep work and don't seat until 5pm so we could take a seat outside or wait in the lobby. To start we ordered 4 shrimp cocktail and were brought 3 and told it was the last 3 they had. We were first table of the night so it was surprising. We also overheard that they only had 6 littlenecks left and were trying to figure out what to do. Kitchen staff was talking about substitutions in some other dishes so definitely a food shortage tonight. KIds got plain pasta and it was inedible. Texture was odd and almost seemed like it was microwaved. Kids asked if we could go across the street next time as they like their chicken and pasta better."
Dined on 6/24/2013
On balance our dinner was fine.
Fisherman's Platters. Generous portion, attractively presented and at a fair price point. The clams were wonderful, but the scallops and shrimp might've been frozen...tasteless and without firmness. The fish was ok, but it's always the last thing to be sampled and least interesting. Our server was attentive and engaging, but relatively inexperienced, particularly handling our wine. No crime to be new at something. We liked her. Overall impression was mixed. Attractive space, but overwhelmed by the bar and bar seating. Ample outside seating, but wonder about NE weather and how restaurant will staff its quirkiness. Best wishes for the future in the Shipyard."
Dined on 6/11/2013
Hopefully they can work it out and
the place will be good. The food was okay. The server was good, trying her best. They were out of a lot of wines and many menu items. SLOW was word of the night, even the raw bar was backed up?! How is raw food already ready that backed up? Oh well, we'll try again to see if its better"
