Trummer's on Main is where New York City meets Historical Charm. Owners Stefan and Victoria Trummer bring their extensive restaurant experience and passion to small town Clifton to offer a unique dining experience. Our chef, Austin Fausett, helms from The Inn at Little Washington and offers a variety of dining options including bar snacks and casual food in the bar, a la carte dining in the dining room or the Chef's Grand Tasting Menu.

  • "As if we needed another excuse to enjoy Trummer's, along comes Restaurant Week -- extended until the end of August, so do go while there are still a few days left. As always, superb food -- staring with the gazpacho and maybe the best ceviche I've ever had, then the flounder and the rockfish for our main courses, ending with the chocolate and the peach desserts. Also as always, quietly professional yet warm and friendly service. No wonder it's so highly rated!"

  • "Totally enjoyed the experience from reservation to payment... the best part was the eating - great food selection and able to accommodate food allergies / sensitivity for the tasting menu. Outstanding service and selection. The meal options were great and the food was fantastic (you must have the rockfish, as well as the chocolate cake). And the popcorn ice-cream is a must-try! Extensive wine list suitable to all tastes; also have a great beer, lager selection (complete with micro-brews). Located in Historic Clifton which lends to the ambience. Will be back again."

  • "We dine at Trummer's about once a year when we are in town. This year the experience definitely topped last year's. The new chef hit the mark and the "Pain and Pleasure" cocktail was outstanding. Our server was also fantastic. We were there during restaurant week and chose the 3 course offering. Our server gave us an additional complementary scallop course ( not one we had chosen) and it was a delicious surprise. We are looking forward to our visit there next year."

  • "As far as the service goes: Our waiter was friendly and personable. There was a mix up with an order and the sommelier arrived promptly and made it better. She, the waiter and manager regularly checked in on us through the evening. The food was beautifully presented and delicious. Although the servings appeared to be limited they were not! We had sufficient food for dinner and to share with each other. As a side note: we had gone, unknowingly, during restaurant week. The special menu certainly was adequate to choose a 3 or 4 course dinner with or without wine pairing. Aside from that, we had a preference for something not in the menu and they still accommodated us!"

We tried several of their cocktails, and they were all very good, as was the service. Driving out in the country far more relaxing than getting around in the city. However, the prices keep us from going to Trummer's very often."

  • "Despite he fact that the restaurant was very busy, the service was excellent. We were in and out in an hour and 15 minutes without feeling the least bit rushed. We weren't looking for a long leisurely meal so this was perfect. If we had been I think we could have stayed longer without a problem. The meal was very good. My husband asked to substitute a side dish for another and they couldn't do it. Understandable since they were really busy. I ate his side dish (something he just doesn't like) and it was excellent. I tried to trade him my pasta for it but that was al dente to the point of being difficult to chew. He said his fish was wonderful my sausage (with the underdone pasta) was very good. The gazpacho was excellent except for sprouts."

  • "Our first time at Trummer's was during restaurant week. We had heard some very good things about the place, and they did not disappoint. The honey brined chicken was the most tender and flavorful we have ever had - hands down the best! The rockfish was impeccably fresh and delicious. Appetizers (golden tilefish ceviche and yellow tomato gazpacho) were unique and amazing. The Rappahannock oysters were fresh and briny - perfect. Service was excellent - attentive and responsive, not rushed or overbearing. Couldn't have been a better night - we will definitely return."

  • "My wife went to Trummer's to celebrate our 2nd wedding aniversary because our wedding reception was held at Trummers. The only bright spot of the evening was that our reservation was for 7pm and we were seated promptly. From the time we sat down until we actually placed our food order took 30 minutes. It took us a good 20 minutes to get a drink. Service was truly awful. We weren't made aware that it was restaurant week and I guess shame on us for not checking. We ordered the 3 course menu and it took a solid 45 minutes for us to get our main course after being served the 1st course. I believe the waiter (Kevin) was upset that we didn't order a bottle of wine. I don't drink, but my wife ordered a glass of wine."

  • "Came here for dinner with my girlfriends, but not expecting much since it was for "Restaurant weeK" and most of these higher end restaurant only offer a snippet of their regular menu or create an entirely different menu all together to offer those who normally would not dine there a chance or rather taste of what their $35 affords them. Overall the food was so-so, with it's rendering of compact array of forcefully designed decorative plates of edibles. We had an 8 o'clock reservation and expected at tops a two hour dining experience. However, turned into 3. Service was slow and dragged on, with multiple attempts on our end to actually just get a waiter to take our orders. Perhaps, they need to train their wait staff to be more attentive."

  • "We ate outside on the patio, had some train, airplane and car noise but it was not enough to be an issue. In the great room, it was rather noisy. The Titanic drink was superb and so was the cerviche and yellow tomato gazpacho. The rockfish could have uses a bit more flavor but was an excellent piece of fish."

  • "OMG! what a sweet restaurant. Crazy but I have passed this restaurant many times while cycling through the quaint little town of Clifton Va. and always thought it was a bed & breakfast. Upon entering this gem, I immediately was wowed! Very stylish 1st floor bar area. Dim lights w/ illuminated bar and great background music allowing conversation without shouting. Upper level dinning room is very sweet with light paint, high ceilings, plenty of windows that multiple views of decks, rock garden w/ water fall. Service was 5 star excellent and changed silverware after every course. My 3 courses had me wanting to try everything on the menu. I believe that the Chef is an expert. I was greeted by the Manager and invited back. Nice touch."

  • "Dined at Trummer's on the Main on Wednesday 6 August. Everything was very well done (service, food, plating, wine list and dessert). I expected the high prices of course. I do think that they should be slightly more price sensitive. Our bill was $187 for two (appetizers, entrée and dessert) with gratuity. My wife is a non-drinker and I had two glasses of wine (house Merlot). Again; an excellent night out, but slightly pricey."

  • "I was there with my partner for a 50th Birthday Celebration. We did not want to make the trek into DC but still wanted a memorable experience. Our dinner was great as usual. The only downside was my dessert. I ordered the Frozen Raspberry Curd. It was very sweet and had tasted like a ladies make up case smells. We wanted a wine by the glass while we studied the menu before we ordered. We mentioned we would leave the bottle selection up to them with dinner. Once we placed our order the appetizer arrived quickly and we never got a chance to order a nice bottle of wine. We just contined with another of the by the glass choice."

  • "At Trummer's you will find quite a selection of excellent menu items you won't find at other restaurants. I especially enjoyed the grape gazpacho and stuffed squash blossoms. My husband had the porchetta, kale Caesar salad, and oyster appetizer. I finished my meal with the sorbet medley with fresh fruit (not on the menu). The beignets are heavenly. There are six beignets served, so an order can easily be shared."

  • "We knew going in that it would be an expensive night out and were happy to pay given great food AND great service. The food was excellent, drinks were excellent, however I didn't care for the pretentiousness of the wait staff nor the sommelier. We arrived and it took a full 10 minutes before anyone even offered us water much less took a drink order. The surroundings are lovely however the room we were in was loud which made visiting with our guests difficult. So overall, not a bad experience, but not a great one that would merit the over $700 we spend amongst six people."

  • "Was looking for someplace we had not yet dined for a small family celebration, and was pleasantly surprised about Trummer's. Everything was top notch...top to bottom service, food quality, flexibility from staff to accommodate requests. Everyone had a high level of professionalism without being snooty, and all were energetic and passionate. Some patrons might think the restaurant is too loud, but the high ceilings and openness contribute to a great vibe. While everything we ordered was excellent, highlights include the rubbed marrow bones, the porchetta, the fava bean succotash and the shrimp and grits side. This is not a steak and potatoes place; go to enjoy something new, you will experience something special."

Was looking for a quiet place to take a friend out to dinner and decided to thumb through some older restaurant reviews from the WP and came across a review of Trummers so off we headed. The drive out was beautiful and we were pleasantly surprised by the Clifton area as neither of us had been there. We loved the big sunny main dining room and settled on the tasting menu for dinner. Each dish was a treat . . . beautifully presented with wonderful flavors that played off each other perfectly. The staff was wonderful without being helicopters. Definitely going to revisit this gem."

The fixed price Sunday dinner at $38 was good value for the price and the bucket list wine a great value. Adding in a cocktail and coffee pushed the total up but in line with what I would expect. Service was attentive and the room was nice and quiet, making it a great romantic spot."

  • "I like Trummer's quite a bit, but I was reminded again on this visit that it can be hit or miss. Our appetizers were excellent - my rabbit ragout was great and my wife really enjoyed her squash blossoms - and I should have followed my gut and just ordered a few small plates. The mains, on the other hand, were quite disappointing. My porchetta was not bad, just incredibly dull. My wife's duck confit was overcooked, tough and dry, the exact opposite of what you expect from duck confit. To their credit, the restaurant discounted the meal as a result, not necessary but appreciated. We'll go back, but maybe next time stick with the starters."

  • "We went for Sunday dinner and we were glad we did. The restaurant was quiet and the service very attentive. The food was well prepared and the single price for appetizer, entree and dessert was a novel idea. Well maybe. The huge downside is the price. The portions were not huge like you get at some restaurants. That may or may not suit some people. I'm not a big easter and enjoy a well done meal even if it is smaller. But be prepared to shell out some bucks. I had the impression the restaurant was aspiring to be known as a high end 5 star place but just hasn't made it yet. We did enjoy the evening though so I would still recommend it."
