Diner Reviews
  • "Often a restaurant isn't as good the 2nd or third time but I think this is one I will keep making the trip out of the city for. Som is great. She recommended a bone luge (we ordered the marrow and after eating it, they poured bourbon down it into our mouths!) So good! Great food all around. We had an excellent gazpacho that was so unusual but so good. One or two dishes out of 12 or so were boring but I have had few dining experiences where one thing did not seem boring and the rest were fantastic!"

  • "The food and service were very good! We were a little disappointed though, that although we had put down in our reservations, that it we were celebrating our Anniversry, and mentioned to them again, when they called to confirm, they didn't do anything to acknowledge it! A glass of champagne, or some flowers on the table would have been a nice touch! I don't understand why they bothered asking!"

  • "The food and service were great but it falls into the category of restaurant where one must brace to pay more than $10 a scallop. I know high quality ingredients are expensive but one cannot help but feel cheated at the very high prices matched with very small portion size. A place where one goes for a special occasion but totally out of reach for regular dining. Very much a one-time only, been there-done that, no need to ever go back kind of establishment."

  • "My wife and I chose Trummer's for my 50th birthday. Everything started out very well..excellent service, food was fantastic, cocktails awesome. It look liked it was going to be unforgettable. But then it went downhill...on roller skates. After our food was served, our waiter checked on us once, and then disappeared. Then the large party arrived. Our waiter reappeared to take the large party, and continued to ignore us. As did everyone else on the floor, including the Maitre'D. Approximately twenty five minutes after completing our eating, we finally had to stop a bus person to package our food and to try and get our check. Our celebratory mood squashed by the inattention, and our excitement for Trummer's significantly diminished."

  • "The wait staff overheard a remark about the meal, and immediately went about extraordinary service, offering to replace or exchange, which offer we did not accept. They then brought us a complementary dessert. Their level of concern for the customer was exemplary. We would definitely go back."

  • "Visited the summer shack and did not disapoint us. They have a great summer special menu for the casual dinning room that is wonderful. Lobster, fried oysters, fish and chips and much more to enjoy. Its a great alternative if you don't wish to get dressed up and still want the excellent food they are known for. Will be back soon!! Want to try the clam bake next time."

  • "Ambient is great (could improved though), server was excellent, professional, polite yet friendly. Sommelier very polite, knowledgable, could be more relaxed though. The food was good for the price"

  • "The food is extremely sub-par...the chef is trying to be creative but it lacks basic skills and technique and the food tasted flat, compared to years past. Wild and unsensible menu, all over the place...fried green tomatoes with burrata was a joke...couldn't hardly find the little tiny tomato slices in the breading. Bread served in basket AND on sandwiches was terrible. It was tough and doughy...we were disappointed in the performance in the kitchen."

  • "The Quick fire menu was slightly disappointing due to the small chicken portion, but the shrimp and grits were great!"

  • "As always, superb food and service. As always on Sundays, an amazing bargain of three courses for $38...plus bargain prices on an assortment of exceptional "bucket list" wines. And on this mild June Sunday, perfect weather for al fresco dining on the small patio just outside the main dining room. We took some friends visiting from abroad, and they thought Trummer's was the high point of their dining in the US."

  • "My wife and I went to an impromptu Brunch Sunday. The restaurant was nicely appointed and the staff friendly and attentive. The food had great flavor and was served in a timely manner. The price was reasonable."

  • "Very old building with very new features and menu. It made for a somewhat odd combination, but interesting and pleasant. An early 20th Century building on the outside, and the first thing you see inside is an exquisite modern wine cellar replete with artistic lighting effects. Seating is on the 2nd/3rd floors. One ahs very high ceilings and large windows yielding very bright lighting and an airly mood, the other floor is a cozy sitting room. Food was very elegant, very modern, top-of-the-line creations.... fried oysters w/chorizo gravey .. very nice .. beef short ribs - wonderful! Extensive wine list, yet very affordable "bucket" specials. Good service. Very good food. Can't wait to come back."

  • "A much anticipated evening we could have done without. The hostess was rude and disinterested (didn’t say two words to us), the waiter was somewhat apologetic but displayed an air of arrogant (very long delays in service and spent much time serving other tables that were around us – it was like he forgot we were there), and our meals were very good, but nothing to rave about and not worth the high price for sure. Needless to say we had a terrible time and will probably never return. Not worth the disappointment, time or money."

  • "I don't know what more to say other than it was good. I was very excited to try their seafood shack after receiving an email about it. I was disappointed to see that items on the email never made it to the menu. The crab dip was ok, it lacked crab, and our meals were good, but I've had better of them all for less money. I am glad that I went (I had been wanting to go since I had grown up in the area) but I don't think that I will jump at returning."

  • "With all of the chain restaurants in the surrounding area, Trummer's is refreshing diversion, offering a diverse wine list, unique drinks from the bar, and seasonal menu and wine pairings that shows Chef Fausett's talent."

  • "This is not my first time to Trummer's but our recent experience requires mention. We were greeted by Stefan Trummer and, as always, made to feel at home. The chef, Austin Faucett prepared a lobster crème appetizer and an entrée of tempura-battered soft shell crabs that was truly exceptional. I wish the season for this favorite of mine could last longer, but that is part of what makes them so special. The sommelier, Diana Roderique, suggested a perfect pairing to the dish with a Riesling. It was a wonderful evening."

  • "This is an exceptional place to dine, with excellent service, food and atmosphere. They go out of the way to make it special. We had drinks at the bar before going to our table, so that we could watch the horses run at Belmont. The bar staff was hustling and fun and handled everyone's orders. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!"

  • "This is an amazing restaurant! My husband and I were simply delighted with our special occasion dinner at Trummer's. We were very happy with our choices; delighted by the cuisine; and send our compliments to the entire staff. They truly functioned excellently as a team to provide a very memorable dining experience. • "Being in Sales I eat out 3-4 nights a week at nice places and was looking forward to a new place to bring clients and friends. The Service was wonderful, nice wine list. After reading menu my wife and I both said nothing jumped out at us ( we are foodies and normally comment that there are 4-5 things we want to try...). Started with kale salad and bone marrow. She went with Scallops and I had the Gnocchi with Mussels ( mainly mussels with a few gnocchi). It was good but we've had better at many places. I am afraid to bring many people for fear they would not find anything to order. Again- we are not novices to the upscale restaurant scene. The place could be a gold mine if they expanded the menu a bit on the mainstream side.. "

  • "The service made the food taste better . Only thing that was sub par was the espresso one of worst I ever had but I was ok with it because the rest of the meal was fantastic. "

  • "Trummers has a great chef who is creative - highly recommend the tasting menu as a way to explore the offerings. Stefan and his wife (the owners) are gracious hosts. Diana Rodriquez, the sommelier, is friendly and knowledgeable. "

  • "Found the location charming, service great & food outstanding. Our server, Mike, was very knowledgeable and the sommelier helped pick a great Austrian red to go with our meal. Loved the signature cocktail, the Titanic - can't wait to have another. The bar was not familiar with a Vesper Martini, but they asked questions, then made it well. The Burrata was beautifully creamy & an excellent mix with the ramps & kalamata olives; wagyu - medium rare served with favabeans, mushrooms and marrow - matched & flavored perfectly. Husband had cucumber soup - thoroughly enjoyed followed by the pork chop & pork belly, & gave rave reviews to friends. Dessert was chocolate for me and cheese for him. Label us fans, we’ve already booked another dinner."

  • "A pleasant drive from the Washington area and nice ambiance, esp. in the outside garden, which was also quiet when we were there, allowing easy conversation. However, the food was a bit disappointing, less appealing than the menu suggested, and the service was friendly but rather negligent, at least in the garden. Perhaps this was because we couldn't get there till the last sitting at 2 pm. Fried chicken and oysters were overcooked and dry. I suspect these are all cooked by the start of the brunch and warmed over later. Probably the food is fresher and better if you get there early on."

  • "Started with drinks in the bar. Bar tenders knowledgeable and friendly. Great onyx bar, Dinner was upstairs. Not cozy but good atmosphere. The waiter was courteous and efficient. The courses were served quickly but not rushed. The presentation was very good and cooked to perfection. I plan to go back."

  • "Trummer's is a lovely restaurant with good food. Again, that is 'good' food, not 'great' food. We love the building, service, location, ambience, etc., but have been disappointed with steak being too 'chewy' more than once. The menu is creative and specific dishes are very good, but a few are definitely not and are over-priced."

  • "The food was excellent! The decor & setting are modern and elegant. The service was terrible - worse than a mid price chain restaurant. It was so bad it ruined our experience. Two courses were served without silverware. The wine we ordered to go with the meat course wasn't served until the dessert course. Our waiter spent a lot of time chatting (loudly) with the table next to us. And most maddening; despite informing them it was a 50th b-day celebration and requesting something special be done - nothing happened. The Hostess greeted my husband with 'Happy Birthday' so I know they were aware, but we didn't get the decorated dessert plate shown on the website. We won't be back, I'd rather drive further to get good service."

  • "We went for Easter Brunch and the food was just so so. Entree's lacked flavor, the bread was dull and dry. The server's were kind, but not very experienced in serving or removing table ware. Certainly not worth $60 a person with a very limited menu. The bartender in the bar area was less than thrilled to pour an iced tea. "
