After having had a less than satisfactory visit some time ago, my husband and I decided to try Truluck's again. We're glad we did. Highlights: my Sangria was the best I've had; my husband said his G&T was excellent. The crab cake appetizer was very tasty. And the star of the night was "Chick" our waiter !

We usually come here to have the stone crab claws, which are excellent. Our reservation request was noted and we were seated in the area we preferred, the staff was friendly both on arrival and departure, and our waitress was very attentive though avoided being bothersome as we enjoyed the crab claws.

My wife and I made reservations for dinner because of the reviews. We were still apprehensive because you're never sure if you can trust them. These 5 star reviews are all on the dot. Checking in I made a birthday comment to my wife, the next day being her birthday. I didn't even think the hostess had heard me. After a great ribeye and crab dinner, the server Dave, who was genuinely nice brought us a delicious dessert with Happy Birthday written on the plate in chocolate. The food and wine were excellent and the staff is the best. It is now our "go to" for a great dinner. Thanks to Dave and everyone there. Sincerely, A S

Everything was good except the pound cake in the chocolate sack dessert. I'm bewildered by how terrible dry it was. I could not eat the cake because it was so dry. It made for a disappointing ending to an otherwise lovely meal.

Had a wonderful experience here on a Saturday night. Appetizers and entrees were very tasty. The sauces that accompany the fish dishes are absolutely wonderful. This Truluck's is as fine a restaurant as the ones we frequent in Dallas. Our waiter was top notch as were his assistants. Would definitely return when in San Diego.

Tucked away at the base of the Hyatt this place is one of my favorite sea food and just great food restaurants. The staff (thanks "bald" Matt) is top-notch. They continue to show everyone that they are the most important person there at any time. Save room for the Chocolate Box just for the experience.

The dining experience at Truluck's is consistently superb. Jamie, our server, offered professional and friendly service, and her knowledge of every menu item and recommendations led us to a delicious meal of fresh crab, New England scallops, and filet with several tasty side dishes. Seafood is all uber- fresh, and preparation of the dishes we had were immensely satisfying.

My boyfriend and I wanted to celebrate with a more upscale dinner. This restaurant stood out online in its quality of food, service, and ambiance reviews. With regards to the food, I was quite impressed and my boyfriend was blown away, particularly with the crab claw appetizer. I am more reluctant to try different foods, especially when it comes to seafood/shellfish but the food here was so artfully prepared that even I felt comfortable with being adventurous. The service was equally as amazing as the food. I was slightly concerned that the food and service might drop with our reservation being only an hour before the advertised closing, but our server Andrew, was energetic and all smiles. We look forward to dining with him again.

We arrived a touch early, but were seated immediately. Service was great and the food was terrific. The giant booths are a little odd, but do provide a perceived seclusion. A nice "happy anniversary" dessert was a great finish. Price are much to high for us to visit with more frequency, but it was a nice treat for my wife and I.

The food quality, service, atmosphere, and overall dining experience at Truluck's is outstanding. Be aware that self parking is limited in this area (you can utilize the valet service) and menu pricing is on the medium to high end (like dining at the restaurants located at Fisherman's Wharf). However, you do get what you pay for...great food, great service, and a fun time!

Quite possibly the best meal we have ever eaten. We had the pan seared scallops and salmon and both had the most amazing flavor. Out server was extremely knowledgeable of the menu and wine list and was very attentive which made the experience that much better. There was live piano and vocals in the bar area which was perfect for background noise. We will definitely be going back again and luckily it is only a couple miles from our house.

First, let me say something about this restaurant. It doesn't try to pretend to be anything different than the classiest and most sophisticated place in town, if you can't handle actually sitting down in a restaurant without being loud and obnoxious (like I find to be tolerated in a lot of places in San Diego) don't come here...ever. Andrew (possibly the greatest server of all time) let us sit for 2.5-3 hours and coursed our dinner to perfection. My girlfriend and I had ample time between each course to talk. At times, I caught myself just gazing around the place in wonderment. It had the vibe of a place that everyone knew they were privileged to eat at, and no one took that for granted. Everything was incredible...obviously

The restaurant was nice looking and the service professional. Their signature item, the crack crab claws were $22 each for the jumbo size, which isn't a problem unless it is served smelling and tasting like ammonia, like mine was. They replaced it with a fresh claw. Their crab cake may be the best I've tried, but the lobster bisque was the worst I've ever tried. The king crab legs were...well...king crab legs (nothing unique or outstanding compared to others). There was also some confusion with the desserts and we ended up with two instead of just one. Not a bad experience, but I will not be going out of my way to return anytime soon.

We had a wonderful dinner starting with excellent pre-dinner cocktails since our table wasn't yet ready. The Tuna Tower was great with delicious salmon and crab as well. The pan seared scallops were the best, followed by salmon, and then seabass. We liked how you can sub out a side for a different one. Next time, I will sub out the green beans for crab fried rice. Carrot cake was yummy. Service was superb, with an entertaining waiter :) Btw, there is valet parking, but take note that they only take cash ($8). Free parking is available, but it's a walk from the lot to the restaurant.

Our waiter was the best. I originally knew his name but I waited too long to write this review! The food was very good. Although the gluten-free menu omitted several things I would have loved, our waiter suggested options, such as the fantastic crab avocado stack, without the gluten-containing sauce. Steaks and lobster were excellent. Complimentary macerated berries desert and anniversary card were lovely touches. The call from the manager the next day shows this is a restaurant that puts customer service first. One complaint - We were first seated in a booth at the juncture facing the kitchen door, the bar door, and a wait station. Distracting for an anniversary dinner. Upon asking we were reseated promptly.

Excellent food and experience. They know how to make a romantic evening enjoyable. Only minor, minor issue... this is one of those places that babies should just not be allowed, or they should have a special "crying room" part of the restaurant since a key part of the ambiance is grown up and romantic. There was a baby there, and it was very quiet, but as soon as I saw the baby I thought "oh no, here we go again...". But it was fine. Really a great place.

This is one of the best restaurants I have eaten at in La Jolla. The service was great, the food was to die for, you have to have the coconut cream pie this was like on other. I went for the Alaskin King Crab legs, sweet and tender. I will go again the next time I am in San Diego/La Jolla. This restaurant is a must. Thank you.

A recurring favorite, this is the place for crab within 50 miles. There is no way not to mix in the King Crab claws (already split, so you do is enjoy) in with their broad offerings of fresh fish prepared simply or with complex saucing. The sides are large and the desserts are gargantuan. You almost need a foursome to tackle the carrot cake. Service is usually spot on, but once in a great while a slip occurs. The rigorous training program is obvious. I dined outside for the first time and found the atmosphere to be exactly what I needed that night: tranquil and cozy with a light breeze.

My wife and I took the opportunity to celebrate our wedding anniversary at Truluck's in La Jolla. This was a repeat visit for us. In the San Diego area there are many choices for dining. It is sometimes challenging to narrow where you want to go to eat and in many cases, simply narrowing the choices to a single food type gets to be hard. When it comes to choosing a location for a special dining event, it is very simple, Truluck's for seafood in La Jolla. The overall experience is calming and relaxing. The service is friendly, knowledgeable, respectful and helpful at the right time. The food would probably rate with the best seafood you will find anywhere, hands dow
