Generally there's a caveat for any review, but at Trumbull Kitchen everything, at least all of the things that are important to me as a diner, were perfectly covered, no "buts" needed. 1) Service was outstanding, from the hosts who met us on the way in and on the way out, to our waitress Diane who was both efficient and honestly friendly. 2) Drinks, apps and entrees ALL delicious, and the menu was interesting and at the same time accessible. 3) Staff was aware that we had a show to make, and made sure our food arrived quickly and we were out the door in plenty of time. 4) Tables had groups that included all ages and even small children, and everyone was smiling and happy. 5) The ambiance managed to cover a lot of ground as well, being both modern and sophisticated, and also cozy and warm. Very cool. 6) I know this is out of their control, but even the diners at our neighboring table were awesome, and offered to walk with us through Bushnell Park to the theatre. I think Trumbull Kitchen attracts great people! This is my second visit to Trumbull Kitchen and both visits were top-notch. I'm looking forward to being in Hartford again so that I can visit again.

Trumbull Kitchen is my go-to restaurant when I meet friends for dinner in Downtown Hartford. The wait staff is always friendly and attentive to our needs. Their specialty cocktails are fabulous and the wine list has a good selection of fairly priced wines. The baked swordfish to be excellently prepared but it needs a better side dish as the pureed carrot sauce and whatever was under the swordfish just doesn't cut it. My guest ordered the bison which she found excellent.

For what I paid, I could have had a much better experience at a restaurant that was half the price. Just expected much more after what I had heard of the place... If you are in the area... there are much better spots so.... I would skip this one... we paid $120 for 2, the service was bad, the food wasn't great, and we had to go somewhere else after because we were still hungry when we left (and we had appetizer and dessert).

Mly best friend and I were taking our daughters to see "Wicked". Hit ugly traffic and were late for our reservation. Our waitress was outstanding. Got us our meals, which were spot on yummy, in no time. She was knowledgeable about the wine and make the perfect recommendation. She was able to get the girls dessert, us coffees and the check with time enough to make the show. Trumball Kitchen was the start to a memorable evening!

We had made a reservation for 6:30 and specified that we had plans at 8pm. We arrived at least 10 minutes early, were told we wouldn't be seated until 6:30. Around 6:45 they FINALLY had a table starting to be cleared off, because of lack of time, had to instead sit at the bar. The bartender was wonderful - very sweet & accommodating. The manager, Trevor, not as much. Didn't come over to us until 6:45 to apologize, told us he'd speak to the kitchen to get our food our quickly and "we'd be taken care of." We didn't get our food until 7:20, and the manager never came to check on us again. The bartender did comp a round of drinks for inconvenience. Overall, disappointed in lack of accommodating and overall follow up to the situation/

Unless you happen to be a preferred guest. At least that's the impression I got. The food was Outstanding and Our Server was great, but the table was terrible and tucked away. Also the menu was stripped down. I know there was a concert at the XL Center which made the restaurant overly crowded, but I had made my reservations months in advanced and was displeased with the table. Also, we were a party of two from a revised party of three. We were given a two top (understandable) but next to us was a four top booth that went to another couple (?). Had we gotten the booth the experience would've excellent The Max restaurants are good food but lately they make me feel like they are doing me the favor to let me in and spend my money there.

We dined before the Fleetwood Mac concert. Management took advantage of the event and filled every available seat in the same timeframe. Service was slow and an appetizer was forgotten, we asked the waitress about it who replied that it was on its way. It never came but the $10. charge remained on the bill. The meal was tasty and we imagine that on a normal Saturday night the service would be much better.

Food and service was great. Window views are exciting if you like watching parked and moving cars. Our reservation for 4 was at 2:30 on a weekend and parking was a disaster (I was hoping to find the parking garage right next to restaurant open, but they weren't). Ambiance is basic yet classy. Noise level was super low at that time and likely a great time if you want to try this restaurant with kids. I've been here at night before and its a LOT busier. Highly recommend if you are in the area!

A group of us were there for my husband's birthday. The appetizers were the bright spot. The entree prices were high and some of the dishes were bad, especially the meatloaf: chewy with a really hard edge and very salty. Also they did not have enough servers so though our server did all he could the service was not good.

First time there. We had the fall menu, which was a play on local beers used in the recipes. It was really nicely done -- especially the orriechiette with local chicken and peas. It was a good value too -- $20.14 for 3 course. Attentive service, nice wine list.

I have had some good to very good dinners here, but this was not one of them. I had the $20.14 special. The crab cakes, while nicely sautéed and served very warm, did not taste too much like crab. The beef short ribs in a delicious sauce were very fatty, and the poached pear (which was served with ice cream) was tasteless.

Trumbull Kitchen offers a Good for pre-theater, with a good selection of drinks and appetizers, stone pies (= pizzas) and entrees. Restaurant has a relatively high noise level, a result of an active after-work professional bar crowd, which may deter some older patrons. Part of the Max group of resturants, with prices to match.

Great pre-theatre dinner at TK. The "Healthy Salad" is phenomenal, and I'm not normally one to order healthy or eat vegetarian. Did try the appetizer special, grilled oysters with what was supposed to be spicy sage butter. Just didn't work, and not spicy at all, but not everything can be a home run. I frequent the Max restaurants, including TK. I usually receive exceptional service. However, on our most recent visit to TK, the service was anything but exceptional. It took too long for our drinks ("bar was backed up") and one of our four meals came after finishing two of the other three ("computer wasn't working"). In fact, as we were finishing, a different server brought out duplicates of all four meals--as if we had never received them. That night was not the experience I expected.
