Diner Reviews
  • "Average to poor food quality and an argumentative server made for a disappointing birthday evening. As local residents, we are sorry to see this happening to a favorite over many years."

  • "I enjoyed the food and the ambiance, our waitress seemed a little flustered as it seemed she had multiple tables sat at the same time. Other than that I would definitely return"

  • "Excellent food and atmosphere. The restaurant is gorgeous and the ambience is perfect. Twin Owls is tucked in what feels like a cabin in the woods but once inside it is simply decorated beautifully without taking away the charm of the building itself. The best filet steak I've ever had. Absolutely recommend to anyone."

  • "Food was fantastic, my fav was the stuffed mushrooms on the appetizer. I requested a romantic table with a view and they definitely followed through on that. Only thing was the server didn't speak English well enough to be effective. Also, we had an 8:30 reservation which apparently in Estes Park is late because we were the last ones in the door and by the time we were done with our meals they seemed in such a hurry to shut down that the server brought the check to the table without even offering dessert. Other than that is was great, the classical guitar player in the dining also was a nice touch and made it....until he even quit at 9."

  • "Love this place we were celebrating our 2 year anniversary. We had our wedding reception at the Twin Owls as well. The food and service were amazing. Look forward to going back for years to come."

  • "Excellent/ Our last time it wasn't so good: this time fabulous! The scallop app was terrific!"

  • "Prime rib a little tough and Filet was over cooked."

  • "The food is always wonderful! They were really busy which made the service slow, but the entire restaurant went from empty to full in the time we were there so that is understandable. Even with the kitchen presumably backed up, the food was still cooked perfectly!"

  • "Requested a table by the fireplace and informed the restaurant of our anniversary. Our seating request was honored and we received complimentary campaign upon arrival. Short ribs were outstanding and a quite large portion. Husband's bison steak was ordered medium but arrived rare. Staff immediately returned to kitchen and brought back shortly at correct doneness. Waitress was very pleasant. Best part of the meal were the Elk Medallions which were simply superb!! Would highly reccomend."

  • "Knowing that it was our late honeymoon they put us up at a semi-secluded table on the upper floor. Service was wonderful with the perfect amount of checking on us without bother or forgetting about us. Best French Onion soup my wife and I had ever had. Elk Medallions are awesome and cooked exactly as ordered! I had the special of Wild Boar ribs which were as good as any ribs I've ever had and the meat just came off the bones. At the end they brought a tray of the deserts around, so we were able to see what we were getting...we picked the 3 samplers (Bread Pudding, Creme Brulee, and a chocolate brownie) and got their chocolate pie/cake to go! Plan to return every year we make it to Estes Park!"

  • "Overall my wife & I found the restaurant good but not great. The atmosphere was rustic (it is a mountain resort after all) yet pleasant & inviting. The service was very good but the food was mediocre at best (even more disappointing give the price point - cheap this place ain't!). My wife's steak was a bit overcooked and mine under; they weren't the best cuts of meat but again passable. For dessert we chose the sampler. Of the choices, only the crème brulee was good - the others too sweet, too gummy & lackluster. They have a decent wine selection and the bar was very good. In the end, just didn't meet our expectations."

  • "This was our first visit. The soups were very good, French Onion and Southwestern Beef Tip. We enjoyed the bread and seasoned dipping oil. We both had the prime rib - was too tough to be really good so that was disappointing. For $25 each, a prime rib should be PRIME and this wasn't. The chocolate mousse cake was very good, the crème brulee was not as good as I hoped - was too thick and not the egg/custardy recipe that is really wonderful. We will try again and order different things - not giving up yet. Birthday dessert was complimentary which I really appreciated. Service was very good."

  • "We go to the Twin Owls every year for our anniversary. They recognized our anniversary and gave us complimentary champagne. A very nice gesture. Our waitress was fantastic and very attentive. Our steaks were top notch and fixed just the way we like them. We couldn't have had a better evening. Love the rustic log cabin ambiance!"

  • "The meat dishes were good. I had the Elk Medallions which were very good and perfectly cooked. The veg and pureed sweet potatoes were not appealing whatsoever. The presentation was clumsy and overdone. My wife had the filet mignon; it was drown in sauce and blue cheese which took away from the flavor of the cut. Desert trio was okay, nothing to write home about. The brownie was cold. The bread pudding was excellent, and the creme brule was standard and good. Wine was good and Val was a great waiter. In all, not a good value for the price paid."

  • "I put out the call to all friends to tell me a 'good' restaurant in Estes Park. We have been going up there for 15 years and have yet to find a restaurant that is worth going back to. Well, I can't say this anymore! I knew there much be a hidden gem somewhere I didn't know about and Twin Owls is it! The foot was amazing. I ordered the Ribeye and it was cooked perfectly! One of the best steaks I have ever had. My husband got the prime rib and he loved it as well. The french onion soup & appetizer for two where equally as amazing. We got a bottle of wine that was recommended as a good pairing with my ribeye and I was very happy with it! Our waitress was friendly, knowledgeable and very attentive. We will definitely be going back."

  • "The Twin Owls restaurant is only open Friday-Sunday in the winter, and as we arrived in town on Sunday, we felt lucky to have dinner reservations that night. We enjoyed the log cabin and crackling-fire-in-the-fireplace atmosphere on a cold winter night. Our dinners were delicious and the service was friendly and perfectly attentive. Would definitely recommend."

  • "Amazing building; great lodge room with huge fireplace. Perfect for that mountain experience. Great food; have had the steak, elk, salmon, duck . . . you really can't go wrong. I think it's the best steak in town. We go there every visit to Estes!"

  • "We dined next to a lady from Boston who mistakenly thought we were interested in her conversation. Not a fault of Twin Owls although a quaint log house environment does not mean overly quiet by its very nature. Overall a really good dining experience. Our server was super! Food was very good, not unique but such is American casual fine dining."

  • "Waiter seemed very familiar with selections and made great recommendations. We started with bacon wrapped scallops ( 3 for $12) they were delicious. I had beet salad which was beets, blueberries, mandarin oranges, walnuts, feta and spinach. Dressing that came with it was tasteless but the salad eaten without the dressing was still very good. My husband ordered the elk tenderloins medium rare and they were just so. I ordered the scallops and they were very good. We were part of a party of 9 and our waiter never wrote anything down. When the orders came out, they were all correct which I thought was amazing. We would eat there again. Not so sure children would enjoy it."

  • "My wife and I were in Estes Park for a marriage retreat. For our "Date Night", we made reservations at the Twin Owls Steakhouse. Velera was our server. He made great recommendations with wine pairings. We split the Scallops with bacon, House salad and our entree was the Steak MacGreagor. It was topped with a balsamic vinaigrette sauce, with blue cheese crumbles and pistachios. So tender, we were able to cut it with a butter knife. Even with splitting of the food, there was plenty for both of us. The atmosphere was quiet, even though there were a number of other couples and a party of at least eight. The log walls, plank floors, large fireplace and windows only added to the ambiance."

  • "We drove an hour to Twin Owls just because they make the best steaks of any restaurant we've ever been to. It doesn't matter which steak you order, it will be amazing! Their service is also unbeatable. We will be back, and soon!"

  • "Food was incredible, the prices are modest (total tab for two, with wine, was $75 w tip). Only distraction was a wedding party in the next room. Although they were reasonable and not out of line by any means, our proximity to them was a negative. The food and service was wonderful, as it has been each time I've dined there. Highly recommend."

  • "I was so excited to come here for my anniversary! The service was amazing! We got the appetizer for 2 and it was beyond amazing! Then I had gotten the Filet McGregor and I had taken my first bite and I didn't like it, the raspberry purée was really bitter and it was not appetizing at all. But I will be coming back but I will try something else for sure"

  • "Our Hotel host at Appenzell Inn recommended this restaurant to us when we asked for a good steakhouse. She said the view was beautiful, food was very good, and the price was reasonable. She was right on all accounts. We will definitely return!"

  • "We have had both bad and good experiences for dinner at Twin Owls. This latest trip was a good one, though. It was earlier in the evening so it was quiet and we had a choice of tables. So overall it was a very nice experience."

  • "Celebrated our anniversary with a wonderful dinner. When scheduling our reservation thru OpenTable I mentioned our anniversary and requested a table right next to the fireplace. They seated us right in front and acknowledged our anniversary and brought us a complimentary glass of champaign. The food was great!"

  • "We dined at Twin Owls as part of our Valentines Day weekend getaway to Estes Park. We enjoyed the bacon wrapped scallops, some delicious steaks, and very well-paired wine. The only reason that I didn't give 5 stars on the food was because we felt the steaks had been slightly over-buttered. However, they were cooked to perfection (not all steak houses get medium-rare right) and everything else was absolutely delicious."

  • "I made reservations based on the reviews I had read online. I was extremely pleased with the quality of the food and the ambiance and the reasonable prices. Everything on the menu was about $30 or less. I had roast duck with Bing Cherry sauce. My first experience with duck and it was amazing. My date's steak was delicious. The triple dessert was to die for and the wine selection was reasonable. Great for a special occasion or just for a romantic dinner. Give it a try. You will not be disappointed."

  • "It was the worst service and food we have ever had we would of had better food at the Texas roadhouse. It was awful and very expensive for poor quality food"

  • "The lodge is warm and inviting but the perimeter tables are a bit dark. The elk medallions were excellent but the prime rib was a little lacking in flavor. I have noticed over the years that no matter how you order your meat there it seems to come out medium rare or rare, which I love but my wife does not. They are used to serving game, like elk, which does much better on the rare side. They did a pretty good job on a busy holiday weekend."

  • "My steak was a little overcooked (I asked for med. well and ended up with a well done steak). That being said, I loved my experience."

  • "I wanted to love this place. The waitstaff with one exception was hurried and newly trained. The food just lacked pizzazz. My husband had the braised short ribs which were cooked too fast as they were tough and charred on the outside. My beef kebabs were similarly overdone and the sauce was bland. Our trio appetizer lacked as well. One highlight was the elk tenderloin - Exceptional!! I think with a little more attention the food could be transformed."

  • "My wife and I have been going to the Twin Owls Steakhouse for years on special occasions and weekend getaways to Estes Park. The food has always been top - notch and the wait staff are kind, friendly and attentive. In the two dozen or more times we have gone to Twin Owls in the last 8 or so years, we have never been disappointed and we will continue to go here whenever we go to Estes."
