Diner Reviews
  • "I had dinner with a friend who I had not seen in a while and we had a lot to catch up on! Our waiter was so respectful of our needing to "chat." AND, dinner was delicious!"

  • "Has become our 1st choice for dinner gatherings when in Salem, seafood delight"

  • "Living in Medford, I've been to the Melrose location many times. The Salem location is in a cool spot/building. The best for seafood. Way better than Fins. The only improvement would be if Turners was at the Fins location! Will go back for sure and will recommend it to others. A good place to take customers or have a special lunch with our department."

  • "Restaurant Manager, Paula, was very accommodating with our party. Bartender, Jill, very funny - great stories! She made us excellent drinks when we arrived. Mussels appetizer was small and just average tasting. Calamari appetizer was also average - good enough but nothing special. Salad was delicious with just the right amount of dressing. Swordfish special was cooked perfectly but bland in flavor. Garlic mushroom spinach was flavorful and delicious. We brought our own dessert - two small cakes to celebrate my mother's 85th birthday. Our waiter was helpful and wonderfully patient and calm. We appreciated his kindness and willingness to repeat everything to my mother who is hard of hearing."

  • "My husband and I recently learned that Turner's came to Salem as we had visited the Melrose location several times. Loved the atmosphere, food, and service. Surpassed our expectations. We are so happy you are in our neighborhood. We'll see you soon."

  • "Lovely staff great service. Friendly place... Very busy after work Nice set up Varied. Menus Sort of noisy when busy, it quieted down after the work group left.... The clam chowder was good... My linguini with clams in white sauce was not garlicky or creamy but sour and watery, edible but barely.... The coffee was cold when served Everyone else's meals were great... Prices were moderate, not expensive, portions substantial, and filling... I will give them a try again someday..."

  • "Had some colleagues in from out of town so we went to dinner at Turner's on a Tuesday night. It was busy enough to feel lively, but not overcrowded or too noisy. The group was not large, only 4 of us - we got a reservation for 6p, although not sure we needed it. Service was friendly and knowledgeable. Food was overall very good - although some meals were better than others. The pasta dishes were ok but not very exciting - but everything else was very good. Would definitely take colleagues here again."

  • "Why don't you have a simple "great for dinner" in part 2 of this survey? Turner's certainly is."
    Dined on 7/12/2014
  • "We made a reservation well ahead of time and I wouldn't try going without one, even when the tourists aren't in town. The fish is always fresh, the specials are very inventive. The bar produces gems!"

  • "Good food, but noisy and long wait with reservation."

  • "Found place on line and the menus were the big draw for us. My wife had the Finnan Haddie and I would recommend that as an alternative to the perceived necessity to have lobster in New England. Service was excellent and we would go again. Mid priced and comfortable ambience."

  • "To be far one of us had the halibut and said it was outstanding. Two of us had the swordfish. They asked ahead how thick it was and the waitress indicated about an inch and a half with her fingers. When it came it was two thin slices on top of one another, maybe a half inch each. Very disappointing. The baked stuffed shrimp was all stuffing, and thin shrimp. Will not be returning. Except for the location, Legal's has it over this by far."

  • "Took our out of town relatives to Turners. They stay with us each year and we have taken them all over for dinner. I am/was a regular at your restaurnat in Melrose. We took them Saturday night to Turners in Salem, Well now they are saying its their new favorite restaurant on the North Shore. Food was so good, salads so special. Seafood excellent. Clams to die for, chowder is amazing. They would have gone 2x if there was enough time."

  • "Have now been to Turners three times in Salem. Would say that the quality of food and the service was uneven. Will continue to go there but not when it is a special occasion or I am treating someone to a nice lunch/dinner."

  • "Great spot! Food was fantastic, we had a beautiful table by the window to people watch during cocktails. Service was timed perfectly to enjoy our evening. Looking forward to my return visit!"

  • "Turner's Seafood is our go-to restaurant for any special occasion, when entertaining guests, or whenever we need a reliably great meal. The service is always friendly and professional. The managers and greeters are always friendly and accommodating. We are blessed to have this great restaurant here in Salem!"

  • "Food was wonderful, completely spoiled by noise level. Had to shout to dining companion to be heard. Was told other side of the restaurant quieter, but I checked, am not convinced. Too bad, as food terrific and I would like to return, but won't."

  • "Great for just about anything. food is excellent.....just a tad loud for us "older" folks....Just great for ange group. From Brunch to Dinner to Late Night Drinks....Don't miss it. The fish is by far some of the best we have had. Always fresh.....Enjoy....."

  • "I really like the remodel; places is very attractive. The food was quite good. We all ordered fish and they were cooked well and tasty. Each was plated with sides. Noise level is quite high - difficult to hear at table of 4 and we were in a back room. Service was very slow. The bar was backed up so the wait for drinks was 10-15 minutes. Our waitress throughout the evening was not the most attentive. For instance, after dessert was served (which were delicious)and we were given the bill, we waited 15 minutes for her to swing around again to settle the bill. I would return again, perhaps sitting outside on their patio."

  • "Saturday night, 6:15p reservation, seated immediately. For my first visit here I had grilled swordfish and my friend had pistachio crusted halibut in a whiskey sauce. The swordfish was disappointingly tasteless. The halibut special, on the other hand, was deliciously tasty. Grilled asparagus accompanied both dishes, with Israeli couscous for me and parmesan mashed potatoes for her. We agreed the food was "nothing special" for the price, close to $100 for two, with one glass of wine and two cups of coffee. We split chocolate lava cake with vanilla ice cream for dessert. Again, nothing special. My friend and I agreed we might try it again one day for lunch, but not for dinner. Service was fine, ambience "meh.""

  • "We recently had dinner at Turner's in Salem. We were seated promptly as we made a reservation with Open Table. The wait staff was quite attentive without being obtrusive. At one point we were asked if we had any allergies. My husband is allergic to crab. When we were served the delicious clam chowder, the chef came over to our table and assured us that there would be no problem having the chowder. Mid-meal, the manager approached us and asked how everything was. The dinners were served and we enjoyed haddock piccata and salmon penne. Both were generous portions and very good."

  • "I've been eating at Turner's in Melrose for years. I'm a Marbleheader so it's great that now there's a Turner's closer to home. If you haven't tried the Portuguese fish stew you're in for a real treat-- I'd advise going for the extra mussels and clam, well worth the extra 4 bucks. Excellent bar, too."

  • "Food was average. Was crab month but not impressed with crab dish. Wanted crab cake with crab, not fillers. Lobster bisque with extra lobster got 6 small pieces in soup. Crab roll average. Service good. Tuna burger very good. Crab caprese salad good. Service and presentation great. Being from Florida I have heard so much about the seafood I may have over expectations. Haven't experienced anything in MA I can't get anywhere just as good."

  • "Above all, we loved the ambience of this restaurant. It was packed when we arrived--a mixed-age crowd of both locals and tourists in Salem. We were seated in a corner booth, and could talk easily despite the crowd...a perfect balance of energy and noise. Service was superb--great help from the wait staff, lots of attention to little details. We were not in the mood for a big seafood meal so chose linguine with clams and scampi sauce--a compose-your-own dish that turned out to be surprisingly inexpensive (under $10!). We watched oysters being shucked and plated at the raw bar...that would be the real reason to come here for most people. Bread basket: sage flavored brioche, just enough for 2 people. A terrific spot."

  • "Table was ready within 10 minutes of our reservation, but tables very close together not a lot of room, and restaurant very loud"
    Dined on 6/21/2014
  • "Food and service was very good. But the restaurant was very load - not a good place to have a good conversation with raising your voice every time. "Energetic" is putting it mildly. Might have something do with the tin ceilings."

  • "Great food, small but very good beer selection, excellent and very personable waitress. My wife and I will be back."

  • "We were seated immediately for a 6P.M. reservation. Our appetizers were served promptly and were delicious. (Oysters Rockefeller, Clams Casino). Entrees were served after an appropriate interval and were scrumptious. (Alaskan King Crab Legs, a special Halibut dish). Our waitress Cynthia was friendly, welcoming, and efficient. Prices are reasonable, drinks are great but pricey."

  • "On my 4th trip here, I was disappointed that the person taking us to the table gave us a hard time in switching tables because they didn't understand our physical needs. The server did take our drink order and gave us our appetizers but the chowder came at the same time as the rest of the appetizers leaving that person to decide which to take first. That wouldn't have been bad but once the appetizers were gone we had to look for the server and ask if she could take our dinner order. She completely forgot about that. Told her we wanted scallops with just a little bit of butter resulted in scallops being served in a dish where the scallops were swimming in a butter substance. Would have told her but she never checked back."

  • "Just ate dinner at Turner's last week. First time there. The food was excellent as was the service. We were however seated in a small room at the back of the restaurant. The noise level was VERY high. It was even hard to hear the waiter when he spoke to us. Would go back but make sure not to sit in that area."

  • "The oysters were terrific, the mussels were very tasty, the swordfish was fabulous, cooked just right, and there was some delicious cucumber aioli with it as well as green beans. Our group had a great time and all five of us thought the food was great and the wine was good as well. A really fun time with great food. The place was very crowded and quite loud in the room we were in though so it was a little tough to have a conversation."

  • "We went for lunch with 2 other couples and we're promptly seated. The waiter was very attentive. Most of us did get the salmon, but it was delicious and the crab and cod cakes also. My husband and I plan on going back."

  • "always delicious and always busy. we love this restaurant, but if i had one criticism it would be that although you can make a reservation on open table, they say they "don't take reservations" but call you to confirm and say you are on their "call ahead list". they...and their sister restaurant in melrose...brag that they try to seat you within 15 minutes of your call-ahead time. we were seated immediately because it was a sunday and it was father's day, but as wonderful as the food is, and as outstanding as our waitress (melissa) was, when i have a reservation, i want my table to be ready. what to order: salads with scallops on top; oysters; linguine with white clam sauce; tuna; baked stuffed or coconut shrimp. all delicious!"

  • "We went here for Fathers Day- there were seven of us. Service was excellent. Great waitress who accommodated a seafood allergy (the manager even comes out and serves the food with gloves). Great for GF/celiac folks as well. Food was fantastic and a good value. Great kids menu and fully equipped with games, crayons, etc. Thank you so much for such a great meal and experience. We will be back!"

  • "Well we tried again but sorry to say the food is not consistent so unfortunately we will not return and the host who seats people needs to have an attitude adjustment, however, the servers are very good."

  • "We went to Turner's to celebrate a birthday...no singing, no embarrassment, just the lovely dessert she ordered delivered with a single candle...perfect way to celebrate another year older, another year in denial! This was after a perfect meal."
