Chef Wesley True's famed Mobile restaurant, TRUE, relocated to The A&P in Montgomery this fall. True features farm-inspired, adventurous cuisine by one of Alabama's most acclaimed chefs. Executive Chef / Owner Wesley True creates the dinner and lunch menus seasonally to offer the freshest ingredients available, sourced from truly local growers.

Wesley has worked with leading chefs including John Currence, Bobby Flay, David Bouley, Marcus Samuelson and many others, and was a 2011/2012 James Beard Award Nominee. True focuses on professional service, a relaxed yet sophisticated dining experience, and food that is completely unique and exciting in Montgomery.

  • "My husband and I went here as splurge. And though we knew it would be pricey, we didn't think the food and the amount you got was worth as much as we paid. However, it is a fantastic restaurant, and our server was amazing! (Sorry I can't remember her name.. She has glasses?) I loved the farm inspired food, as well as the wine selection. You should definitely give True a try, just be ready for a splurge."

We were celebrating a birthday AND an anniversary and had chosen TRUE based on articles and reviews and that the food was locally sourced and inspired. We were not disappointed. Our server was charming and accommodating. We selected a wide range of choices from the menu and all was fresh and delicious. One of our members has specific dietary concerns, and the chef made a special plate just for them that looked and tasted wonderful. The southern inspired entrees were fantastic and the shrimp and pork chops were tender and fresh. The crawfish beignets lived up to their reputation for being "to die for!" Great evening."

  • "After reading about TRUE in the Alabama Living magazine I knew we needed to try this farm inspired restaurant. Each dish we had was wonderful and exceeded our expectations! We had the crawfish beignets to start our meal, what a perfect beginning to our dinner! We each got a small plate, the Gulf Oyster Stew, which was amazing, there were 6 large oysters in it and the Marinated Squash with Lump Crab meat, so much squash and crab, it was a perfect blend of types of squash and flavors!!! Our Large plate meals were the River Region Burger which to quote my husband "This is the best burger I've ever had!" (He's had his share of burgers!) and I had the George Family Farm Pork Chop, it was tender and perfectly seasoned! We can't wait to return!"

  • "My husband & I were in Montgomery for a family reunion. One of my relatives is from Mobile & had dined at Chef True's previous restaurants there. So after reviewing the menu online, we agreed this would be a great choice for a group of 6 foodies. We had 8pm reservations. We had a very attentive and humorous waiter who took great care of us. The food was amazing. We started with the crab beignets (should have gotten a 2nd order of those little gems) & fried chicken skins which were tasty & zingy. Next was the heirloom tomato salad - a work of art as well as delicious. My entree was the River Region Burger w/ always addictive duck fat fries. For dessert, we ended with the yummy coconut cheesecake w/ almond joy ice cream."

I had the Taste of Seafood which was primarily poached shrimp and maintained the theme with an entree of Summer Poached Seafood- mussels, shrimp, snapper. Everything was of high quality and paired nicely with a Vinho Verde white Portuguese wine."

The food combinations on the menu were totally unexpected, but each bite was sheer scrumptious goodness! The portions were perfect and each offered a variety of food preparations. . .from marinated, sauteed, raw, fried, to ice cream! This is something that I have never experienced in Montgomery, AL! I can't wait for my next True dining experience! Oh, the service was impeccable, & the specialty drink was to die for!"

  • "My wife and I have found our new favorite restaurant in Montgomery. The food was incredible, the service exceptional and the setting cordial. The locally-sourced ingredients were fresh and the dishes artfully prepared without being pretentious. The flavors were sophisticated, but familiar and therefore appeal to refined as well as simple palates. We couldn't have found a better place to celebrate our 20th anniversary. Thanks, Bryan, Chef True and the entire staff for a memorable evening. The braised beef and filet were very tender and perfectly prepared. The deserts were just as good as the entrees. The ice creams, which are made on site, were a wonderful complement to the cheesecake and peach shortbread desserts."

The fried chicken skin was a fun, southern play on buffalo wings, and the beignets, the first I'd ever had, offered a nice balance of crispy and gooey. The said the burgers were the best they'd ever had, and I was floored by the shrimp and grits. The local beer was terrific. My only negative thing to say is I cannot believe this restaurant is in Montgomery of all places."

  • "Only 5 entrees listed at lunch we saw nothing appealing in the selection offered that day. The only appetizers, salad or pimento cheese. Even skipped ordering desert, the 2 offered didn't work for us. We had looked for the lunch menu on their website & Opentable, but it's nowhere to be found. Wonder if the owner actually knows they are losing money in scenarios listed above. Don't get me wrong, the staff is great, the prices are very reasonable, only complaint the menu needs expanding at lunch and to be posted on the web for viewing."

  • "Service excellent, awesome environment, modern approach. Did I say service was excellent? But food was pretentious and mediocre. Cheese plate app was good no complaints there. Chicken dish was confused. Puree potatoes came way too whipped with little hardiness to counter the veggies and chicken. Chicken was cooked fine but seafood sausage threw it all off. It was like southern food trying to be too fancy for its own good. Shrimp and grits was mediocrity. Should have went with the filet for 5$ more. Did I say the service was excellent? "

  • "The website said dressy, but the patrons were not dressy. Having said that, the dinner was delightful and the service was superb. We highly recommend the peanut butter pie with home made chocolate banana ice cream served over a bed of crushed peanuts. The banana is a very subtle after taste and quite wonderful. The pie itself is amazing. The portions are generous. This desert is definitely big enough for 2 or 3 people. "

  • "We had a most enjoyable evening with old friends on their 45th Anniversary. Choose early seating as we were afraid it might get too cold as the evening turned dark. The server did a very good job allowing an appropriate amount of time between courses so that our food did not arrive before we had finished the prior course. Allowed lots of time for talking and catching up with each other's lives. We choose the cheese small plate and it was suitable for sharing. Excellent choice, some homemade and all very tasty. Then the Shrimp and grits were great, maybe best we had ever had. The mixed berry Creme Brulee was a perfect ending to our evening. Will come back fairly often."

The service was attentive, but unhurried and unobtrusive for our date night. The streamlined menu offers something for everyone. The server had suggestions and information to be helpful to guide us to our food choices with a deft touch. The appetizer of crawfish beignets were amazing. Crawfish-rich puffs fried to golden perfection served with a slight sweet/spicy dipping sauce. The filet was delicious and the snapper was beautifully prepared with outstanding presentation. The final touch of the strawberry crime brûlée was a exquisite end to a wonderful meal. "
