Diner Reviews
  • "On my 2nd trip to Estes Park I went on Trip Advisor to find a nice place for dinner. Twin Owls was it! The place is wonderful, great views of the mountains. It was very easy to get to. Our waitress was wonderful and checked in when needed. We can't wait to go back during our next trip. If you get the lamp chops, please know it is a lot of food. My husband got elk - it was wonderful."

  • " The Twin Owls is a fabulous find. We eat there as a must do, whenever we stay in Estes Park. The food is mouthwatering and the service excellent. The last meal we had there consisted of Elk Medallions for my spouse and the Filet MacGregor for me. The meat was tender and delicious and the accompanying vegetables were very tasty. Highly recommend it for dinner."

  • "We dined here on our 50th wedding anniversary & the hostess & waiter could not have been any more hospitable. We were given special seating & champagne to celebrate! Perfect evening!"

  • "Our son and daughter-in-law got married here 5 years ago but with all the excitement etc. we couldn't remember much about the meal. On our return we thought the food was good but not great. My Buffalo Ribeye steak was pretty tough and it was covered in too much sauce."

  • "The food was excellent but finding a parking place in time to meet our reservation proved to be a challenge. The ambience was good but our table placement was situated just outside the entry to the kitchen. The very busy and efficient wait staff all had to pass by our table which was kind of a nuisance and detracted from the joy of an otherwise excellent meal."

  • "Very nice overall experience with nicely paired wine selections. A little disappointed the trout was not local, and thought the table upstairs was romantic, they could use a dimmer to add to the ambiance. My husband's elk was fabulous. My lamb chops were tasty but a little thin/dry even cooked medium rare."

  • "The brie appetizer was outstanding. We ordered the carrot soup and it was average. The Angus burger was the best I have ever tasted."

  • "Having reserved a quiet table to celebrate our wedding anniversary, we were greeted warmly at reception, ushered to a private table on the balcony and offered two glasses of complimentary champagne. The menu featured local specialties (buffalo rib eye and elk medallions) , prepared well and without excessive frills or heaping portions. Definitely a positive experience."

  • "At our request we were seated at a window with a lovely view. The brie and fruit appetizer was superb. The entrée was excellent (one was shrimp and filet kabob, the other was baby back ribs). We enjoyed the ambiance of the lovely log restaurant, the outstanding service, and have very fond memories of our evening."

  • "We were visiting the area for a long weekend, and were looking for something different for a nice birthday dinner for two. We had the brie appetizer, which had great flavor, but was not warm enough. I asked the waitress questions about steak size, and she had to lookup sizes. I asked for a recommendation between two options, she said she doesn't like beef, so go with buffalo ( more expensive by $12). I expected her to tell me what she's heard from customers for the options I was choosing between. I hada buffalo filet. It was HUGE. So don't go without an appetite. The buffalo was cooked fine, but the sauce was very bland. My bf had steak and lobster tail. He loved the lobster, but thought the steak was very typical."

  • "A lovely rustic lodge setting with better than average food 3.5 rating. Great waiter, Glen, and excellent appetizer for two."

  • "Great ambiance, mediocre food. Trout fillet had many bones. Sauce on buffalo steak not very good. Dessert of chocolate mousse excellent, which was complementary after the issue with bone-in trout. waiter attentive. Have enjoyed meals here previously- but not this meal."

  • "We had a wonderful family gathering. The McGregor filet was a unique mix of flavors. The green chili/cheese mashed potatoes were wonderful. Even the kids Mac and cheese was gourmet. We have dined at twin owls several times and we have never been disappointed."

  • "Booked on open table. Incl the fact that wife has severe garlic allergy. When we got there and ordered a bottle of wine. We were then informed after checking with chef that there was nothing that could be served without garlic. We left."

  • "Food was excellent. Constantine was great waiter, I would ask for him! We had app sampler for 2 to start and the 5 of us shared so we would have plenty if room. French onion soup was awesome and I highly recommend it. Steaks were all cooked perfectly and seasoned well. Creme brûlée was excellent. We were even lucky enough to have to huge elk grasing at the front drive of the restaurant. Can't ask for a better steak place in Estes park!"

  • "Highly recommended. The Elk Medallions were a perfect start, followed by the 4x4 (filet and lobster tail) and finally chocolate mousse cake. The ambience is great - live classical guitar performance and the room easily absorbs the music and noise of conversation so it is easy to carry on intimate conversation."

  • "We are skeptical at best of the restaurants in Estes Park so we were delighted to find this place. Beautiful grounds at sunset, amazing hor'derves Excellent entrees and more than we could possibly eat. This place is pricey but worth it. Super busy so make sure you make a reservation. Our bartender was great while we waited for our table."

  • "The ambience was lovely and the service was friendly and attentive, although not very professional. Unfortunately, the filet mignon I ordered had an odd texture and was overwhelmed by the balsamic vinegar reduction sauce, which was way too acidic and tasted just like balsamic vinegar right out of the bottle. Although I typically like my vegetables to be prepared "al dente", the vegetable medley that accompanied my filet was under-cooked and served lukewarm. It was barely edible. The roasted potatoes were also disappointing. I'm usually much more complimentary of the restaurants I review, but I'm afraid the food at Twin Owls Steakhouse fell way short of my expectations."

  • "We had made reservations on-line and did not request a window table. There were lots of window tables available when we got there but they were held open for other diners even after we requested a window table when seated. The hostess did not make me feel welcome and I felt like we were bothering her. The food was great and the service was awesome."

  • "We were so excited about a romantic dinner here. Salad was excellent and enjoyable; however, half way through, our entrees arrived and the meal went south. They were not delivered by our server (possibly an expediter?) and the options were to leave them at the table or put them under the heat lamp for awhile. This was definitely not acceptable, so we requested new entrees be prepared and delivered more timely. The trout was delicious, but the ribeye with caramelized onions and mushrooms was sweet and did not meet expectations. However, our server was most apologetic and comped a dessert. If not for her, our experience would have been definitely worse."

  • "We spent our 10 year wedding anniversary at the Twin Owls and couldn't have had a better experience. The menu was a perfect balance of local and traditional steakhouse specialties. There was even an app for 2 that included elk medallions that were out of this world. Twin Owls is a must-do if you're ever in Estes Park! Great location, 5 miles from the Stanley Hotel"

  • "We asked our hotel what he would recommend for a nice dinner and he told us that Twin Owls was a great place to have dinner! My husband and daughter joined me and we had a very pleasant evening. The service was great, really liked our server! I would for sure recommend Twin Oaks to anyone."

  • "We tried the elk entree, which was both excellent and large. The duck sous vide was great. Lamb was fine. Our server was knowledgeable and helpful. Decent desserts."

  • "Seeing a few negative reviews before our visit was a concern, but we were very pleased with our visit. Staff was friendly and the dining room had the warm lodge feel we'd hoped for with nice mounain views. The restaurant was full of diners, but they didn't place tables so close together that you felt crowded. I had the elk medalions, served with a very nice assortment of vergetables and roasted sweet potatoes. The elk was cooked exactly as ordered and the sides tasted and were presented like the chef really knew what he was doing. Certainly not assembly line doling out of food. My dining companion had the grilled chicken served with wild rice and grilled vegetables, also prepared wonderfully. The generous portions forced a pass on dessert."

  • "You don't go to Estes Park for the food. The location of the restaurant is lovely. But that's where the good stuff ends. The filet is advertised as having a bernaise sauce. Bernaise sauce is not orange. This sauce tasted, at best, like a "just add water" sauce. Service was fine. For two of us, two nice entrees and a a total of 3 wines, the bill was $120.00. That was way too much for nothing special."

  • "The food and atmosphere was great. The Waitress was having a bad night I think. She was slow and had a bit of an attitude."

  • "Have been many times to this restaurant and it can be very good but it's inconsistent. This time was one of the bad times. I had roasted duck which consisted of two leg/thigh parts. Well duck is a moist meat anyway and then the leg/thigh are also moist. The chef must have cooked these things three days to get them as tough and as dry as they were. My son had a caprese salad that had green unripened tomatoes, not good. Needless to say I won't be back for a while and certainly wouldn't recommend it to others. Unfortunately Estes Park doesn't have a lot of good choices for dinner."

  • "The food was phenomenal and the atmosphere was great as well. The service from the very moment we arrived at the restaurant, our time in the bar area, and in the dining room were top notch. This is our favorite restaurant in the Estes area and we look forward to returning again!"

  • " We waited an hour for our first plate. It arrived ice cold with limped vegetable, and very dry looking potatoes. We told the waitress and she immediately took them back. In 5 minutes new plates arrived with steam coming from the steak, veggies and potatoes and the plate was so hot you couldn't touch it. It was obvious they put the entire plate in a microwave. The steak was grey, rubbery and chewing. We again told the waitress. She said we should order the filet. We did and waited another 25 minutes it came hot but potatoes were charred burnt, veggies over steamed, limped, tasteless. The filet had no flavor. We waited for the manager but she blew us off and we paid a bill over $100 for horrible food that took two hours to receive."

  • "It could have been a very special time. I have been wanting to come here for years. My daughter and I were on a rare get away, just the two of us. She ordered a steak and had it well done as she can not eat any pink meat. It was served the same as my elk: medium rare! She had to send it back and was not offered any type of compensation at all...I don't think we were expecting anything in particular, but more of an acknowledgement than "I am sorry, but I don't cook the food" from the waitress did not seem like enough, because it was kind of a big deal. Any offering would have been more than appreciated."

  • "What a beautiful setting with outstanding food. My fillet was fork-tender - one of the best steaks I have ever had, anywhere. The wine, the service and especially the setting in the mountains were all fabulous."

  • "We were looking forward to quality food, great service and a nice atmosphere. We did get somewhat of a nice atmosphere if you count the decor and not the server's unprofessionalism. We had high expectations for the New York Strip and Buffalo Ribeye - both were average meat quality. The strip had a little flavor, the ribeye suffered from a lack of seasoning and was a very, very thin ribeye. Very average food quality which didn't meet our expectations, or the price point of the meal. There are many, many restaurants to choose from in Estes Park. After the meal we were disappointed that we didn't choose a different restaurant since we had a limited time in Estes Park we could have had a chance for a better experience somewhere else."
