It's strange, really, as there's no apparent reason for this. So I keep going back thinking that the poor service was just an aberration, however, there does seem to be a pattern. I think that may be it for it. Onto other places."

  • "Flavourful small servings, which will work well for a snack, lunch, and dinner. Small plates means lots of variety, and great for sharing with a partner or in a bigger group. Location was pretty handy, and there are some good alternatives just within a block or two. Decor is simple, and the atmosphere is casual, which was perfect for a warm evening."

  • "It was my first time there. I ate there with Spanish friends which were very knowledgeable about tapas. They also were very satisfied and they said that it was the closest to the original tapas one could find in NY. This being said, I eat out very often in NY and abroad, and I found this restaurant although good, really overpriced. The sardines, the fois gras, the porcini, the octopus carpaccio, to name few were excellent. We had several types of tapas and they were ALL good. Food wise, you can't go wrong!"

  • "Being Basque and a connoisseur of our gastronomy I have never found good Basque food abroad. So we gave Txikito a try. But as soon as the food came we knew this wouldn't be the place. The dishes are poorly executed and the portions tiny, tiny Txistorra:too greasy and fluffy, not crispy as it should be. The size of the portion,a joke. White asparragus: from a can (not a good one), insipid dressing. Croquets:very average Txipirones:tasteless, the texture was not right. Fried peppers: good Aubergine:nice taste,microscopic portion Cheese table:the best of the night Torta:fine, just too small Coffee:good cortado Sadly a big (and pricy)deception. After eating we went for a walk to get some frozen yoghourt, that was good. We were still hungry."

  • "Was looking for a substantial dinner but found tapas, though they are not called Tapas here. Portions were tasty though incredibly meager. Waiter recommended 2 plates per person. In reality, given the size of the plates (equal to single serving appetizers), most normal appetites would be comfortable with 3-4. I ordered a beer. Though very tasty, it came out in an 8oz tumbler....for $6! I am 52, have travelled extensively (to include Spain 2x) and have never been served an 8oz beer. $6 for a beer is NYC ...$6 for an 8oz beer is legal thievery."

  • "This a Tapas place and they take their small plate size very seriously. The portions are actually bite size. Priced from 4-16/18 dollars, I find that very pricey. We did try the days special- fish for 26 dollars. It was more amusing than delicious but it was a good recommendation. Ambience is almost romantic. It is a well done place. They have some good beers on draft. Gives you a good feel. Our server was great. He was very accommodating to all our questions and made the experience even more enjoyable. I wouldn't mind the price but for the quantity of food. "

  • "upon arrival, the service team were sincerely friendly (especially for new york standard where lack of sincerity is almost expected), made recommendations based on what they think we would enjoy instead of what is most expensive in the menu, even told us what we ordered was too much and that it should be cut down (really appreciated that thanks!) some of the tapas dishes were excellent, though some of the meat tapas were just alright and not at all memorable. Didn't get a chance to try the dessert, but looked great on the other tables! Excellent white sangria (which also came recommended by the super friendly waitress) would come back for light bites for sure!"

Tiny slice of miniature stale bread with sardine taken out of a can - for 7 dollars - I would not call it tapas...The wine (small amount) served in a regular glass cup Potato chips - they really were potato chips from cheap supermarket brand! - just pretentiously served. Kept ordering other "dishes" because the portions were so tiny and we were so hungry and were hoping that it would "improve" a bit but it did not! The minute after finishing the "food" the waitress brought as a bill... We did not ask for a bill yet! Maybe each table should also get a magnifying glass so you can see the food !"

  • "For those worldly travelers out there that have missed the delicious treats of Bilbao and the true, authentic Ciders of the north, Txikito will give you a crash pad to get back "home". For all those that have spent a significant time in Spain, this special spot will help you to quench the craving for "la vida Espana," with a full list of Basque treats in all forms. At the end of the meal, our server mentioned that the owners have two other Spanish restaurants in the city as well. They have an Andalucian (my southern food) restaurant out in Brooklyn, which will likely be our next adventure. We just asked the server for her favorites, and took a tour of the menu. Couldn't be happier with this spot."

  • "This was an extraordinary tapas restaurant with way more than the usual tapas suspects on the menu. The menu was extensive and interesting. After we chose four items for our dinner, I felt like I had left behind at least 10 other items that I was dying to try. Everything was delicious. The service was friendly and helpful and outstanding. I can't wait to go back and try some of the exciting options I wasn't able to have this time around. I love small plates and tapas but often find that these sorts of spots have predictable menus and non-remarkable cuisine. This restaurant could not have been more opposite."

  • "I was trying to get my usual reservation at another tapas restaurant - but they were booked. So we tried Txikito because of all the great reviews. It was fantastick! So glad we went there. Next time we are in the mood for tapas - we will hit this place again. Loved the red sangria and the truffle sandwiches. Also try the clams - and ask for extra bread to dunk in the sauce!"

It was completely packed for a Monday night - including with a group of people who are part of some Basque-related group, so that gave a good indication that we were in for some authentic yumminess. The staff was knowledgeable, super friendly and made us feel so comfortable. Ok, so we did order the foie gras, which I am not sure is so Basque in style, but it was amazing. The squid and lamb meatballs were both excellent too. Peppers - standard tapas, so can't go wrong there - were so good and the fries with roe aioli? We ate every single bit. Overall an excellent meal and we will definitely be returning to try everything else we didn't get to this time!"

  • "Went here with a few friends (5 total) for my birthday. While the food was pretty great, I wouldn't have called it an amazing experience and really have no desire to return. We ordered a lot of dishes (it's shared tapas), but the portions were all tiny and it wasn't very satisfying. Some good flavors, but nothing that blew me away. Non-existant cocktail menu. Most disappointing was the ambiance, which was very plain--I was actually really surprised when I walked in as I expected it to be an upscale restaurant. The place looks like a casual cafe, but charges prices of other much better restaurants. The meal was decent, but for the amount we paid, I wish we'd gone somewhere that offered a more well-rounded experience."

The menu consists primarily of small plates, which to me is a great solution for an after-theater or late-night dinner, although a couple of special entrees are also featured every night. Small plates of pork belly on crusty bread and the special entree of roast pork with chimichurri sauce were both absolutely delicious. A small sandwich of tuna with pimiento was good. Service was professional and very friendly. We look forward to going back."
