We arrived a touch early, but were seated immediately. Service was great and the food was terrific. The giant booths are a little odd, but do provide a perceived seclusion. A nice "happy anniversary" dessert was a great finish. Price are much to high for us to visit with more frequency, but it was a nice treat for my wife and I.

The food quality, service, atmosphere, and overall dining experience at Truluck's is outstanding. Be aware that self parking is limited in this area (you can utilize the valet service) and menu pricing is on the medium to high end (like dining at the restaurants located at Fisherman's Wharf). However, you do get what you pay for...great food, great service, and a fun time!

Quite possibly the best meal we have ever eaten. We had the pan seared scallops and salmon and both had the most amazing flavor. Out server was extremely knowledgeable of the menu and wine list and was very attentive which made the experience that much better. There was live piano and vocals in the bar area which was perfect for background noise. We will definitely be going back again and luckily it is only a couple miles from our house.

First, let me say something about this restaurant. It doesn't try to pretend to be anything different than the classiest and most sophisticated place in town, if you can't handle actually sitting down in a restaurant without being loud and obnoxious (like I find to be tolerated in a lot of places in San Diego) don't come here...ever. Andrew (possibly the greatest server of all time) let us sit for 2.5-3 hours and coursed our dinner to perfection. My girlfriend and I had ample time between each course to talk. At times, I caught myself just gazing around the place in wonderment. It had the vibe of a place that everyone knew they were privileged to eat at, and no one took that for granted. Everything was incredible...obviously

The restaurant was nice looking and the service professional. Their signature item, the crack crab claws were $22 each for the jumbo size, which isn't a problem unless it is served smelling and tasting like ammonia, like mine was. They replaced it with a fresh claw. Their crab cake may be the best I've tried, but the lobster bisque was the worst I've ever tried. The king crab legs were...well...king crab legs (nothing unique or outstanding compared to others). There was also some confusion with the desserts and we ended up with two instead of just one. Not a bad experience, but I will not be going out of my way to return anytime soon.

We had a wonderful dinner starting with excellent pre-dinner cocktails since our table wasn't yet ready. The Tuna Tower was great with delicious salmon and crab as well. The pan seared scallops were the best, followed by salmon, and then seabass. We liked how you can sub out a side for a different one. Next time, I will sub out the green beans for crab fried rice. Carrot cake was yummy. Service was superb, with an entertaining waiter :) Btw, there is valet parking, but take note that they only take cash ($8). Free parking is available, but it's a walk from the lot to the restaurant.

Our waiter was the best. I originally knew his name but I waited too long to write this review! The food was very good. Although the gluten-free menu omitted several things I would have loved, our waiter suggested options, such as the fantastic crab avocado stack, without the gluten-containing sauce. Steaks and lobster were excellent. Complimentary macerated berries desert and anniversary card were lovely touches. The call from the manager the next day shows this is a restaurant that puts customer service first. One complaint - We were first seated in a booth at the juncture facing the kitchen door, the bar door, and a wait station. Distracting for an anniversary dinner. Upon asking we were reseated promptly.

Excellent food and experience. They know how to make a romantic evening enjoyable. Only minor, minor issue... this is one of those places that babies should just not be allowed, or they should have a special "crying room" part of the restaurant since a key part of the ambiance is grown up and romantic. There was a baby there, and it was very quiet, but as soon as I saw the baby I thought "oh no, here we go again...". But it was fine. Really a great place.

This is one of the best restaurants I have eaten at in La Jolla. The service was great, the food was to die for, you have to have the coconut cream pie this was like on other. I went for the Alaskin King Crab legs, sweet and tender. I will go again the next time I am in San Diego/La Jolla. This restaurant is a must. Thank you.

We were celebrating a special occasion and chose Trulucks. They reconfirmed the reservation and checked on our request to sit further away from the bar. The table was perfect, not too loud and with a nice ambiance. The service was excellent and our waiter was friendly and professional. The food was delicious as well and we will definitely be back in the future.

My wife and I took the opportunity to celebrate our wedding anniversary at Truluck's in La Jolla. This was a repeat visit for us. In the San Diego area there are many choices for dining. It is sometimes challenging to narrow where you want to go to eat and in many cases, simply narrowing the choices to a single food type gets to be hard. When it comes to choosing a location for a special dining event, it is very simple, Truluck's for seafood in La Jolla. The overall experience is calming and relaxing. The service is friendly, knowledgeable, respectful and helpful at the right time. The food would probably rate with the best seafood you will find anywhere, hands dow

Had a birthday dinner last night. 1. Ordered Grey Goose on the rocks and the drink had a yellow cast - perhaps had Vermouth in it but the waiter said there is no Vermouth in the restaurant. 2. Salad half finished and the main course was served. Had to remove butter plates, butter and bread to make room for all the plates. 3. Ordered spinach, arrived late, ordered sweet potato fries - arrived when dinner was almost finished. First time visiting, heard it was great but you did not prove it to me. Just thought you should what is going on. Bob Dana 619 501 1777

Love this place! Always delicious and the service is always on point. The only issue I have with this place is that when I go with a group of friends and a non romantic friend, I end up in a romantic booth. Pretty much (surprisingly) the same booth. Lighting is way to dark. I have to maneuver the menu in order to even see what I want to order. The only other thing for me is the prices for their wine. There isn't a less expensive choice on their menu. I know how much some wines cost and they mark up considerably on their wines which for me this last time was an option I opted out of. I am not cheap by any means, but when I can buy the same bottle of wine for 20 bucks and they charge 17 for a half glass, I'm going to pass on that.

Dinner, Sat night, party of 4, first time. Pre-meal bread (warm) was really good. Crab cake ($18) was as rumored: one of the best around! 7oz filet mignon ($37) was very tasty and well-prepared. Service was excellent. (They not only called to confirmed the reservation, but they also called the afternoon after to follow up to make sure you had a great time--now that is a first!) Ambiance was great. Only minor setbacks: was a bit too loud/noisy and lighting is a tad too dim. Parking is a bit tricky (under the Hyatt and traverse your way to their restaurant) unless you valet ($8). They do validate.

Coming highly recommended by friends in South Florida I thought I would try Truluck's for the first time and it was top drawer. I decided to dine in the bar because it seemed like a nice crowd. The bar staff was awesome and started me off with a “Dinner Martini”. I met others at the bar who gave me recommendations on food selections. The warm goat cheese with peppadew salad and the hot ‘n’ crunchy butterflied shrimp were really delicious and as was the The Crossings 2013 New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc that I ordered to accompany the food. The live music was a bonus.

Excellent dining experience. Live music, not too loud or annoying. Extensive wine selection of good quality wines. The "wedge" salad was half a head of lettuce and well-covered with dressing and goodies. I had the filet mignon and my wife had the peppered Ahi - both were outstanding. The crispy brussels sprouts were a new experience for us and they were also very good. We ordered the chocolate "bag" to share for dessert; it's filled with cubes of pound cake, berries, and whipped cream and it could easily have fed 4 people. It was my wife's birthday and we were treated to a chocolate cupcake with cherries flambe at the table - don't recall if it was a menu selection also. Attentive service.

We came here based on reviews and were impressed with every aspect of our dining experience. Very classy atmousphere and staff. Excellent food and service. Fantastic presentation and attentiveness. We had King crab, seafood platter, and ceviche and all were excellent. Even the bread was delish. Portions were huge leaving us in need of stretchers! This sadly meant no room for desert which looked devine. Don't think, just go, you won't be sorry.

We were not greeted pleasantly, or at all really, but were asked with a smile if we had reservations. I thought that was a small faux pas. The waiter was very personable, professional, and friendly. He matched the energy and attitude of our table. Our waiter, Cory, was knowledgable about the wine and the food and was happy to offer recommendations. We were not rushed and I was surprised to learn we were there for over two hours. We enjoyed the chill platter for two which I would consider a "must have" for fist time patrons to Truluck's. I opted for the Rolls-Royce of lobster, the South African. It was so large I couldn't eat it all after the chill platter appetizer. Excellent stone and king crab! The noise to light ratio was not pleasant.

The restaurant parking was a little tricky to figure out - valet would have been very easy and was very affordable at $8. Self-parking was free in the hotel next door, but it took a series of stairs and elevators to reach the restaurant - we got lost once. The mussels appetizer were expensive and a major let down The mussel meat was extremely small and the sauce just ok. Everything else was fantastic. I had the pork chop which was short of amazing. My wife had the Miso Sea bass, also short of amazing. It was our anniversary - the free dessert was A+ on presentation with alcohol lit on fire - but it tasted awful. However, the other desserts looked amazing, we had the coconut pie - delicious and you indeed cannot taste the Stevia.
