Diner Reviews
  • "We had large servings of everything and took some home for lunch the next day. Very good, we'll go back"

  • "....i really enjoyed it, when this restaurant was "my" special place and undiscovered! it's still very special, has exquisite food, excellent service, good ambience - but it has been "discovered" and even on week nights, it helps to have a reservation. on the weekends, if you don't have a reservation, you may not get in, as it's always packed. good people enjoy good food and i'm happy for the owners! it's wonderful for romance, it's wonderful for small groups, it's wonderful for birthdays - it's just plain WONDERFUL!"

  • "We had a delicious meal, noise level was low so we could have a conversation. Overall a very nice experience. We will be back."

  • "Great food--get the eggplant but all dishes are wonderful, service is good and definitely on my "return to" list."

  • "Delicious Turkish food and hostess had thought carefully where she should seat us as I'd requested quietest table. She gave us a lovely window seat. Only criticism was the courses came a bit too fast- they could slow it down a bit."

  • "The service and atmosphere was great. Food was delicious. The only thing I would change is the quality of the meat and some other ingredients. There is not an emphasis on local or natural ingredients. I don't eat conventional meat, so my options were limited."

  • "Took the family here for a birthday dinner and were pleasantly surprised at the unique, delicious appetizers and entrees. We tried a little bit of everything. The wine list was small, but the Turkish wine was a nice treat. All of the staff were friendly, helpful and attentive. Dessert (creme brulee and a chocolate cake) was amazing!"

  • "I'm almost tempted to write a one-star review, as the restaurant is so exquisite, the food so outstanding, the service so fine - that it's almost impossible to get a table, even during the week, without a reservation - it's always overflowing. But the food is truly exquisite - Ive come to appreciate the Turkish wines and beers (though they have a broad variety of non-Turkish ones). The service is always outstanding and it's always a delight to dine here!"

  • "Tuba isn't afraid to make a bold statement with their food. If a dish needs to be spicy, then it's spicy. If it needs to be rich, it'll be rich. I like that. Everything we got were super yummy. The service was a bit strange but still friendly. I'll chalk it up to the cultural gap. Thumbs up, and would definitely go back."

  • "A wonderful place to share great food so you can get a taste of more of the menu for a reasonable price."

  • "This is a place I could go to again and again. The food is well prepared, varied and the portions large. It is not a fancy or trendy restaurant nor is it a casual ethnic dive - it 's an excellent restaurant experience. It may be Turkish food adapted for American tastes ( I don't know if this is true or not) but it's not trying to be fusion food. There are many appetizers which a vegetarian could enjoy but we have particularly enjoyed the meat, both lamb and beef. The bread races off the plate. The corkage fee is a reasonable $15. The decor is pleasant but the restaurant does get a little loud. It was perfect for dining with our teenage children. I would not recommend it as romantic but it could be a fun date for exploring a new cuisine."

  • "This is my third or fourth time here. The food is very good. The prices are reasonable. The service is friendly. Fun interior. What more do you want?"

  • "I am not terribly familiar with Turkish food, but after dining at Tuba I have a new favorite in the Mediterranean! The owner is very personable and the servers attentive, competent and friendly. The dolmas are the best I have had anywhere and there wasn't one thing we tried that wasn't delicious and memorable. The hot appetizer with the potato and goat cheese is one of the best things I have ever had anywhere; I could have eaten several orders. Go, taste everything and enjoy!"

  • "I had invited two friends who had been to Turkey a few times for both academic and holiday purposes - they also found the food at Tuba exquisite, the service personable and wonderful, the ambience inviting, and the noise level ok for conversation. From the wonderful selection of appetizers, the more wonderful entrees, the delicious desserts and the wonderful Turkish wine - it was again a delight!"

  • "We knew Celal back when he ran New Kapadokia in Redwood City, and it was one of our favorite restaurants. Tuba is even better! Food is fantastic, and the service is awesome. This is one of the best restaurants around - for foodies, for families, for couples. Highly recommend it!"

  • "Service was great! As a first timer to try turkish cuisine, we were recommended to try the sampler appetizer, it was delicious! The signature dishes were so good as well. I will go back and try more of the other dishes."

  • "We met an old friend for dinner in this MIssion District restaurant and had a wonderful time. We shared a number of appetizers, main courses, and desserts. All the food was consistently excellent with authentic flavors and restaurant-quality presentation. We tried a bottle of red wine recommended by the owner, and were very pleased. The service was excellent: friendly but not obsequious and the timing of the food delivery was perfect (wonderfully leisurely without being slow). Our server was very attentive to our desire to talk and linger over the food. This is a pleasant, cozy restaurant with a comfortable level of noise/activity such that we could carry on a lively conversation (5 of us) with no trouble hearing each other."

  • "From the moment we were greeted to the time we left, the level of service was outstanding. The menu had a lot of great options both for meat lovers and vegetarians. The restaurant has a lot of character and it had a quiet atmosphere, good for either chatting with friends or having a romantic laid-back dinner."

  • "I went to Tuba with a group of 4 total and it was a great experience. It was a Monday night, so not very crowded, but the family who owns the restaurant rotated serving us. They had great recommendations of apps/entrees/wine and were very friendly. The food was excellent and we had a great time!"

  • "I was looking for a neighborhood restaurant we had not tried yet, and no one in our group had sampled Turkish cuisine before. The four of us ordered different entrees, one appetizer, and one dessert. The appetizer was the white bean salad, with different types of yogurt and eggplant; the four entrees were the dumplings, the lamb cubes with rice and salad, the lamb shank (special), and the lamb chops. I do not have enough space to rave about the food, because all of it was exceptional; everything stood out because it was all excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner, down to the bread, butter with spices, and the Efes beer, and look forward to coming back to try more dishes. Everything was tasty, not overspiced, and perfectly cooked."

  • "Running late for our reservation and the person on the phone put me at ease especially since the restaurant was able to accommodate. Foods were tasty, servers personable and happy to help explain the foods we were ordering, plate were beautifully presented. I would definitely come again. Thank you."

  • "We were just two and my partner was a bit in arriving but the restaurant was very accommodating and I ordered a wine while waiting which didn't quite fit my taste buds they replaced it very easily. Immediate +++ points for that. Thank you. Then with my partner we had ordered a couple of appetizers - Dolma & Sigara Boregi. Both quite delicious and we ended up sharing a main course since we weren't that hungry at the point. Adana Kebab for the main course was great except it felt like the spices were but over done. Other than that a good experience."

  • "We were recently in Turkey and wanted to find a local spot with authentic Turkish recipes. Tuba completely exceeded our expectations. I recommend the house specialties for all courses...including desert."
    Dined on 1/23/2014
  • "The food is good but it's not exactly authentic...more a middle-Eastern and Greek with some Turkish thrown in melange. I grew up with a Turkish grandmother so I know Turkish. I like this place, however - it was our second time there, and I would return for a nice meal,...the owner is a nice guy and they really want to please you."

  • "I was encouraged to go here with a 1,000 point deal. We had a wonderful time, the owners are very hospitable, staff is friendly yet professional, food was delicious at a good price. We celebrated a friend's birthday here, and we don't regret it."

  • "The menu is great, the food is delicious - great for all kinds of eaters - vegetarians, vegans, omnivores - the cold meza platter appetizer is a meal for 2 unto itself. Everything was delicious and the flavors were amazing! The waitress was attentive and accommodating. Very helpful in describing Turkish dishes the diner may not be familiar with... and the wine prices were great and every wine i've had there (and we did try the Turkish wine) was excellent!"

  • "and check out this under-the-radar gem. Delicious, well-priced Mediterranean made with love from family recipes. The platter of appetizer spreads was spectacular and the lamb and salmon entrees weren't far behind. Even the Turkish (!) wine was delicious. The room is cozy and the service extremely gracious."

  • "This restaurant was a hit! It is run by a married couple (husband was at the front of the restaurant as the host and also helping the wait staff; the wife created the menu and was running the kitchen). It was crowded, but it did not feel overwhelming. The food was delicious and actaully pretty healthy (most of the menu is based on vegetables and spices with the accent of meat). Great find; will be back...many times!"

  • "i love it here and have been many times. this time i brought a friend who had never been here and she was so excited to have a new great place to go. she had the eggplant stuffed with meat and i had the vegetarian version. both were delicious. Also- the turkish wines are excellent, i'm hooked on the yakut and it's become my 'go to' wine when i dine there. super friendly and great food."
