A word from Tulip Restaurant
Tulip aspires to introduce Turkish cuisine to the Milwaukee area.

It is housed in the old Gas Light Building in the historic Third Ward. The warm cream city brick walls, coupled with the red hues of the onyx bar make for an inviting and panache atmosphere. The menu entices you to indulge on Turkish delights, such as eggplant puree, fried cheese roll, lamb chops and shish kebabs. Freshly made pita bread and baklava are awaiting you. Accent your dining with an excellent choice of wines, Turkish beer and martinis. No meal can go unfinished without sampling the famous Turkish coffee or Tea.

  • Mother's Day Disappointment

    Dined on 5/11/2014
We made reservations on-line for Mother's Day. Our mistake was not calling to see if they would be serving off the menu. We were disappointed to learn that there was only a buffet, but decided to stay anyway. We arrived at noon and by then things looked picked over. We looked forward to a lamb dish that we had at Tulip before, but the only entrees were pre-sliced roast beef piled in an unappetizing heap, and baked cod looking as if it had been sitting there all morning. The buffet certainly did not meet the standards of the regular menu items we previously had at the restaurant. If this had been our first visit to Tulip, we would never go back. We have recommended Tulip for dinner to friends, but have warned them off of Tulip's buffets.

Read many reviews (mostly favorable) but had to experience for myself. What an absolute treat! Had 7:00pm reservations and was seated promptly. Staff attentive from beginning to end of meal service but not intrusive. A violinist and guitar player were on site playing music perfect for enhancing the dining experience, they even took requests from guests - they knew my song! Started off meal with bowl of chicken and white bean soup my dinner partner had the hummus and bread - both amazing, flavorful and satisfying. Entrees ordered were the lamb wrapped in eggplant and the roast beef/roast lamb plate (essentially a gyros plate) - both were superb. Selected the cabernet sauvignon Bordeaux to accompany the meal - excellent pairing. Will return.

I was expecting a menu of half Turkish wanna-be entrees and half American food, but what I got was out of this world! The food was authentic and wholesome and the restaurant was clean and beautiful with Turkish touches. I will, without a doubt, be returning!!!

This has become a favorite place of ours. The food has always been flavorful and well prepared. Service has been very good to outstanding. I recommend the Ottoman Platter for two if you are unfamiliar with the flavors of the region. It is a good sampler of kabob style meats and some vegetables. It is served with rice and a bulgur pilaf that is very flavorful.

The food & service was very good, but the drink prices were much higher than average for the area. Our bill for 3 was $120 and 2 of 3 had kabobs. I would return for the food but not have drinks.

I have dined here a couple of times and enjoyed it thoroughly. This time the food and service were no different but we had the misfortune of being there on a night when they were hosting an extremely noisy bachelorette party. The shrieking was audible in the restrooms on the far side of the restaurant and all the tables near by asked to be re-seated. Not much to fault them for and the staff was both sensitive to the disturbance as well as responsive to people's requests and moved several tables and tried to create a barrier between the party and the rest of the diners but nothing could dampen that awful noise.

We've been here several times and have never been disappointed. I love all the lamb dishes. This visit I had the lamb shank stew. The meat was falling off the bone tender and so flavorful. My wife had the ravioli. It is filled with a seasoned meat and served in a yogurt sauce. This had become a favorite of hers. She also likes the tilapia.

Food and service was great. They did automatically add a tip amount because we used a Groupon - we know enough to top for the full value of the meal - so it was a little annoying at the end, but I somewhat understand as there must be some Groupon users who don't tip appropriately. Still, it put a little negativity on the end of the experience. But the food and service were great. We will go back.,

We were seated and brought waters 15 minutes later. At this point the waitress asked us if we were ready to order. We had never been to the restaurant before and did not know a thing about the menu. We explained this to her and she said she would give us time. We ordered a beef dish and a pasta dish- both of which seemed to be prepared without salt, pepper, or any additional spices. They were extremely bland. The waitress came by to check on us and did not realize when we said "the dishes are just ok" and that we had taken only a few bites that we were unhappy. We had a Groupon to use, which was taken off the bill, but then a 20% tip was added to the bill. THEN the tax was added up onto the tipped bill. Not worth our money at all.

One of my favorites, but there were 2 disappontments. First they were out of Turkish coffee. Second the special, advertised as pan seared tuna, was over cooked. Other minor quibbles were that service was a little too slow, and the music was too soft.

My hubby and I took a quick weekend getaway and I thought it would be nice to try something different. Tulip was a lovely restaurant, on the edge of the Third Ward with plenty of seating and outside seating in the better weather. The menu was varied enough for everyone. I had the lamb kabobs and my husband had their 'meatball' kabobs. Both plates were very good. Hot bread with olive oil/oregano came first, with delicious, fresh salads (ala carte) prior to our entrees. Yes, I'm sure we'll be back.

Went with a Living Social coupon and it clearly stated on the coupon "2) Gratuity not included; please tip on the prediscounted total" However, when we received the bill an 18% tip was included on the bill and there were only 3 in our party. We discussed the issue between ourselves, but did not have the coupon to verify since the waitress had already taken the bill. But after now reviewing the rules we should of questioned the waitress.

We went to Tulip because of a Groupon coupon we had and it was well worth the trip. The only bad thing I can say is it was kind of loud because of some little kids that were running around. Other than that, it was a great experience! The food was very good. I had the lamb wrapped in eggplant and my husband had some marinated chicken with bulgur. The server was attentive and the prices were very reasonable. I would definitely recommend going there. We will go back there again soon!

We saw they offered a Valentine's special so decided to make a reservation. We were impressed. Immediate seating, elegant yet minimalist decor, and really good food. The only detraction was when it came time to pay the bill and the server took 20 minutes to return to the table to pick up our payment. After an evening of good food and drinks, that was very minor. It highly recommend Tulip for any occasion.

Recently went to dine on Valentine's Day and beyond the couple that brought an excellent ambiance with their live romantic music, I would give it 1.5 stars overall at best. The food took 40 mins to come out after the waiter told me me that the salmon would take 18 mins and that was far from accurate or even remotely close. The waiter got my lady's order wrong and didn't even offer anything type of compensation of some sort for his mistake. I just couldn't find the excellence within this restaurant, I wouldn't reccomend this place to anyone because the serice was poor and the food was sub-par.

We visit Tulip on special occasions & when we want to give ourselves a special treat. The warm bread with dipping oil is a delicious beginning. The Shepherd Salad reminded me of our visits to Europe and was very good. The Mixed Appetizers, as usual, were delicious with the lavosh, and we had plenty to take home for a treat the next day. We enjoyed the Chef's special - cornish hen w/garlic mashed and long stemmed broccoli. It was perfectly prepared and presented. The other main dish was the eggplant wrapped lamb with bulgur rice grilled tomato and green peppe, also very good. Although Tulip has a nice selection of desserts, we always choose the kunefe, and are never disappointed. Our server, Brendon, was gracious & attentive. Wonderful time
