Diner Reviews
  • "Being from the Basque country, I was very disappointed. The food was average and the price high. Nothing to remember, been there once and won't come back"

  • "upon arrival, the service team were sincerely friendly (especially for new york standard where lack of sincerity is almost expected), made recommendations based on what they think we would enjoy instead of what is most expensive in the menu, even told us what we ordered was too much and that it should be cut down (really appreciated that thanks!) some of the tapas dishes were excellent, though some of the meat tapas were just alright and not at all memorable. Didn't get a chance to try the dessert, but looked great on the other tables! Excellent white sangria (which also came recommended by the super friendly waitress) would come back for light bites for sure!"

  • "Menu is very complete with lots to choose from in every category."

  • "Everything was tasty (squid ribbons, tongue, suckling pig, spring vegetables) but the portion size of the almejas (clams) was an embarrasment - four tiny cockles....."

  • "Really great place. A bit hard to find. Love the food (and the wine), and they are always really accommodating."

  • "Very disappointed. The tapas are below average and highly overpriced. Tiny slice of miniature stale bread with sardine taken out of a can - for 7 dollars - I would not call it tapas...The wine (small amount) served in a regular glass cup Potato chips - they really were potato chips from cheap supermarket brand! - just pretentiously served. Kept ordering other "dishes" because the portions were so tiny and we were so hungry and were hoping that it would "improve" a bit but it did not! The minute after finishing the "food" the waitress brought as a bill... We did not ask for a bill yet! Maybe each table should also get a magnifying glass so you can see the food !"

  • "For those worldly travelers out there that have missed the delicious treats of Bilbao and the true, authentic Ciders of the north, Txikito will give you a crash pad to get back "home". For all those that have spent a significant time in Spain, this special spot will help you to quench the craving for "la vida Espana," with a full list of Basque treats in all forms. At the end of the meal, our server mentioned that the owners have two other Spanish restaurants in the city as well. They have an Andalucian (my southern food) restaurant out in Brooklyn, which will likely be our next adventure. We just asked the server for her favorites, and took a tour of the menu. Couldn't be happier with this spot."

  • "This was an extraordinary tapas restaurant with way more than the usual tapas suspects on the menu. The menu was extensive and interesting. After we chose four items for our dinner, I felt like I had left behind at least 10 other items that I was dying to try. Everything was delicious. The service was friendly and helpful and outstanding. I can't wait to go back and try some of the exciting options I wasn't able to have this time around. I love small plates and tapas but often find that these sorts of spots have predictable menus and non-remarkable cuisine. This restaurant could not have been more opposite."

  • "Food was good but nothing special. Ordered about 10 dishes and everything was good but nothing memorable. Wouldn't go back."

  • "I was trying to get my usual reservation at another tapas restaurant - but they were booked. So we tried Txikito because of all the great reviews. It was fantastick! So glad we went there. Next time we are in the mood for tapas - we will hit this place again. Loved the red sangria and the truffle sandwiches. Also try the clams - and ask for extra bread to dunk in the sauce!"

  • "Unique tastes. Carpaccio of pulpo was terrific. Ribs were unexciting. Chorizo with egg absolutely super. Would like to go again and taste much more"

  • "I would most certainly return to dine, and am interested in checking out Txikito's sister restaurants. Delicious food, friendly service, and interesting decor. Loved the wall paper in the bathroom (seriously! very unique!)."

  • "Checked out Txikito for the first time this week and will totally be going back! It was completely packed for a Monday night - including with a group of people who are part of some Basque-related group, so that gave a good indication that we were in for some authentic yumminess. The staff was knowledgeable, super friendly and made us feel so comfortable. Ok, so we did order the foie gras, which I am not sure is so Basque in style, but it was amazing. The squid and lamb meatballs were both excellent too. Peppers - standard tapas, so can't go wrong there - were so good and the fries with roe aioli? We ate every single bit. Overall an excellent meal and we will definitely be returning to try everything else we didn't get to this time!"

  • "Went here with a few friends (5 total) for my birthday. While the food was pretty great, I wouldn't have called it an amazing experience and really have no desire to return. We ordered a lot of dishes (it's shared tapas), but the portions were all tiny and it wasn't very satisfying. Some good flavors, but nothing that blew me away. Non-existant cocktail menu. Most disappointing was the ambiance, which was very plain--I was actually really surprised when I walked in as I expected it to be an upscale restaurant. The place looks like a casual cafe, but charges prices of other much better restaurants. The meal was decent, but for the amount we paid, I wish we'd gone somewhere that offered a more well-rounded experience."

  • "Txikito features Basque cuisine and wines. The menu consists primarily of small plates, which to me is a great solution for an after-theater or late-night dinner, although a couple of special entrees are also featured every night. Small plates of pork belly on crusty bread and the special entree of roast pork with chimichurri sauce were both absolutely delicious. A small sandwich of tuna with pimiento was good. Service was professional and very friendly. We look forward to going back."

  • "Txikito is a wonderful surprise, on a stretch of 9th Ave not known for great restaurants. Authentic Basque food. Sliced octopus with lemon is super, as is roast pork. Wine list is quite good, with several at modest prices. Worth a visit"

  • "Thank you for everyone at Txikito for a wonderful experience. The service and attentiveness was spot on. The food was out of this world and brought be back to Spain. The "shrimp and meat" balls were my favorite which only slightly beat out the stringed squid, mushrooms, and may other notable dishes I will never learn to pronounce correctly."

  • "The servers were rather rude and pretentious, but this restaurant has decent tapas and a menu suitable to introduce children to a new cuisine. While the word must already be out as a child-friendly hotspot, as there were several tables with single parents taking their elementary school age child for a quick delicious bite. Toys and boardgames were available upon request."

  • "Really great food on the menu usually outdone by the specials. The octopus carpaccio is to die for. The service here is great also, attentive but they don't rush you or harass you too much. Really good place to have great food and wine while having a conversation without having to shout."

  • "Had a great dinner at the bar. Every dish we shared was better than the last. And the fortified wine cocktails were terrific. Taylor, the bartender had great recommendations and his Catalan is perfect."

  • "We tried a variety of items and they were all quite tasty. Service was timely and attentive but not intrusive. It was quite busy on a Tuesday night and there were a few people waiting for a table when we left around 7:45."

  • "Txikito is by far the best tapas restaurant in New York. It has the feel of a neighborhood joint and the ambiance is great. The food is above and beyond trendier tapas spots in the city. The only negative is that sometimes the food comes out way too fast and your super fun dinner is over before you know it! The wine list is well curated for Basque and Spanish wines."

  • "We particularly enjoyed the pikillo dish and the burgers. The wine list included a very good tempranillo."
    Dined on 12/2/2013
  • "The food as very good but very overpriced. I was absolutely disappointed with their "chips" which were not made by them, but directly out from a bag. Honestly, how do they dare charge one cent for chips that come out of a lay's bag! Embarrasing."

  • "I love Txikito so much. It's an early discoverer, and it never fails to impress. But I've got say, the prices of their little dishes are a bit steep. The tab causes a double take every time I eat here."

  • "Dishes were hit or miss, which is a disappointment considering the price but I would try this place again. Fois gras was excellent, peppers and croquettes were as expected. We enjoyed our drinks. The mushroom carpaccio was a disappointment, the uncured bacon sandwich was much too gamey and the scallops arrived tepid. Still it was an enjoyable meal and ambiance overall and the waiter knew to keep his distance when appropriate so we could enjoy our conversation."

  • "Food is yummy -- octopus with lemon oil, little silver anchovy toasts, pil pil (olive oil poached salt cod) all very good. Interesting wine list. Atmosphere is relaxed, the service is friendly and prompt, noise level fine (neither graveyard nor party scene). We were warned against a blind wine choice, which I appreciate. Only problem is that the prices are surprisingly high for a neighborhood restaurant. While each dish seems reasonably priced, the amount of food is small. The wine list has only three reds under $50. So while the restaurant feels like the neighborhood gem where I would want to pop in regularly for a midweek dinner, I find the prices not in tune with that."

  • "Everything here was pretty good. The service was friendly, the food was good and the place was not bad. But, the food portions were incredibly small!! As well, the so-called relatively high priced main courses came with nothing else and there were no side dishes offered. I passed on the few "pudding" desserts and chose to have dessert elsewhere. Why pay more for nothing. Too bad, I'll never bother to go back."
