A word from Turtle Club
In 1796, the Hoboken Turtle Club was founded and became the first organized social club in American History.

Founded by Col. John Stevens, early membership included Alexander Hamilton, Aaron Burr and John Jay. The first official meeting of the Turtle Club took place at what is now Sybil’s Cave.

‘It must first be premised that this is no ordinary club, from the day of its foundation it has existed for but one thing, the principal of epicurean pleasure’
- Col. Stevens.

Today we have re-established and reclaimed their motto of old:

‘As we journey through life, let us live by the way’

  • "Loved my experience at Turtle Club. I dined with 4 other guests and sat at the tall tables they have in the dining area. The ambience is rustic but cool with wine cases lining the dining room. Great place for a group. The food was good, but nothing outstanding. They have an extensive wine menu and bargain happy hour with quite decent wines at $5 a glass. It is a great place for a casual dining experience. Definitely plan on going back."

  • "I walked past the restaurant and it looked interesting, so I visited the website. The backstory is that the original club provided epicurean pleasures for influential men like Alexander Hamilton and John Jay. The menu looked decent so I booked a table. The reality was much different. The food was neither fantastic nor unacceptable, and the craft cocktails were pretty good. The crowd was young and loud. Our service was fair to poor. That said, the place was packed, so their customer base is apparently satisfied. It just wasn't the experience that I was expecting."

  • "All of the bruschettas were delicious. I had the chorizo and shrimp on crostini as my meal and it was more than enough and also more than delicious. The others had the churrasco and chicken milanase (which is grilled instead of breaded) and both were well received. Definitely limited seating so make a res!"

  • "My husband and I decided on an early dinner to avoid crowds and noise. We chose this restaurant because we had a pleasant time there on another occasion, but found it a bit loud due to the bar crowd in our room. The restaurant has two bars, and two dining areas. This time the sound level was perfect, and the dinner was good. My only objection was that the martinis we ordered looked a little cloudy, and came in a non-martini glass. However, they tasted fine. I order a glass of wine with dinner, and that was very good, even though it was just the house pinot grigio. My husband had the Argentinian steak, and I had the talapia, both of which were very good. The cheesecake desert and coffees finished a nice meal."
