Diner Reviews
  • "had a fantastic brunch here last weekend. I had the mushroom omlette which was fantastic and a side of the hash which changes flavor weekly, this week it was pork and was delish. My husband had heuvos rancheros which was good had a crispy tortilla instead of the usual soft version which he enjoyed. Was sort of loud probably due to the hardwood floors an open ceiling, but they also had booths which looked cozy and would probably be easier to converse in."

  • "Great place for conversation. Very spacious and open. Not many food options for vegetarians or vegans other than salads. Also, if you go there for brunch- they only have whole milk for your coffee. The service was great. Kid friendly restaurant."

  • "The menu changed since the last time we were there and it felt like there were fewer choices. Basically I think the food here is well prepared, but the menu is rather limited."

  • "Tryst is a vibrant restaurant with a nice (if noisy) ambiance, good service, and excellent food. The burgers are some of the best, and there are a wide variety of other dishes to suit the palette. Mixed drinks were so-so."

  • "Everything I had, had kind of a picklely taste. The server was excellent. Kale salid was good. The Salmon burger was not great. Steak Tips were very good. OMG, the Key Llme cheesecake was fabulous. It's not a Tryst like atmosphere. Its more like dinner with a group of friends type place. I would go again."

  • "We were in the vicinity and read about Tryst. It was delightful. The kale/brussel sprouts salad is terrific and the short rib entree and bolognese were both delicious as well. A delightful find!"

  • "We have been to Tryst many times and have always enjoyed ourselves. Great place, great food, great service! The only problem issue, parking can be difficult ."

  • "We've enjoyed several meals at Tryst and will definitely be back. The food is always well prepared, and they do many interesting combinations. On this visit my husband had the salmon and I had the short ribs. We loved both. We had a pork tenderloin appetized, which we both enjoyed. Our only criticism is the noise level, which makes conversation difficult."

  • "Easy to get to without having to go all the way into Boston. Many delicious menu choices, apps through dessert. Food was very good all cooked well. It was nice having nearly their entire menu to chose from for restaurant week instead of just a few choices. When in the area definitely recommend stopping by."

  • "I have eaten there numerous times when I visit an Arlington friend & wished there was a Tryst in Newton, my wish came true somewhat when the chef-owner opened Cook in Newtonville which has the same great food but a more casual atmosphere & far less seating. I was concerned about my favor salad of kale & bruises sprouts would also be @ Cook & IT IS!"

  • "The selections available for Dine Out Boston were extensive, the ability to select options other than the standard Starter, Entree and Dessert combination was well appreciated and the food was exceptional."

  • "Great coffee this time around and it was hot+++! Runny omelet I prefer items mixed in rather than stuffed, mushrooms should be cooked and dehydrated before they are put in and omelet should be cooked through which it was not. Toast should come with eggs, breakfast potatoes great but fried and heavy, Disliked the hash with pulled chicken...service was a bit off...Overall a good experience"

  • "We crossed the Cambridge line, to explore a different restaurant. Glad we did, it was AWESOME. I had made reservations for 2:00, and we were taken right away....I didn't realize the Brunch was still going on. The brunch was wonderful. I had a BrussellSprout/Kale Salad It was to die for, very intriguing... salad. toped with shaved parmersen cheese and peanuts with vinegret dressing. What a combo....Home made saugage on my Eggs Benedict......again, the best. The food was just wonderful, and we plan to go back to this hidden jewel. Bound for Arlington...."

  • "My fiancé and I had an amazing time at Tryst recently! Tryst is always our go to place so it seemed fitting to go there for a special celebration too!! The food is always incredible and we are always so appreciate of Tryst's openness to accommodating vegetarians :) the Buactini Carbonara was just to die for and I so appreciated the chef replacing the meat with mushrooms and asparagus - SO good! The chocolate bread pudding with caramel and peanut butte icecream was also just amazing and the candle and congratulatory message on the plate made the dinner even more special! Thank you!"

  • "I'd still recommend Tryst as my first 2 visits were good. This latest visit the food was good but service was slow - it took forever to get drinks, then our food took forever and when we were done it took a long time for someone to come clear dishes. I also noticed that despite our reservation the table wasn't ready at 1. It seemed like maybe they were understaffed or had overreached on reservations. There was a birthday party there that included some children (lots of work). But regardless, I made the reservation that morning and we could have come later but if 1:00 is open I assume there's capacity. I'll probably come back because the first 2 visits were good but I'm not going to lie, this recent one wasn't the greatest."

  • "I'e been to Tryst twice now for brunch and both times were very pleased with the food and service. As many have mentioned before, I wish they would do away with the televisions. They are just distracting and cheapens the fine dining experience. But overall, Tryst is a good restaurant that tries hard to please."

  • "Great restaurant - hostess was terrific - lots of fun! Will definitely going back."

  • "Tryst serves leading-edge superb food & bar area is inviting. Staff is friendly, knowledgable, very competent. Dining room somehow looks a bit bare in decor. Do love the high tops they have put in there, but maybe lighting needs more warmth or drama? More artwork? We went for Mardi Gras, for which they had a special menu, but there was no celebratory feel for that occasion. Host put out beads and a mask at entry, but that was the only indication of Mardi Gras. Too bad, because menu & drinks were fabulous. Dining room decor feels a bit formal and stiff - would really be fun if made more intimate. For special occasion dinners (like Mardi Gras menu) more decorations would make it feel like a special time. Just saying."

  • "The service was great and the brunch was very tasty. I had huevos rancheros whidh were delicious and served nice and hot. My friend had eggs benedict and raved about her meal. It was a cold winter day and it was nice and toasty and just right inside. No drafts, great table. Would gladly eat there again."

  • "Very well-made food and service to beat the band. Such a pleasant experience both times now. Heartily recommend Tryst to anyone who is serious about food and being treated well for the money."

  • "Very enjoyable from the lighting, our waiter was exceptional, pear martini was delicious, appetizer was a crostini with figs which was incredible and the food was amazing. We enjoyed our time and look forward to our next visit at Tryst."

  • "The beet ravioli with pistachios was one of the best ravioli dishes that I ever had. My husband had a burger that he paleo-ized with no bun, avocado, egg and bacon -- was a masterpiece. Apps and wine were amazing also. Highly recommend!"

  • "We always enjoy our meals here. It's so nice that the hostess gives a choice of a low table or a high one. My very generous portion of Bourbon Steak Tips was cooked perfectly; the chopped salad with it was excellent, but accompanying pilaf was very dry. Spouse had the cioppino which he said was tasty but a small portion for $25. The service (Tyrell) was exceptional this time. Only disappointment was the absence of a mussels appetizer on the menu -- it's one of the things Tryst does best, and a main draw for us. Bring it back please!"

  • "Food was delicious but server disappeared twice while ordering - very odd, no explanation to cover the gaff. Best margarita I've had in years! But coffee was not piping hot."

  • "I've been here now about 5 times and this was the first time that the service was only so-so but that did not detract from the excellent food!"

  • "i ordered the crispy oyster (i've never had them before) and they were very good. tasted a little bit like fried belly clams. the big plate i ordered was the crispy beef shank. it was good but not as i expected. from the description thought it would be similar to the Philippine lechon/roast pork (crispy on outside and tender inside), but it wasn't that crispy outside and i thought the shank was boiled first before being broiled. but it's fine. i took the left over home because the portion was huge. my husband enjoyed his choices as well (spanish ceasar salad and steak). dessert was okay but not spectacular. all in all a good experience. will come back for special dates."

  • "Friends had the wild mushroom soup and were still raving about it the next day. I had the chicken breast--absolutely delicious. And the gruyere-chard bread pudding was soooo good. Can't even describe how good it was. Good service, good food, a perfect evening."

  • "I was impressed by the food, everything we had was really good. Started by sharing the kale and brussels sprouts salad which was delicious, and I appreciated that they split it and plated it separately for us. The bread basket was very good, it was nice and dense. I had the crispy pork shank, which was delicious and tender, served with a yummy quinoa and vegetable stir fry. Hubby got the braised short ribs which were also excellent, served with a cauliflower puree. They have a nice selection of craft beers and wines. I'd definitely go back, it's a great neighborhood restaurant, and worth a bit of a drive as well. One small complaint is the TVs that are on every wall in the dining room, which don't go with the atmosphere of the place."

  • "I went here last Saturday for brunch with a friend. The food was great and the server was very helpful, professional and personable. The wall of TVs were distracting even though we sat in the back of the dining area away from the bar. The TVs do not add to the ambiance, in fact they don't seem to fit. Could they possible turn them off during brunch?"

  • "The food and service were very good. The prices were also reasonable. I actually felt there was too much food. I could only eat half of it and brought the rest home. This is not such a bad thing, but seeing a mountain of food put in front of you is a bit daunting if you feel that you have to eat it all! I don't like to leave a restaurant feeling uncomfortably full. We sat in the bar area not realizing it would be a lot noisier than the main space. It was noisy there. Next time I will sit in the main area and then I think the ambiance would allow for a more special occasion."

  • "I really enjoyed my meal at Tryst. The menu is interesting and diverse. The food was very good, presented well, tasty and fresh. My only complaint was that our server was clearly trying to move us along. I was meeting friends I hadn't seen in nearly two decades, so to be fair, there was a lot of talking and not a lot of ordering for awhile. We did order drinks fairly quickly, though and the place was not packed. She should have backed off a bit. She was pleasant, but clearly annoyed that it was taking awhile. Otherwise, it was a very good experience. I'd recommend."

  • "Late night reservations with 2 young kids didn't throw the expert staff and maitre d'. We still had a pre-fixe gourmet meal with a side of crayons, pasta, and french fries for the kids. A very nice, homey time."

  • "Loud atmosphere and service was really slow. We spent almost 2.5 hours at the restaurant. The manager did apologize for the delay in the kitchen but it was pretty crazy to wait that long when people who sat after my party were in and out before we got our main dishes. All that for food that was just ok."

  • "We were amazed by the delicious food and comfortable ambiance. We've been back and will be back more. Menu is a little slim, so you need to be in the mood for it, but the prices are reasonable and the value is excellent."
