What made the evening, though, was the attentive service. We weren't rushed and as a result, we ended up staying for three hours. And then we capped off our night in their bar area where it was pretty lively for a not so exciting Saturday night. The food was amazing, the service was delightful and the decor is beautiful. Our food was piping hot. We took pictures and you could actually see the steam rising from the plates.There is something for everyone on the menu including amazing vegetarians (if you still eat fish/seafood) and perhaps options for even the pickiest eaters. Great location for a first date, or quiet drinks at the bar during the week. Located conveniently close to the Mc Phereson Square Metro. Vast variety of selections on the wine list. Be sure to try the almond cake. Its life changing! We almost canceled our reservation but I am glad we didn't. Overall we had a very nice experience. The food was good and the service was excellent and appropriately attentive. Our visit was during the Cherry Blossom Festival week which is a very busy time of the year. Despite this our waiter did a very nice job. We also attended during a Sat opera night. Unlike a previous reviewer we enjoy opera and found this to be a delightful treat. For those that do not I suggest you avoid Sat as the performers certainly make themselves heard. I had an excellent seafood ravioli, husband had salmon, daughter had pizza. All very well made. This particular night they also had some opera singers for entertainment. Too cold for outside but a big patio overlooking beautiful park will be wonderful in warm weather. Very good! Plus, there were a lot of families with kids, not my scenario of choice when dining out. After drinks, my wife ordered the mussels and I had the pasta fagioli soup. The soup was good, but the portion of mussels was a bit on the small side compared to the many places where we have had them before. For entrees, my wife had the lambchops and I had a fresh pasta dish with mushrooms. Both of us enjoyed our selections very much.
If I had a complaint, it would be that the service is not very personal and can lack efficiency. The location being so close to McPherson Square made it easy to get on Metro after dinner to go to the Kennedy Center. My husband had veal and I had pasta. We both had salads and we got dessert as it was my birthday dinner. The service was attentive and the food delicious. We thought the portion size was just right. The piano player started when we were partially through our meals. After having walked past Tuscana West for years, I was glad that I finally went in to eat there. The free appetizer bread was a bit disappointing and although service was a little slow at the start, once the salad service began, everything was smooth. My $19 ravioli meal (chicken with veggies in herbs and butter sage sauce) was divine but only came with four on a plate. That's almost $5 per ravioli. Just saying. The panacotta dessert was dreamy. Live piano player who is amazing and plays lots of recent top 40 hits. We walked past him and saw that he didn't even have sheet music! I was very impressed. The service was amazing. The guy who was coming back to refill our water glasses was there maybe every 15 minutes. My glass was not empty one time. The food was well cooked and very well presented. I definitely recommend you stick around for desserts as they were the best part of our meal! My husband tried the lobster bisque soup and said it was the most heavenly soup he had ever tasted. This place is wonderful for a nice romantic date with your significant other and a quick walk away from the Mcpherson Square Metro stop.
