Owners, Susan and Chef Ben Roberts invite you to enjoy our Contemporary American Cuisine where we utilize Classical French cooking techniques with global influences. With our 150 bottle wine list with 50 wines by the glass, Undercurrent has been recognized multiple years by both Wine Spectator and Wine Enthusiast. We have been rated consistently tops in our class of restaurants. The ambiance is truly one of the nicest in the area with big tables, nice chairs, and ample space for you while dining. We now have a truly fabulous patio area. We seat our patio on a "first come first served basis". Please comment in your reservation notes that you would prefer the patio if available and we'll do our best to accommodate, but it is best to come in early. A comfortable bar is available to begin your dining experience or to visit after you dine. Please join us and let the capable staff at Undercurrent make your lunch or dinner a wonderful experience.

  • "My coworker and I visited this restaurant back in the Fall. We had a WONDERFUL waitress (Lynn maybe?) who gave us great recommendations and was the perfect combination of attentive and knowledgeable. In the spring we went back and were frustrated almost immediately with our new waitress' attitude and lack of help. Took 20 minutes to get our drinks. She never read the specials and her attitude and slow service continued through the entire meal. We didn't get a thank you when she brought the check. Terrible service for an upscale restaurant. The food was very good like last time. But when we left and told the manager how disappointed we were, he just shrugged it off and barely apologized. Needless to say, we will not be going back."

The banana fritters were pure sugar and not edible. I'm not particular, but when I leave dessert, it's bad. It was a shame that it came at the end of an otherwise nice meal. The lamb chops were especially noteworthy."

  • "When we're in Greensboro for basketball tournaments, we always visit Undercurrent knowing we're assured of an excellent meal. Service is always attentive and helpful. Noise level can get a little "energetic" if there are several groups dining there, but never to the point of being overly loud; noise level has never been an issue when we've been there. I'm not a wine-drinker so cannot be of any help in that area. My usual "format" is salad, entree, and dessert. Diners have the option of entree option of "small" and "large" plates. I had seared scallops with saute of amaranth/mushrooms/kale, preceded by organic green salad with olives and artichokes, and for dessert a luscious maple/apricot bread pudding with bourbon sauce. Wonderful meal!"

  • "Very, very talented Chefs who understand food; the flavors were Divine. My husband had frog legs (yes, frog legs) that fell off their little bones. The salads, the appetizers, the soups were like music in your mouth. Our waiter was the best. We are real foodies and couldn't believe this incredible little restaurant sitting there downtown, across from the Marriott was so friggin amazing. It was like eating at the 4 Seasons in NY where each dish was truly a "creation"-/ the sophistication of NYC with this subtle undercurrent if the Deep South" Bravo to you at Undercurrent for caring and we want you to know it is appreciated. We discovered it while attending the ACC Basketball! We will be back in 2015! Wish we lived here..."

Our serving staff was attentive and pleasant, and asked if we were there for a special reason. They wanted to know why they had earned our business, and I appreciate a place that cares. This is the best restaurant I've been to in the last 10 years in Greensboro, and I'd highly recommend it."

My lobster-crab spring rolls were quite good, although the sauces provided with them were undistinguished and did not bring out their flavors. On the other hand, the flounder that was my main course was just so-so. My wife's chicken was not very exciting either, and we skipped dessert because none of the options appealed to us. The waitress worked with us on wine choices, and both my white and my wife's red were quite good."

  • "Good service and great food on a very busy night at Undercurrent. Beef and Barley Soup, Sweet Potato Gnocchi, Mushroom Tart and Duck Confit were all first rate. For the first time in many trips, we had a "simple" green salad that was innovative and full of unexpected flavors. The revelation of the evening was in the accompaniment to Bison Flank Steak. Black Beans and Root Vegetables were flavored with Black Garlic among other spices to make a the dish a star. Chef Michael was at his best and Klaude continues to run an outstanding room."

Our waiter and staff were informed and attentive. The food was delicious and had a nice presentation. The ambiance and décor was great and the lighting was soft and enough to read the menu. The ONLY downfall is that the "decaf" was not -- and at 4:00 a.m. I was still struggling to go to sleep. One would expect an upscale restaurant to be careful of the request to serve decaf. If we return, we will not be able to enjoy a nice warm cup to cap off the evening...it's not worth the sleepless night."
