  • "whenever I try to have a meal in the main restaurant I leave not satisfied with the food. I do like the apps and the bar scene and style of the cute bar area though, so I'd stick with that."

  • "The first issue was there was no one at the hostess desk to seat us so we found a spot ourselves. The waitress eventually came and when she asked us how we were and we asked back she said she didn't want to be there and just shook her head. She got progressively nicer but the first few encounters were very rude. Also my fork was extremely dirty with food caked on it."

  • "Our experience at Tryg's for Sunday Brunch was memorable because of the great service, good food and being in the company of lifelong friends. Our friends were pleased and commented on the great choice we made to dine at Tryg's.Some even said they would tell others to try it! We will definitely return."

  • "My boyfriend and I randomly found this place and wanted to try it. The waitress was really nice and so was the breakfast sandwich. The French toast was NOT cooked and when we told the waitress she said 'good to know'. We were still charged the full price and no one ever came to our table to ask how our food was. It was very slow and I'm guessing a manager was on duty."

  • "We were there on a very frigid night. The bar was hopping, but the dining room was not very busy. We like the dining room...not too noisy. We ordered some things from the happy hour menu which was available before 7 pm and also some items from the regular menu. We ordered ribs, but they were out and the popovers were a bit disappointing. The happy hour wines were quite good. My husband liked the generous portion and flavor of his steak sandwich. Service was attentive and friendly."

  • "Went for early Sunday brunch. Not too busy at the time, but was picking up as we left. Had the eggs benedict, and was very good, with a nice thick slice of smoked ham, and great hollandaise. Wonderful Bloody Mary bar. Will definitely go back."

  • "I took my wife there for Valentines day and I was very disappointed. You would expect them to be prepared for a relatively busy night, however they were out of Ribeye steak and potatoes. The New York strip was flavorless, the "home-made" hummus was blah, and the pita chips were stale. Maybe it was a bad night for them, but I can't say that I'd recommend anyone roll the dice on them in the future."

  • "I love coming to this restaurant. As much as a visit I can't complain and say I won't come back because of my first-ever experience"

  • "We arrived during a very busy Valentine's Day dinner rush. The staff was super friendly. Our waitress (I think her name was Billie) was super attentive even though you could tell she was very busy. She did an AWESOME job and made us feel like we were her only customers. Tryg's is a favorite & we will keep coming back. Oh and the food and drinks are great too!!"

  • "I was hoping for a nice night out with my wife.what I got was a table right next to the bar area the music was excessively loud to the point or I could not hold a conversation. The food was decent however the service was extremely poor, we had to continuously flag our waitress down to refill our Drinks well as request silverware. free dinner for two that costs over $100, I would have expected much more."

  • "Valentines day, so the place was packed. Been there a few times, and hasn't always seemed so busy. Bar does well. Really like the food. Make sure you try the deviled eggs, and the babybacks are great!"

  • "We ordered appetizers, and prime rib special. Our appetizers took about 45 minutes and as we were just starting our appetizer our prime rib came out. The prime rib was so raw it was blue. We mentioned it to one of the manager and be agreed to take care of it. They brought it back after just searing it. The manager saw what they did and said, " they didn't take care of it." Then he brought back a ribeye and said, " here's your second course." It was an overdone, dry piece of ribeye. I was done. Did he think that we weren't going to notice. We were done. They comped 20 percent. What a poorly ran restaurant. Did not even come to apologize. We will not be going back."

  • "Tryg's has always been hit or miss with me, but they have a decent bar and a great dj on Saturdays, so decided to have my birthday dinner there. The food was just OK; I ordered the butternut squash ravioli and was incredibly disappointed by the 7 small, oily raviolis piled in the middle of my very large plate. This would barely qualify as an appetizer! The rest of my party found their respective meals (ribs, steaks, & salmon) to be bland and/or over-cooked. Our server was moody and quickly forgot both our drink orders and dessert orders. She also failed to acknowledge that there was a birthday despite being reminded by my party. Awkward. If it weren't for the bar & dj, I'd probably never go back."

  • "The food was great. The server was absolutely horrible. He didn't seem knowledgeable about the food menu or the alcohol selection. He repeatedly brought the wrong drinks and food. He also overcharged us by 18 dollars. Thank goodness I noticed the mistake. Not even near a great dining experience."

  • "And the food was just okay. Fish tacos included large pieces of fish, but mostly a close slaw. The linguine with mushroom and creamy pesto. Less is more, why load it with creamy pesto. A traditional garlic oil pesto would have been great."

  • "Our waiter was very friendly--but we rarely saw him. We ordered a coke, a fat-free cappuccino and an iced tea. The server came back to the table with a coke and said they don't have skimmed milk for cappuccino or iced tea (yet they had hot tea..hmmm...). He said they had regular milk for cappuccino, so we said that would be fine--he came back with 2 glasses of milk. We laughed it off and then rarely saw him again. The food was average at best, the service was poor--but friendly. None of us were impressed and wouldn't recommend it."

  • "I loved the atmospere, it was a great dining experience. It was a perfect location for the new years eve celebration I attended"

  • "We chose Tryg's for an early New Year's Eve dinner. We were promptly greeted upon our arrival and shown to our booth. The server, Lois, arrived with menus and asked for our drink order. The restaurant was not busy when we were there. We knew there was a limited menu being it was New Years, but the server did not seem to be familiar with the menu or the no changes or substitution policy. We were very pleased with our meals and left feeling satisifed. We were a bit disappointed as the server was not as knowledgeable on the available menu items or as attentive as we had hoped - especially since the restaurant was not busy while we were there. We will go back to Trygs and hope the service is more to our expectation at the next visit."

  • "Tryg's is our favorite restaurant for any occasion, we have been going there for years & always New Years Eve!!"
    Dined on 12/31/2013
  • "I like Tryggs and have eaten there for lunch several times with good results but they were not on there A game on New Year's Eve. Food for the price was mediocre. But the service was awful. They weren't that busy so not sure what the issue was. Service was slow and unatentive. The waitor forgot my drink order. Served the main course w/o silverware including the lobster pliers which I had to ask for. And he just was not to be found. The maître d finally saw my credit card sitting on the table on a walk by and asked if we wanted a box for the food."

  • "Wanted to take my family to Sunday brunch. Made reservation online. Arrived and was seated. Noticed it was kind of cold.We were seated promptly. Hostess was gracious and on it. Server was a kinda slow. We finally ordered, bloody Mary took a while to show up. By then we had our jackets back on before we ordered. Our kids all ended up ordering hot chocolate to warm up at 3 or 4 dollars a piece. My daughter's French toast came out cold, my wife's pecan crusted catfish was not good. She moved it around the plate. My boys didn't like the pancakes either. My steak and eggs were ok.My older daughter had an extremely overdone turkey burger.Great location, great looking place. Not very good food.Service is better at Bad Waitress in Uptown."

  • "It was a Sunday, December 22nd. We had brunch menu brunch around 11:30 in the morning. It was pretty dead, not too many there. We sat at a nice booth and had good attention due to not much going on. Mimosa and brunch items were good. I have had the buffet there before and it was great, but that was on a mothers day. This was a standard Sunday morning. The prices were a tad higher maybe, but not bad at all, probably our mimosa jacked it up a bit. I like the place, it's comfortable, easy to park, nice fire going at the entrance, consistent food quality. No big wow factor, but very decent breakfast, slightly higher scale than going to some other local breakfast place, like Longfellow grill or something like that."

  • "My wife and I arranged a dinner party for six and, in the past, have always enjoyed Tryg's. This visit was a disappointment. Despite being a holiday weekend, the place was practically empty. The service was rushed (why?) and my food had the salinity value of the Atlantic Ocean. Something seemed a bit off from the last time we visited. I'd be hard pressed to return."

  • "Have eaten many times at Tryg's and been very satified. This time it seemed the Happy Hour beer selection was weak and only available in the bar. Our server in the bar was very distracted and made several mistakes in our order. I hope our next experience is better because we have enjoyed Tryg's."

  • "This Lake Calhoun hot spot doubles nicely as a place for a family brunch or dinner. It seems to effortlessly go from happy hour comingling of up-and-coming professionals to a great ambience for both couples and larger families. The food is what you want to expect in a place of this caliber. And, bonus: Full holiday buffet on Thanksgiving!"
    Dined on 11/28/2013
  • "We came for Thanksgiving dinner and were a bit disappointed. We were seated across from the servers station in the bar. Not much of a view unless you like looking at glasses. Service was lacking in that I had an empty cup of coffee for quite awhile until I got up to fill it myself. Then the food, it seemed to be dried out as though it had been overcooked or sat out too long. Don't have an interest in going back."
    Dined on 11/28/2013
  • "The value was excellent! The food was very good and included all the traditional items. Because of the special Thanksgiving Buffet, the seating arrangements were a bit crowded and somewhat noisy. The servers were prompt to attend to our needs, however, they did have a bit of a problem getting our wine order correct. Had to figure they had a rookie tending bar who didn't really know the difference between a red Zin and a white Zin nor did the server. Took them 3 tries to get it right. When they did get us the correct wine it was very good. It was nice to see the "boss" working on a holiday as well. To us it shows a committment to service and hospitality. We had a very nice Thanksgiving dinner and would go back again."

  • "It is a buffet setting with basic thanksgiving meal plus a few addition traditional food such as jambalaya and walleye."
    Dined on 11/28/2013
  • "The food was good, it's got lovely ambiance, but the server disappeared for long periods of time. Apparently she thought that a buffet meal meant she didn't need to wait the tables. Our wine glasses sat empty for awhile. I waited to find her for a cup of coffee with dessert; she never asked. There was a lull after we arrived, so it wasn't due to a full crowd."

  • "This was our 1st time at Tryg's and based on our "experience" we will be back! It was a more upscale restaurant than we were expecting - which was awesome. We were greeted by friendly staff and a fireplace that was burning real wood which looked and smelled wonderful. Our booth was comfortable and our server was friendly and efficient. The food selection was plentiful with the best cranberry relish, sage dressing and dessert bar. We came here because our home kitchen is under construction. Our experience was so delightful we will probably return next year for Thanksgiving plus check out the regular menu. The pricing was what got us in the door - excellent Thanksgiving buffet price at $20/adult. We hope that doesn't change."

  • "We had eight people for Thanksgiving....everyone was so nice and efficient from open table to our waitress. The food was good with a good variety. We were not rushed so we all enjoined our day."

  • "A group of friends had Thanksgiving Dinner at Tryg's. The quality of the buffet was about equivalent to that of Old Country Buffet with less variety, but with the added availability of wine and beer. The waiter was attentive in taking orders for beverages. The food was not gourmet or anything unusual, but was satisfactory. The restaurant was nicely decorated, and the noise level was moderate so we could converse easily with each other."

  • "The food was good. However, I had the salmon which was just average for the price. The waitress was training in someone, which is fine, but she kept coming back asking questions. Our foursome was just trying to enjoy a nice night with no kids & we were starting to feel harassed by all the times she stopped over asking if we were ready to order our food ( about 6 times) and are we ready to order dessert (about 7 times). And yet, we couldn't find her when we were ready to pay our bill."
