Chef Dady has a wonderful Asian-inspired menu at his new restaurant. Wait staff is appropriately attentive. The cocktail and wine menu has something for all tastes. The happy hour menu provides ample food and drink to satisfy your post-workday cravings. The food menu contains a nice variety of delicious options. Most of the dishes are fabulous. I experienced only a few that were merely good or fair. Beware, some of the creations are extremely rich. The sweet tooth is satisfied by a handful of delectable desserts. Overall, this restaurant will provide you a memorable and pleasing experience.

I love Jason Dady's food and I think he's super talented but Umai Mi is confusing. There's something about the paper menu with hashtag labels, the TVs with Asian drama in the dining room and the expensive prices that make me have an identity crisis in this restaurant. I wanted to love it but as an avid Bin 555 fan, I was disappointed with the food, service, decor and wine list. Everyone raved in previous reviews about the Deviled Eggs - they were good, but I don't feel the need to have them again. The real star of the dining experience was the crispy rice. It's bright, seasoned, amazing texture - just lovely. The Crispy Shrimp was over-saunced, over-salted but was so close to yummy, that with a few corrections, it could be special.

I loved the ambience! Old Kung fu movies play over a set or wooden screens on a wall, red panels on the ceiling, and Barry White playing in the background provide just enough hint of the 70's without being overly tacky or garish. Our server greeted us immediately, was personable, and did not hesitate to make recommendations. We had to flag him down when we were ready for dessert, since by then the place was starting to fill up and he struggled a bit to balance his tables. The food was the real prize winner. We started with the papaya and crispy rice. The rice was absolutely phenomenal! My husband had the pork belly and I had the duck, both of which were superb! We finished with the chocolate and Nutella desserts. Divine! Worth repeating!

Sorry we love you Chef Dady but Umai Mi has gone downhill. Mediocre quality food but still good service. We hope you can turn it back around.

My husband and I sat at the chef's table for our anniversary. Service was very attentive and we had a great mix of well seasoned dishes from a radish/turnip salad to a perfectly seared steak with smoky soy broth. Must have dishes include the crispy shrimp and the green beans!!! The deserts are also amazing, particularly the chocolate torte.

We took a group of business associates for dinner and they were wowed! Food was inventive and delicious, atmosphere a bit funky but not over the top, and noise level was reasonable for conversing. Pace was relaxed and we didn't feel rushed. We especially liked the happy hour menu... the Asian Rita rocked! Only disappointment was we went a day early; the following evening they were offering a prix fixe menu that looked amazing. We'll definitely be back.

Everything I ordered was delicious. We ordeed the devil eggs, the shrimp appetizer, and I had the pork belly with bonito flakes and crab pancake. All delicious! The service was also great and the noise not overwhelming. We were able to have a conversation on a table of 9 people without having to shout. Definitely a great place to go and have a special dinner.

Not like your parent's Asian food you've had before -- better, inventive, outstanding. Don't miss the deviled eggs, crispy rice and shrimp rolls. And no one can make a unique soup like Chef Dady. But hang on for their potent craft cocktails !

No one greeted us as we entered the restaurant, had to wait for a host or anyone to seat us. Bin and Tonic: Muddled cucumber cocktail - couldn't taste the cucumber! Genuinely bad cocktail. I have had better vodka sodas! Green Papaya salad was overspiced and unenjoyable - could only eat half before my stomach started to ache. Crispy rice dish was well textured but underspiced. The Nutella dish was solid, but needed more cream to neutralize. In general, everything was a bit too overdone in spice, poorly considered portions for flavor strength and not enough neutralizing elements leading to an overall unsatisfactory experience.

The wife and I went for Restaurant Week 2014 because they seemed to have one of the more interesting menus. The service was outstanding, he was very knowledgeable about the drink and food menu. The manager also visited often and was very approachable. One of the best service experiences we have had in San Antonio. Food was just average. Menu and preparation was interesting and very detailed, but the food was not outstanding. My wife had been before and thought the food was fantastic so it may have just been what we ordered. If the food was just a little better, would have given it 5 Stars. They included a 20% gratuity on the bill, but I left more.

The food was fresh and prepared inventively. We had the Buffalo Mozzarella with Fresh Figs, Grilled Japanese Eggplant, the Charred Carrots, the Honey crispy walnut shrimp, and the Duck Curry. Everything was AHHHHHH-Mazing! You have to get the Duck Curry, it's the best I've ever had. I'm still salivating thinking about it!

They did an incredible job on the new look of the place. The menu is very interesting - we had a hard time choosing as there were such delicious options. We had the wagyu beef - perfectly cooked. The seafood special, delicious. The curry dish which was light on the heat but heavy on flavor; very nice. The crispy shrimp which was over-dressed in Japanese mayo (kewpie) and unfortunately, unable to be scraped off without taking off the delicious crispiness. Waiter suggested notifying chef via comment card, we did but manager simply said to order it on the side next time. Desserts were green tea coffee cake which was very good but the UmaiMi version of mango and sticky rice was awesome. Don't share. Make you dinner companions get their own!

The food is perfect. You will not find better deviled eggs, shrimp, quail etc. On this visit, the ususal bartender was off and his replacement did not measure up to their previous high standards. it is not acceptable to serve a side car in a brandy snifter.
