Diner Reviews
  • "My wife and another couple went eat dinner the night before the Rock & Roll Marathon. We booked with open table, which was a good thing. As we watched many folks walk up only to be told there would be a wait without reservations. We were met by the chef at the door. A robust Italian who made us feel like we were long lost family. He came by and had a real conversation with us, more than the normal "Hope everything is good" and move on. The Ahi special was great, very tender and lightly grilled to perfection. The chef's lasagna was also very good. Our waiter made and excellent wine suggestion. All in all a great relaxing dinner before a big run."

  • "My hubby and i wanted a good spot to carb up for the Raleigh Rock and Roll and came across this gem because to our surprise they were not busy. I can't imagine why. The food was so delicious and not expensive for downtown Raleigh. If you are looking for another option to places like Gravy or 518 West you will not be disappointed. Only regret is not having gone here sooner!"

  • "I ate here for the first time this past weekend. It was a wonderful experience. The food was delicious, the staff was friendly and very attentive. I love the location and the atmosphere. I can't say enough good things about this place. You will not be disappointed."

  • "We have dined at Tuscan Blu several time but on Friday the kitchen must have changed or something. The food was mediocre at best. The 3 out of 8 dishes I tasted were not seasoned at all, Unfortunately it was a disappointment for us entertaining guests from out of town to bring them to a restaurant we raved about before. To top it all off - one of us didn't get what we had ordered and his meal did not come out until 10 minutes later without an apology or anything. We will give Tuscan Blu another chance but will be shopping for another Italian restaurant just in case it is a new trend of mediocre tasting food."

  • "The food at Tuscan Blu is absolutely delicious. Every person in our party enjoyed their meal. As for the service, the servers were very nice, just very slow. We were a large group but nearly the only people in the restaurant and we all waited with empty glasses and waiting plates. At least the food was worth the wait...."

  • "The place was emptserviceSaturday...but it was more intimate. The food and atmosphere was very nice. The only thing that really upset me was how the owner was rude to us by not acknowleding us when taking something from our table. He spoke to the other two tables that were there. There were only 3 tables, including us. Would have left if the food wasn't so good!"

  • "We dined as a family of five, including two teenagers. We were all very happy with our meals including salads, entrees, desserts and the house Chianti. The menu had a great variety of choices including pastas, vegetarian and gluten free options. Although we did not try the daily specials, they sounded great as well! Service was very good and wait staff was quite courteous. We dined on a Wednesday night and the restaurant was fairly slow that night, which surprised us. The dining atmosphere was very pleasant and comfortable. We will certainly recommend Tuscan Blu to family and friends. We arrived from out of town and although it is located in the old train depot in a very artsy area, it was very easy to get to the restaurant."

  • "I have been to Tuscan Blu many times and each time the food just gets better. Having a family right out of Italy, I can tell you they are true Italians! They cooks with love! This is great for a date night or brunch with the family. It is a must try!"

  • "We had made a reservation for Tuscan Blu and arrived less than 5 minutes after our reservation time. The waiter was nice as we chatted with him throughout our dinner. The food was great, but what happened next was unbelievable and rude. We finished dinner in an hour and as the waiter brought our check he informed us that we needed to move along because they needed the table. I was so shocked I couldn't reply. We had not asked to just sit and finish our wine nor had we asked for coffee or dessert. When he returned with our credit card and receipt, once again he reminded us that we needed to hurry and leave as they needed our table. We will never go back and I recommend that you don't go either."

  • "Great Italian food and ambiance in downtown, Raleigh, NC, the owner / chef and his wife Patricia, the hostess, are always on site to greet you. There are several tables on the outside, front porch, plus many more inside in a warehouse setting with an elegant feel. Soft lighting, plus European inspired soft music, set the mood nicely. The front window faces West and yields nice sunsets. The food at Tuscan Blu is consistently delicious and the menu has plenty of variation ( pastas, meats, sea foods, etc. ) plus occasional Specials. The house salad is especially fresh and sets up the dinners nicely. The service here is personal and attentive. Finally, the prices are quite modest for such a fine establishment in a downtown location."

  • "Tuscan Blu was our post Valentines Day stop for Sat Feb 15 and it didn't disappoint, matter of fact, it blew us away..We booked via Open Table, arrived late (OUR FAULT) and had to wait 20 mins for another table to open & we were fine with that..Enjoyed, apps, salads and great entrees, then went over board with tasty desserts..we cant wait to go back..Don't miss this Italian GEM"

  • "I made reservations for Valentine's Day and still waited 10 minutes. Wait staff was slow also. Food was excellent and appeared to me a happening place."

  • "My husband and I dined here for Valentine's weekend and we really enjoyed ourselves! We both had Tuscan salads, which were good - nice portions with artichoke hearts, olives, cheese....Then he had the spaghetti with crabmeat and he loved it! nice and sweet, just like his mom's! I had Salmon and it was cooked perfectly with a nice crispy crust on the outside and nice and moist on the inside. This was served with spinach sauteed in garlic and olive oil - yum! We will definitely return to this restaurant!"

  • "As part of a group of six, I really enjoyed eating at Tuscan Blu. We had a reservation but arrived a good bit earlier. They were able to accommodate us with no fuss. The food was delicious and served promptly. I had a lasagna -- their own recipe, been in the family for a long time -- and it was excellent. Wait staff was friendly and professional. Nice people."

  • "We went here for a date night, and the food was great. My husband got the lasagna, and loved it, said it was the best he's had in Raleigh. The prices are really great and the food is authentic Italian food. The owner and his wife were both there, and from talking with others who have been here, they typically are there. We really enjoyed our dinner, and will be returning again soon."

  • "I love how this place has a ton of vegetarian options. Usually, my wife has to hunt for the one token veggie option, but not here--there were all kinds of dishes with a variety of creative flavors, all meatless. I personally got the Pesto shrimp fettuccini, and it was outstanding. Food came out so fast I thought we had wandered into a Mexican restaurant--very quick! Parking was a bit of a challenge, but the food was totally worth it. This was our first time here, and we'll definitely be back!"

  • "(First visit) Valentines day - so glad for reservation with little lead time! Food was a bit disappointing - chicken w/veggie dish: blackened and salt seasoning was so heavy it overpowered. will try again - when not so busy."

  • "Service was robotic... Food was not bad. It was valentines day, and they probably could have done something to make it a little more special."

  • "This restaurant is very pleasant and the food is good. There were a couple of odd things. They seemed to be breaking a few new staffpersons who did not know the table numbers and our water was refilled with overzealous attention. The quarters for the Valentine's night tables-for-two were close, such that the man at the neighboring table wanted to strike up a conversation. Our food was good which is why I recommend the restaurant. I asked for my steak medium rare and it was served rare. I sent it back and they cooked me a new steak just right. The atmosphere is vibrant and the building is beautiful. All in all, this is a good place for a date. Enjoy!"

  • "I took my wife to Tuscan Blu for a date night (which happened to fall on Valentine's Day). We were greeted warmly at the door and taken to our table (which we were asked if it was suitable for us). From that point on the service was continuous without being intrusive. The ambience reminded me of restaurants I dined in while living in Europe for 5 years. The food was excellent starting with the appetizers all the way through to dessert. The chef came and asked us how our meal was, and he went to each table while we were there. We will definitely return."

  • "Why did I not know about this place? We went during Restaurant Week and liked it a lot, so we returned for Valentine's. Great food. Some good wine choices. Only issue I had was with the calamari (just not good at all) and the owner came to talk to us about it. I was pleased but felt he could have comp'ed that appetizer. But that was just one little nit out of two otherwise great dinners there."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "It was a special set up for Valentines day, so they were very short staffed and the tables were closer together than usual. The food was pretty good. Calimari nice, bread was nothing special to poor, the pink sauce was tasty, and the chicken parm was about average. Affordable wine by the glass. I would try it again on a less busy night."

  • "To be fair, we went for dinner on Valentine's day, so this may explain *some* of the issues. First, the bread rolls were warm and the olive oil was very good. At the recommendation of the waiter, we ordered the Malbec wine. It was bitter and completely undrinkable. (We are not wine snobs. The bottle was bad.) We had the tuna appetizer. It was seasoned well, but the meat was stringy. Entrees were OK. I had pasta with chicken. Sauce was good, chicken was dry. Finally, we ordered dessert (cheesecake). It took 20+ minutes to arrive. Overall, the service was really bad - slow and unattentive. In fact, the waiter walked right by our table *several times* to check on the two young ladies eating next to us while we waited for each course."

  • "Tuscan Blu has a very warm and friendly atmosphere with fantastic food. The menu is not overly complicated, sticking to some key dishes that are done very well. The presentation of the food was simple and elegant, complimented by a robust wine list and topped off with fantastic desserts. What put everything over the top though was the extremely friendly staff. The owner comes out to meet with customers and see how their food is, which was just great. On the way out the door we were thanked by the wait staff, the hostess, the owner, and the manager! The entire staff was genuinely grateful to have had us eat there and that made me want to go back immediately. All in all a wonderful experience."

  • "We were only table in restaurant for our meal. Three wait staff that either are incompetent or have no clue what service means. Had to summon to order, had to summon for extra bread, had to summon for beverage refills, apertizer order lost and did not receive. Unsweetened tea was refilled with sweet. Entrees delivered to table by server that could not identify dishes or knew who got what."

  • "Enjoyed the small coziness of the way the restaurant was set up. The eggplant parmesan & the scallop pasta dishes were great! Would like to go back & try other items on the menu especially some of the desserts. Service could have been faster, however everyone was warm and friendly. It seems they were training a new employee & a very large party came in just ahead of us thus slowing down the service that we received. I would recommend small groups when eating here. I will come again."

  • "Nice ambience, funky warehouse feel. Upscale feel. We ate here during Restaurant Week and loved the fixed price 3-course meal. We're always looking for places serving full menus late night on weekends, as I get off work at 10 p.m. This place is on our list now!"

  • "Having recently spent a month in Italy, I have been hesitant to eat at an Italian restaurant because the food there was so delicious. After dining at Tuscan Blu though, my hesitancy has abated. The food was incredible -- fresh, flavorful and prepared to perfection. Even though we dined there on one of the nights of the Raleigh Downtown Dining Week, our service provided by Kevin was excellent (and he was very busy). I look forward to dining there again soon."

  • "We went during Restaurant Week and the service was not good. We waited more than 30 minutes for our open table reservation seating. They were out of some of the food choices and the server was slow and ignored us. The food we did have was excellent. There were good wine and beer selections and all was reasonably priced. The hostess and chef were friendly and did their best."

  • "Great food, friendly staff...restaurant week...we arrived 5 min late to our 7:15 reservation to find out our name wasn't even on the list! The hostess who I assumed was also the owner showed us to the bar while she got a table prepared for us. We ordered the Bufala mozzarella appetizer, Caesar salad, lobster ravioli, and linguini with crabmeat. (We love seafood!!) The food was amazing and came out very quickly. We had an overall tasty experience and will definitely be back!!"
