A word from Umami Umami
Umami Umami is an intimate dining experience where food aficionados can go to enjoy sitting in a cozy downstairs sushi bar or ascend the grand staircase, admiring the beautiful crystal chandelier en route to the spacious yet intimate dining room.

Umami Umami is a family owned and operated restaurant: Inspired by the historical background of the building; the family was determined to restore the building to its former glory. Their dream was to reintroduce the former Dresher Inn to the community as a dynamic culinary experience blending Japanese and Korean cuisines. We are proud to have accomplished their goal and invite you to join us.

Diner Reviews
  • "Have dined at umami umami several times, and continue to find it to be one of my favorite sushi restaurants in the area. Fish is super fresh, roles are large and creative. It's not cheap, but is worth every penny. Enjoy!"

  • "Umami Umami is the only sushi place that we go to, whether it is just the two of us or with others. The great thing is that if you do not care for sushi, there are other items on the menu that are equally tasty. The sushi dishes are beautifully presented and the portion sizes are generous. The non-sushi items, such as the Korean dolosot bibim bop, which I may have spelled incorrectly, is wonderful, specially on a cold night. the wait-staff are knowledgeable and friendly. All in all, it is a great place to have lunch and dinner in a lovely room."

  • "We tried the Umami Umami dumplings and the Tuna Tower. The dumplings were very tasty, the Tower had amazing taste and contrast of flavors. We added to our list of favorites when we are in the area!"

  • "We stumbled upon Umami Umami about six months ago, and we are oh so glad we did. Although we live about 45 minutes away, it's more than worth the drive to experience their incredible sushi rolls. This is by no means your everyday sushi. The sauces, presentation, and flavors simply delight. We introduced the place to friends who also live 45 minutes away, and now they're anxious to meet us here! The special rolls are simply an experience...try The Sampler...Boom Boom...Dresher...haven't had one we don't love. The squid and cucumber salad appetizer is pretty awesome, too. If you pull in and they're not busy, don't let that deter you, but be glad that you're about to experience a flavor explosion. "

  • "Their tower is an awesome dish, made even better when served as a combination platter. The oyster shooter with quail egg yolk was full of unique flavors. Green Tea ice cream was classic. "

  • "Everything was fantastic including the food, service and ambiance. It's a bit pricey, but so worth it. There are a bevvy of options ranging from Sushi and Japanese dishes to Korean dishes and alcoholic beverages. We had a handful of different Sushi rolls and the best Chilean Sea Bass I've ever had. "

  • "You definitely get what you pay for at this restaurant. The specialty rolls are a bit on the expensive side but it's worth it. They are huge rolls and absolutely delicious. Everything was super fresh and the service was great."

  • "Surprisingly high quality food and presentation for a restaurant sandwiched between fast food restaurants and a gas station. It was great! Sushi and both the Korean and Japanese entrees we tried were fresh and delicious. Service was wonderful and the restaurant upkeep is immaculate. Would definitely recommend!"

  • "The food was very good and came out promptly. We had very friendly service. The food was presented nicely. I thought it was a tad bit more pricy than some other sushi places I had been to, but just by a little."

  • "I really like the food here. The sushi is fresh and that's enough to recommend any restaurant in my book. Service is attentive and friendly but not overbearing. "

  • "Each dish looks and tastes like it's own work of art. As total foodies, we visit often. Do yourself a favor and make reservations if you plan to visit on a Friday or Saturday night."

  • "Every time we come here we leave raving about how good everything was. This visit was no different. As always we got the tower and then we split the boom boom and zaya rolls. Everything was delicious. I was a fan of the white wines they have by the glass but my husband was disappointed that they didn't have mixed drinks. Their desserts also didn't seem overly appealing but I came for the sushi so that didn't bother me. Can't wait to return."

  • "I am so happy my wife and I were able to book a table for Valentines Day. We had been told about this restaurant by friends who raved about it. I have to say, their hype did not disappoint! The Food was FANTASTIC. Do yourself a favor if you love Sushi and order the Creamy Golden Crab! Umami Umami is a great hidden away gem that you can take your friends too and surprise them. Fantastic Sushi, the next time I go I am going to try some of the Korean items on the menu."

  • "My wife and I were very impressed on Valentines day. It was pretty busy because Vday was on Friday this year, so the slower service was forgiveable. Our server had an expert command of their large menu and was able to give spot-on recs to my wife who isn't a big raw fish eater. I tried baked sushi which was alright but I am probably more of a raw sushi person. The other rolls were excellent and the jalepeno spicy tuna appetizer is probably the best and most creative appetizer i have ever eaten."

  • "We dined at this restaurant with another couple and our 2 toddlers- def not kid friendly. No kids menu and they are not flexible in modifying orders. We managed to order for our kids and placed the order asap. Unfortunately, we did not receive our kids orders in the same fashion. We received our appetizers, ordered much later, before our kids orders. Although it didn't seem too busy, the waiter said the sushi bar was backed up. The food was good when we finally received it, however by that time our kids were going crazy as they had been sitting there for so long! Lastly, we decided to split the bill. The waiter swiped our credit card twice instead of splitting the bill. Overall even though the food was good the service was extremely poor."

  • "My husband and I looooove this place! It is hands-down the best sushi I've ever had and I've tried it all over the world! Our favorite is the Spicy Tuna Tower- very original and delicious. The appetizers are incredible, as are the desserts! The service is wonderful and we're always able to book on OpenTable even last minute. We've had birthday parties here and they did an amazing job hosting my bridal shower! Don't wait a second longer to try this place!"

  • "Sorry it did not meet my expectations.. Easy parking, nice building, but should not have cross out on sign when walking in..Very noisy upstairs where dinner is served. All wood and no sound barriers at all. Server was pleasant and knowledgeable. We go for Sushi and this is not the restaurant if you want high quality tasty Sushi. Its a shame as they try hard but they need to put a real effort in understanding the expectations of a Sushi customer. It was too cold, no taste and cut too large to make it appear that you get more. Even the second serving after our complaint did not help. Sorry may be good for other food."

  • "This is one of the few restaurants in Lionville/Exton that never disappoints. Bring a bottle of wine, go with the 'Lover' roll amongst others, use the chopstix and enjoy a different evening. :-)"

  • "I was nearby on business. My colleagues all wanted to go to Cheesecake Factory, but I used Opentable to find this place. It was really good sushi at pretty reasonable prices. I had the three sample rolls (tower, ninja, red dragon) and it was awesome. I was pretty surprised that they were not busy, although it was a Tuesday night."

I think easily some of the best sushi in our area The service is always attentive, they are just so nice. It is a pleasant place to be, great atmosphere."

  • "I drove by this place for years when I worked in Ft Wash. Love the rehab on the original Dresher Inn. Very nice restaurant. Sushi bar is downstairs, with more seating upstairs. Nice menu with unusual items, like oyster shooters. My dining companion had one and liked it. He ordered his regular fare of tuna, salmon and yellowtail. Waiter mentioned that they had toro and my date upgraded. He was satisfied with the freshness and the portions of the fish. (larger that he is used to) I had the Kitchen Hibatchi with beef. Beef was a little tough, but the balance of the dish was fresh and tasty. I would go again and more importantly he would go again. Bill came to 84. (two warm sake - one large one small)"

  • "My husband and I wanted to check out this local sushi spot at the old inn near Dreshertown road. The place was lovely and the food beautifully prepared. It was a bit quieter than we expected for a Thursday evening but we came earlier than the full dinnertime rush. We enjoyed our time and felt the service was good, not overbearing or pushy in the slightest, but very accommodating and pleasant. We would certainly return, and with friends, especially for a nice evening out."

  • "We have found what we feel are the best sushi specialty rolls around at Umami Umami. It's not inexpensive, but the food is awesome and worth it for a special occassion. The rolls are pretty big too. We've been there several times and every time we have enjoyed it. This time we had three items and all were great - The Tower, The Dresher Roll and The Black Dragon. The servers and hostess there are very nice also."
