Trummer's on MainMade a special occasion, very!Took my mom for her birthday dinner. We sat in the airy, high-ceilinged Winter Garden room. Didn't order any alcohol, and I really appreciated (and was relieved) that we weren't pressured to or made to feel like second-class diners. Appetizers: she and I agreed that the arugula salad topped with a ricotta-filled squash blossom was fantastic. Entrees: my mom enjoyed every bite of the prosciutto-wrapped pork tenderloin. I was surprised that the rockfish filet came with the skin on, but maybe that is the standard. Desserts: she had the trio of sorbets (all delicious; her favorite was the white peach); I practically licked my plate clean of the sweet-and-salty, whimsically-presented popcorn ice cream. Gracious, helpful service by Michael, too!6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMLove the new menuThey have a new chef and it shows in a good way. I had the fish and he had the pork. Both great choices. Had the sweet bread for an app. Sooooo tasty. Our side was shrimp and grits. The wine selection is better than average with some off the beaten path choices. Defnately headed back. We live near Clifton but it would be well worth a destination dinner for those further away. Ask to be seated in the main dining room. We have been seated just about everywhere but I do prefer the main dining room.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMWelcome AustinChef Austin from the Inn of Little Washington is a talent foodies will appreciate. Best sweet breads we have ever tasted. Wonderful dinner and wine choices. This is truly a superb restaurant well worth the drive. Do yourself a favor and book a table now.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMNever DisappointsWe are always very happy with our experience at Trummer's on Main. The service is always excellent, the wait staff personable and truly make sure your dining experience is top-notch and the food is always delicious. Trummer's new chef brings an innovative twist to the already excellent menu.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat For Special OccasionsI love the very special, yet relaxed feel of the dining room (we were in the sunroom). Our server, Jonathan couldn't have been nicer. I had the beef tenderloin, which was perfect, and the popcorn ice cream was fun and yummy. My friends had the pork tenderloin and the rockfish. Everyone was very happy with their choices. Jonathan recommended the perfect glass of bordeaux with my meal. I couldn't have been happier. I'll be back to try the specials for Saturday lunch, and Sunday brunch and dinner.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat place!!My husband and I went for our anniversary and we had a wonderful experience. The service was excellent, our server was friendly, energetic and very knowledgeable of the menu. The server that brought the bread was also very attentive and friendly. The restaurant itself has this very romantic, country feeling to it, and it is absolutely beautiful.
The food was very good. While the portions may not seem like much at first glance, we were actually very full when we were done. My husband ordered the fillet wrapped in prosciutto and I ordered the spinach and ricotta stuffed cannelloni. So much flavor, it was absolutely delicious. My favorite though, was the Titanic cocktail drink!!6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMSolid once againAnother solid visit to Trummers ... Drinks were great, accommodations were perfect and the new menu was a pleasant surprise. My only complaints are that the portions were smaller (though excellent!!!) and the food took much too long to come out then we would have expected. While we appreciate that there were larger parties there that night, I don't believe it is in anyone's interests to slow roll the smaller tables. To his credit, our server was fantastic--we didn't fault him in the least.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMMade a great 2nd impressionOur first trip to Trummer's was not that great. We had heard wonderful things, but our first visit was met with late seating, a waiter who took forever to take our drink order and food that took an hour to arrive. The food was awesome, but we were starving by then. However, they totally made it up to us the second time around and gave us the most amazing dining experience. Their food has always been tremendously delicious, but they still managed to amaze us again! Definitely would recommend for a special evening out. Can't wait to visit again!6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways incredibleThis is our family's favorite restaurant. Every time we eat here, we are amazed by the wonderful food and outstanding, friendly service.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMThis place has delicious food,This place has delicious food, just the pairing of food was a bit odd. The wine list was extensive and the service was just OUTSTANDING. I would recommend this place for a romantic dinner for two. I have only been here once for my 2 year wedding anniversary with my husband, but plan on going back as soon as possible.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMRomantic AnniversaryFrom the greeting upon arrival to the end of our experience, we were treated to an amazing anniversary dinner. Very attentive staff, the food and wine pairings were perfect. A truly lovely setting and a very relaxing atmosphere!5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMwelcomed surpriseI live in southern Fairfax County were there are few good restaurant choices. Trummer's was a welcomed surprise & great pick for an anniversary dinner. Everything I ordered was full of flavor and texture. I will visit again and soon, as they so generously provided us with 20% off coupons which we can use over the summer. Bravi!5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was excellent - everythingThe food was excellent - everything on your plate had a purpose that served to make a complete dish. The chocolate and rum dessert pairing - unique and described as "sublime" by the person who ordered it. All four of us commented on how tasty the lardons were that came with our arugula salads.Everyone we dealt with, particularly the food and alcohol servers, was excellent. They were knowledgeable about the menu, performed their jobs well and weren't scared to show their personalities which our table really appreciated. The servers responded well to the personality of each table so if a table was less willing to engage with the server, the server accommodated that. We were all very happy with our experience and can't wait to go back.5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMWorth the trip just for the TitanicFrom the very first sip, the famous Titanic cocktail did not disappoint! Ice floes of Elderflower Sorbet floating in a sea of muddled grapes, Ciroc Vodka and Prosecco made for the perfect 'Maiden Voyage' at Trummer's. The house-made bread can only be described as a cross between ciabatta and a southern biscuit, surprisingly light and airy with a soft and chewy crust. The BBQ Bone Marrow appetizer was a highlight of the meal. Served with an exquisite peach jam and petite salad of frisee, every bite was savored. The remainder of our meal was perfectly cooked and beautifully presented and the service was excellent. If it were not for the fact that several components of the various dishes were slightly salty, I would give the food 5 stars.5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMHusband's Meal Great...Mine okayWe were really happy with the service and ambiance. We sat in the large, high ceilinged room and it was lovely. We loved our cocktails--can't say enough good things about the Titanic! Our initial drink service was a little slow, but the service after that was pretty flawless. I think I just ordered the wrong thing. I got the pork shoulder and it was just fatty--I left at least half on my plate. My husband's tuna was outstanding. The desserts were a definite highlight. It's a far way to go for dinner, but a great special occasion place. If I return, I would definitely try something else for my main course.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMTrummer'sMy wife and were celebrating our 38th anniversary. The ambience was pleaseant, service great and the food very good but expensive. My only problem was that I did not particularily like their menu selections but that is just my own particular taste. Their menus what I call "Cutesy California Cuisine" which I don't particularily enjoy. Don't get me wrong what they had was very good.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMRather pricey. While the food was outstanding, I thought it was a little pricey, especially given the service. At these prices, I would have expected to be "doted upon"by the wait staff. That was not the case.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat funGreat restaurant. The tasting menu with wine pairings, while not cheap, was perfect. Attentive service, great ambience. This restaurant is a real find.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMTasting menu is a must!A delightful setting for an extravagant tasting menu! The wine pairings are spot on! With Jonathan as our captain, we felt like the most special guests in the restaurant. Highly recommended for a special occasion or just because you want a night out!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent foodThe food here is beyond compare. Technically well done, creative, and fresh. The restaurant is clean and contemporary while maintaining comfort. The drawback is a sense, that the restaurant over emphasizes it's own perceived importance. Meaning so many decent American restaurants feel entitled to charge a ransom for decent food.
The wine and cocktail lists are extensive.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMVery wonderful experienceFrom the moment we walked in, we were treated like an incredibly important guest! The menu and history of the building was explained, as were all wine pairings and selections! It made the experience delicious as well as educational! We will go back anytime!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent MenuWow, the dinner was amazing. The food was well presented and delicious. I recommend Trummer's for that Special Occassion.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous Find in a Pretty SettingThis restaurant rises to the level of New Orleans, which is a high standard. My wife had cucumber gazpacho then chicken with a curry and peanut sauce and jasmine rise cake, I had the gazpacho also, then pork loin with brown sugar/bay leaf and collard greens with andouille, with a side of heirloom beets. For dessert I had a "bread-with-pudding" that was a variation on bread pudding. Everything was fabulous! It's now solidly on our rotation, which needed some additions.
The service was exceptionally friendly and helpful, the sommelier even dropped by twice, just to pour our not-pricey wine, and was charming. We couldn't have asked for more.
The location, in Clifton, is pretty and quaint, which adds to the charm.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMgood foodgood food and really well done until we got to the desserts. My spouse ordered something familiar sounding and received something very different (and disappointing). But the service was great, the menu had lots of interesting things that we wanted to try, and the soup, fish, and other items were very good.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent Dining Treasure! It was our anniversary and from the moment we arrived, my wife and I felt like royalty! The staff at Trummers were very professional, friendly made us feel welcome! The food was great and the pace at which it was served was perfect. James was our waiter and we really took a shine to him. We are both looking forward to returning soon!5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMAnother great dinning experienceTrummetr's is our favorite restaurant. Not only is the food great but the servers are exceptional. We have never had a bad meal here. Highly recommend this restaurant to all.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Date Night ExperienceWas there on Saturday night of Mothers Day weekend. Food was excellent. Kitchen got backed up so food was slow coming out of kitchen. Not sure if this was typical of a saturday night; or a result of Mothers Day crowds.
Overall good experience. Pricey.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMAlmost outstandingThe only reason I gave this restaurant a very good instead of outstanding is because the male bartender was a bit cocky. I don't like it when you are paying top dollar and the bartender (or any service staff) has a cocky attitude. Everyone else was very nice.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMI had a great experience (greatI had a great experience (great food, multiple courses ordered between 6 family members, all of whom were generally pleased by the quality and presentation). However, I had one small issue, in that I was asked (during the confirming phone call) if there were any special celebrations (there was, I mentioned that I and my now husband were getting married the next day, and also the next day was Mother's day, which I did not mention). Yet there was no acknowledgement of this at the restaurant during the whole dinner. I wouldn't have minded as much if they hadn't asked me, as it lead me to expect something and feel a little disappointed afterwards.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMOverall ExcellentLoved the environment. Food selection was a little sophisticated for my undeveloped palette but the entire staff was so accomodating and brought my table hamburgers, per our request. So impressed by their friendly demeanor, excellent and beautiful environment and continual willingingness to accomodate us. Impeccable service and ambience! Would recommend to anyone for a date night, special occasion or event.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMOur first time and we loved it.Everything was great. A special treat in a beautiful setting. Thank you Trummer's On Main!5/7/2013 12:00:00 AM5 Courses = 5 StarsMy wife's birthday was special with chef's 5 course special. They even allowed my 10 yr old to sample while providing her some kid favorite french fries that were delicious. When I say Wow, I mean WOW! Mixed drinks are original and have a great wine list if that doesn't suit you. Phenomenal service from all who assisted ... all were friendly including the owners who both visited with us.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMAlmost heaven...but...Main courses perfect - tender, flavorful rockfish with blackened crust and fresh mushroom saute! Pork - so good you stop eating just so you can bring some home to eat again tomorrow! Sweet potato looked & tasted machine made. Crawfish etouffee too salty, Very good chocolate ganache. Staff very good, but the jeans noticeably too casual...Decor nearly Pottery Barn perfect...but got lost in /confused effort to be modern or colonial or rustic without every making commitment to any style. Owner friendly/welcoming but curious that he told they hired new chef to start in few weeks-explains the uneven menu. All that being said, a most enjoyable evening, very good meal. We will eat here again someday, perhaps June or July after new chef settles in.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMTasting menuWe ordered the tasting menu, and it was wonderful. 5 courses of chef's choice preparations that were all delicious. The appetizers of scallops & tuna were to die for.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstandingOutstanding tasting menu and wine pairing selections with fantastic service. Truly a great restaurant, my overall fine-dining favorite in metro DC area. Delicious and creative food in a beautiful and friendly atmosphere.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything to like, nothingEverything to like, nothing to complain about. Imaginative food preparation. Don't usually drink cocktails but the house specialty, the Hurricane, was wonderful. Expensive but worth the cost.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMA very happy anniversary dinner! We had been wanting to try Trummer's for some time...and chose our anniversary to do so.
We enjoyed a cocktail at the bar before going upstairs for dinner. I had the Titanic which was fabulous, my husband had the Manhattan and said it was one of the best he has had. The bar staff was very knowledgeable about the menu and made great recommendations!
We enjoyed our time at the bar so much that we want to back and just dine at the bar next time for a more casual outing.
We enjoyed the entire experience and definitely be back!4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMI am always impressed by Trummer's,I am always impressed by Trummer's, the food is excellent, the wine list and recommended food pairings are amazing, the staff are great, if I could give them ten stars I would!4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstandingI have been to Trummers on several occasions. They never fail to impress me every time I go in. I bring all my family or visiting friends to Trummers. The food is excellent I am working my way through the menu and have not found a thing I did not love. I enjoy Trummers for a few drinks with friends, Sunday Brunch, or a romantic dinner. It is my go to place for great food and outstanding service!4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMFood and service were firstFood and service were first class!All-around enjoyable evening.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst Timer at TrummersWhile this was our first trip to Trummer's we had great expectations after reading so many wonderful things about the place. Our table was in the back room in the corner outside the kitchen so we saw a lot of activity only it was not at our table. Everything took a really long time...getting our waiter to our table and then a long time to get our appetizers and over an hour from then to get our main dish. The food was delicious once we were served.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMService, food, atmosphere...Service, food, atmosphere... All perfect. We can't wait to go back.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMNearly thereTrummers is a delightful place, but let me cut to the chase: The food is very good, but I do not think its quality matches up to the prices. Furthermore the plating and presentation of the food also do not match the overall quality/flavors. The restaurant is nearly there, but for the moment I tend to think Trummers needs a bit of an ego check. I can get similar quality food for $10 less per plate at other restaurants. The service is wonderful, the ambiance/space is perfect, and the cocktails get two thumbs up for quality - the food just doesn't get live up to its expectations. Tasty, sure, but not amazing. I would be willing to give Trummers another chance, but this is the second time I've left disappointed.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMDate Night = Great NightWe love Trummer's!! The cocktails were amazing as always and so was the food. It is always great to eat (and drink) and our favorite restaurant! :) Although we know Trummer's is great with kids, we love coming here to have our date nights!4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food, excellentExcellent food, excellent service! Perfect place for celebrating our anniversary. Went for the chef's tasting menu and it did not disappoint! Will definitely return.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMTrummer's on Main in Clifton,Trummer's on Main in Clifton, VA is a foodies gourmet find. I've dined there on 2 occasions and had a great meal both times. On our last visit, we splurged and had the Chef's tasting menu with paired wine tastings. Five small plates prepared by the chef were served. the spring lamb and Atlantic salmon were notable. There was an extra dish and a few extra wine pairings thrown in for lagniappe! Memorable evening. Call for reservations and ask to be seated up stairs.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMOverall an excellent dinnerOverall an excellent dinner for a special occasion. I had the butter chicken and my wife tried the pork shoulder. Both were well prepared and presented however I have had better butter chicken in a good Indian restaurant. The service and ambiance were just right for our anniversary dinner. We will go back to try a beef entree and I hear the Sunday fixed price dinner is a very good time to go to Trummer's.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMA wonderful treat for EasterA wonderful treat for Easter lunch! The cozy front room on 2 would be perfect in winter with the fireplace blazing. Next time we are celebrating Spring we will ask to sit in the beautiful, sunny, back room. Order a Titanic.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMEvery thing was fine withEvery thing was fine with service. As far as the meal servings was fine,I can see that that I am only a 3 course meal person; beacause, I was full after the appetiser. Then I had the main dish and then desert. If it were a 5 course meal I would not be able to walk out the door. But every thing was fine and had a good time!3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMWill be back...Beautiful venue, outstanding service, delicious food (I had the New York strip, husband had the rock fish, we shared the scallops as our appetizer and ended the meal with the popcorn ice cream). Told my husband I would like to visit this restaurant for our anniversary every year!3/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
