A word from Turtle Club
In 1796, the Hoboken Turtle Club was founded and became the first organized social club in American History.

Founded by Col. John Stevens, early membership included Alexander Hamilton, Aaron Burr and John Jay. The first official meeting of the Turtle Club took place at what is now Sybil’s Cave.

‘It must first be premised that this is no ordinary club, from the day of its foundation it has existed for but one thing, the principal of epicurean pleasure’
- Col. Stevens.

Today we have re-established and reclaimed their motto of old:

‘As we journey through life, let us live by the way’

This place is awful.. It bills as a fine eating establishment. It isnt though, Its a bar with food. There is nothing wrong with that of course, but its a bar with bad food. Generally everything we got was like something that had been prepared by a 7 year old I am giving it A star as they served alcohol. There has to be somewhere ebtter to eat in Hoboken than this. Give it a wide berth

We usually go to Amanda's for a nice dinner, but wanted to try "Turtle Club" as it has almost the same rating as Amanda's. These two are really not in the same category. Not at all. Food was fair. Cocktails were good and service was impeccable & attentive. Unfortunately, at the end of the day, it is the food that counts. Two of us ordered steaks and it was just OK. I ordered stuffed Mahi-Mahi and when I complained that it was a dry, I was told: "Maybe it's because it's actually Tilapia";What ?? I wish I knew when I ordered. They only have 9 items as entrees, how hard is it to have all ingredients for only 9 entrees? We didn't have more luck with dessert. We ordered Chocolate lava cake, the server came back "we are out". End of evening.

Loved my experience at Turtle Club. I dined with 4 other guests and sat at the tall tables they have in the dining area. The ambience is rustic but cool with wine cases lining the dining room. Great place for a group. The food was good, but nothing outstanding. They have an extensive wine menu and bargain happy hour with quite decent wines at $5 a glass. It is a great place for a casual dining experience. Definitely plan on going back.

All of the bruschettas were delicious. I had the chorizo and shrimp on crostini as my meal and it was more than enough and also more than delicious. The others had the churrasco and chicken milanase (which is grilled instead of breaded) and both were well received. Definitely limited seating so make a res!

I walked past the restaurant and it looked interesting, so I visited the website. The backstory is that the original club provided epicurean pleasures for influential men like Alexander Hamilton and John Jay. The menu looked decent so I booked a table. The reality was much different. The food was neither fantastic nor unacceptable, and the craft cocktails were pretty good. The crowd was young and loud. Our service was fair to poor. That said, the place was packed, so their customer base is apparently satisfied. It just wasn't the experience that I was expecting.

My husband and I decided on an early dinner to avoid crowds and noise. We chose this restaurant because we had a pleasant time there on another occasion, but found it a bit loud due to the bar crowd in our room. The restaurant has two bars, and two dining areas. This time the sound level was perfect, and the dinner was good. My only objection was that the martinis we ordered looked a little cloudy, and came in a non-martini glass. However, they tasted fine. I order a glass of wine with dinner, and that was very good, even though it was just the house pinot grigio. My husband had the Argentinian steak, and I had the talapia, both of which were very good. The cheesecake desert and coffees finished a nice meal.

My wife and I visited here on a Friday night. They had a great cocktail special and wine list we enjoyed. Food was delicious but a little pricey. The restaurant got busy but service couldn't quite keep up. I'd recommend more staff or switching to any available server service. We would have stayed longer but took too long to get our drinks. Otherwise great spot and lots of fun. Nice history behind the place too!

The good: The service was probably the best part of my experience (friendly waitress, seated immediately); the ambience was nice too (quaint brick walls, very nice outdoor table-with-benches seating), perfect for a summer evening. The bad: Cocktails ($11 each) were terrible. The food that followed was awful as well - my friend had the tilapia which he said was so-so and I had the vegetarian panini which is to be avoided at all costs. The veggie panini is the only veggie item in the menu (other than the appetizers) so if you're a vegetarian, give the place a wide miss.

We went for restaurant week to The Turtle Club and it was a great choice. The good was great and we got a lot of value for the restaurant week price. They had happy hour deals on wine as well. They were out of my preferred appetizer and dessert but the other choices were delicious. I thought that the Parmesan crusted chicken was moist and crunchy with great flavor. I will definitely be going back.

3 dishes were very poor: 1.) bruschetta with tomato & basil had zero seasoning, no EVOO, and almost invisible basil; bruschetta with hummus looked and tasted like a butter-knife smear from an A&P generic brand; bruschetta with caramized onion was bland somehow. 2,) The chicken skewers were as dry as cardboard and not served with any sauce. 3.) The crab dip was grocery store bought. Beer was great. Food is hopeless.

My fiance and I came here for the BBQ and wine club. This is hands down the best BBQ in Hoboken. The ribs fall off the bone every time we order them and the brisket and pulled pork have an amazing flavor. We had the wine club with dinner which is a great way to learn about wines and the regions. We have had many other items from the menu and have never had a bad meal, enjoy!!

We had a drawn out Sunday dinner with a group. The bar area was separate from the dining area and it was not very crowded so we could talk and relax. We were very happy with our food and had fun with a tasting flight of wine. The menu had something for everyone in our varied group. The seats next to the windows were very cold, but it was a particularly cold night. We will definitely return.

We had a late lunch on a Saturday afternoon in the bar. It was a nice day and the place itself had an outdoor event going on. I had a Shandy beer on tap, it was very cold. That was the first positive for me. My hubby and I shared the shrimp skewers and hummus with veggies and pita bread. Everything exceeded my expectations and was fresh. The only negative was it took a good 15 minutes to actually get my beer order placed. I would highly recommend lunch and I will make a point of returning.

My friend order a salad, she literally got a plate of lettuce. Waiter never informed us that the kitchen was out of all other ingredients in the salad. This was a shock to us, esp since it was a Saturday. The presentation of the food was great, but the taste could've been better. It didn't seem like much love was given. Although the food was not terrible, I would not go back. I think it's a better place to get drinks and sit outside.
