Diner Reviews
  • "To start, until Friday night, I was a huge fan of Trumbull Kitchen. That all changed tonight. To be kind, the food was horrible. I had the tuna at $26.00, and frankly, I'd choose a can of Bumble Bee over this next time. Dry, overcooked, and under-seasoned. Noise level not only of the patrons, but also of the piped-in music was so loud made it difficult to have a conversation with our dinner companion. After ordering it took 45 minutes to receive our entrees. By then, we had eaten our hands. I'm so sad to say this, but we won't be back."

  • "We went to TK before a concert at the Bushnell. The Taste of Hartford prix fix menu was available so my three friends and I ordered off of that. Our waiter was extremely friendly and gave yes great recommendations. The golden beet salad was delicious and my sirloin was good - it came with tasty potatoes and yummy sauces (horseradish and red pepper). All three desserts our table tried were fantastic - churros w/hot chocolate, flan and a cappuccino chocolate sponge cake. I will definitely be back!"

  • "This restaurant was a nice surmise among the insurance buildings of downtown Hartford. Very nice staff who were extremely polite and helpful. The service at TK was top notch! Our dinner was delicious and the while the restaurant was large, the smart lighting made the table feel like it was all alone. Perfect night!"

  • "Our personable and helpful waiter earned a 30% tip. His information and suggestions were a big help! The menu is so creative, I could dine there all the time and still have items left to try."

  • "The food was ok, but the service was way too slow. Over 1Hr min wait time after putting order. The restaurant seems to be understaffed in the kitchen and in waiters. I would not recommend this restaurant again."

  • "Our server was excellent and made sure that we were able to have a nice dinner in time to make a show at the Bushnell. The food was.excellent- I highly recommend the Chaing Mai Curry noodles."

  • "The food was excellent, however they made a mistake on the number in our party (we reserved for 8, but the maitre'd thought it as for 6) and seated us at a table that was too small, squeezed in, and the area was downright hot (temperature) and stuffy and noisy. My wife and I dined there at a time when they were not busy and it was great for two of us; however with a party of 8, this was not so great. The food, however and as always, was excellent. We will be back, but probably not with a large party."

  • "We had the pleasure of dining at TK on Friday before seeing "Book of Mormon". We missed our 6:15 reservations, but the highly competent host quickly found as a good table. As we were pressed for time, we only ordered appetizers. We had the Quebec fondue(not a huge fondue guy, but excellent), the Asian chicken wings (tender and meaty with a complex sauce that was a perfect match), and garlic mashed potatoes. Top it off with a Brewtus Maximus, friendly efficient service, and reasonable pricing and I don't see where you can go wrong. Highly recommended."

  • "This is the second time that I chose Trumbull Kitchen before an event at the Bushnell. I made a reservation two hours before the performance, told the waitress of our time constraint and ordered promptly. Dinner never arrived. The manager did speak to me (after i had to go to the hostess to ask for our check) apologized for the problem and did not charge us for our cocktails and appetizers. The first time I went there, I enjoyed the appetizers and entrees, however, they never served the dessert. I know the food is good, I just wish my guests could have enjoyed it. I was embarrassed."

  • "Appetizers were amazing, entrees were amazing. We were in a hurry to get to a show at the Bushnell and they accommodated us magnificently."

  • "TK is good if nobody is there.. if there are people there, service is extremely slow. This has not changed for many years and it's getting old. I don't think I will go back unless it's a Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. Certainly not a place to grab a bite before a show or other event. I ordered a filet mignon with kale and mashed potatoes and expected to get a decent size meal. Instead, I got the *smallest* piece of meat I have ever had... even high end steak restaurants serve bigger portions for less $$ The kale was burnt and there was 2 maybe 3 tablespoons of mashed potatoes.... Such a rip off."

  • "TK offers valet parking in front of the restaurant but if nothing is going on at the XL Center, it is free to park at the street meters on weekends and there are plenty of spots in a 2 block radius. We arrived 20 minutes early but were seated promptly. Our server was fantastic- knowledgeable and friendly and the pacing of the dinner between drinks, appetizers and dessert was perfect. The food was delicious and I really enjoy the eclectic menu of TK. There really is something for everybody. Our group had duck 3 ways, short ribs, and scallops. All were cooked perfectly and were excellent. I wouldn't hesitate to come back to TK."

  • "Once again we enjoyed our good at Trumbull Kitchen and marvel at how they can consistently serve us the same meal with the same good favors and same good results. Try the lettuce cups, they are a hidden treasure that are have become an all time favorite!"

  • "Although the restaurant was busting at the seams at 6 o'clock on a Wednesday night, we were promptly greeted and seated and our waiter inquired if we were going to a show. (We were.) Although tempted by a couple of the specials, we decided to forego the full dinner and split a Caesar salad (they accommodated us by only putting anchovies on my half) and appetizers. My wife had the Grilled Filet Mignon but asked to have a substitute sauce since she doesn't care for blue cheese (go figure) and I went light (!) with the Quebec Cheddar Bacon & Cheese Fondue. Everything was perfect and portions were enough for leftovers. Our waiter was great and the waitstaff was practically jogging to get food out promptly. Thanks for a great night."

  • "I ferquently chose TK for lunch with business associates. It's moderately priced, high quality food, great wait staff, clean & comfortable environment and it maintains a loyal coustomer base with a similar appreciation for efficient service without the stuffiness of a white table cloth resturant during lunch. There's a mature yet youthful energy about the place, without it being too loud. it my favorite downtown lunch resturant."

  • "Every visit to Hartford includes dinner at Trumbull Kitchen. Menu changes, food is outstanding. Wait staff is very attentive."
    Dined on 3/18/2014
  • "I've been to TK many times, during the lunch rush and it was, bustling and chaotic but pretty responsive to the time limitations of the lunch crowd. TK is always noisy, due to a lot of people in a cavernous space. It was a good meal, with generous portions but we had to wait nearly an hour and 15 minutes for our food to come out. Luckily we were there with friends, getting caught up, but the general service suffered, our drinks ran dry and there was no indication of when our food would actually arrive. When it got there it was delicious and hot but I did wonder why a relatively normal dinner crowd (no line at the door) had the staff so strapped. If you can't make what you offer, in a reasonable timeframe, then don't offer it, I say!"

  • "This is the only place that I go. Food is wonderful and service is amazing. Fast and friendly service even when they are packed. Super fun staff make everything more enjoyable. The whole menu from top to bottom is mouth watering. I have never had bad luck here at all. LOVE it!"

  • "Trumbull Kitchen is my go-to restaurant in Downtown Hartford. The food, service and selection is consistently above average. The dessert menu would benefit from some updating. Prices are fair. Specialty cocktails are terrific. Wait staff is appropriately attentive. It can get a bit noisy so if you want to enjoy your meal with more privacy, head to the booths in the rear."

  • "I have gone to Trumbull Kitchen in the past and I loved it. The past two times I went the service was so slow and the food took forever to arrive. Our last experience the dining room was full, but nothing out of the ordinary for this place. We placed our orders its took 25 minutes for our drinks to arrive and an hour and 20 mins for our appetizers to arrive. The food was good, but not as great as I remember. I used to go to Trumbull Kitchen because the food was amazing and the atmosphere was fun. I don't think I will be returning. So disappointing."

  • "It looks cute and hip, but the place was empty and they did not have a table for our reservation. We sat at the long community table in the bar. Waiter was nice but brought wrong orders. Food was HORRIBLE. Too spicy, not cooked, soggy and just plain bad. The dehydrated bread was not appetizing. The brussel sprout salad was so acidy I couldn't finish the 1/2 portion. The chicken wings my friend spit out. The pizza were just gross. Weirded bread, "fancy ingredients" that together should have tasted good, but it was a gross fail. I am sure that it a cool place for college students for a bar science. But the food was lacking! And frankly the worst I have had outside of China road side restaurants."

  • "The place was quite busy at lunchtime on a Wednesday. Our server was busy and unable to take our drink and lunch order. Fortunately, we were able to get the Manager to take our order, which he did with a smile and good humor. Our server delivered bread and a delicious butternut squash spread. The burger I ordered was cooked perfectly and very good. I like this restaurant and have had many good experiences there and would definitely go back again."

  • "I love the creative and reasonably priced prix fixe menu for Mardi Gras! The Food was very, very good except for the Jambalaya. I'm not sure what happened there. It was a decent dish but not a traditional Jambalaya compared to any that I've ever had. I would definitely go back. thanxx.."

  • "I had high hopes for this restaurant as it is part of the Max group. But I was quite disappointed. It took nearly 15 minutes for the waitress to get to our drink order. She decided to process 6 separate checks for a party of 6 before making a first pass at her 3 other tables. When we finally did get our food it was terrible. The filet was tasteless and the Brussels sprouts were not even cooked. This place is not even close to the standards I expect at a Max restaurant. I'll never go back."

  • "The food and the menu was very interesting and very good. The service was less than adequate. The waitress was slow and to much in a rush...she made you feel that you were a bother if they she did not mean to do it. She needed to calm herself down. She did a horrible job of refilling drinks. We had to ask several times. she needed to learn to be more efficient...for example, instead of walking over to ask if wanted more Ice Tea...bring the pitcher with you ... I would not be at her station again..."

  • "Wish we had found a quiet restaurant for Valentine's day as the music level was too high for us once I guess happy hour hit."

  • "This was my husband and my first time, and we were celebrating a belated Valentine's day. We made reservations ahead of time and were seated right away. Initially a delay in putting in our order with our waitress, but after that food came out quickly and well timed and waitress was attentive to our drinks, etc. Only complaint is in regards to not being able to Valet park as advertised, when stopped by Valet sign we received an odd look and told to pull into the garage and we would be taken care of there."

  • "The dining experience was a great one however our table was wobbly. It seemed that when either my date or myself would lean on the table it would tip to either side. We tried to remedy the issue but it was unsuccessful. It is just a pet peeve of myself and my date but other than that issue the night was absolutely wonderful. My girlfriend was so happy with the food, ambiance and the experience with Trumbull Kitchen. It was her first time there and we will definetly be returing."
