TrueVery Enjoyable Experience!We visited True for Mother's Day brunch. We had reservations and were seated immediately. The service was great and the staff was very helpful and pleasant. There was a good variety of brunch offerings and everyone in our party found something they liked. The food arrived very quickly, the portions were very large, and each item tasted wonderful! Highly recommended.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMWell worth going out of your wayThough we live 150 miles away, we have been to True twice now - once for a brunch and once for dinner, and will definitely return whenever we're near Montgomery. We were initially attracted by their focus on sourcing local foods, much of their food is grown locally in Alabama and obtained directly from the farms. But we returned because of the exceptional quality of the food! When in season (late winter/spring), the roasted Brussel sprouts are spectacular. We also have had gulf-coast snapper far superior to most fish we find in restaurants along the gulf, and a local pastured pork tenderloin dish to die for! Every dish is a visual delight as well. We wwere greeted with a smile by the hostess and seated promptly, our visit was there was very favorable. The group I came with appreciated the attention and the knowledge of the menu from our waiter.I started with the Oyser Sliders and ended with the Shrimp and Oyster Rissotto both were GREAT!! I plan on trying everything on the menu. Perfect for a night out for two or small group, probably maximum of six. They also carry native-to-Alabama beers (massive plus). Great service, friendly staff, nice low lighting ambiance with candles and fresh flower on table. Great little historic part of town. We had come from cocktail party at a neighbor merchant in same shopping area where True had catered appetizers so that worked out well. We both got field green salad w/ beets, apples and was perfectly portioned, beautifully plated. We also got the burger and mine was sans bun and hoped it could have been wrapped in lettuce but they said it was too hard to do. It came on a couple pieces of lettuce with tomato and a pepper onion relish on side. Sent mine back to cook a tad more than med (my fault - I should remember I prefer med-well). Fab creme brûlée/decaf. Mil discount! Going back!4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMMy husband &I were excitedMy husband &I were excited to try True to celebrate our anniversary. It was a lovley experience overall! The decor is contemporary &beautiful. I appreciated the privacy we found in our indoor table, however, my husband would have liked a "busier" atmosphere. Too quiet for him. Perhaps it was because it was a rainy Thursday night-Or maybe it is still so new? We sensed that maybe with a filled reservation list, the ambiance may have been less "stuffy". We enjoyed our cocktails as well as our appetizers (loved the apple beet salad and the catfish dish). My husband really liked the filet. I had the lamb dinner--it was ok--the risotto was quite nice. This trip was less impressive than last time we dined there, but still quite good. The server was not very knowledgeable of the menu which was disappointing to our out of town guests to whom we had gushed about how great the place is. We live out of town, first time to visit this charming neighborhood. Beautiful location. Great abience. Very comfortable...not over done. Everything from our service, the cocktails (must try the Vesper!!), wine, appitizers, main course... my snapper was so fresh, I bet it was swimming in the gulf the day before!...to the dessert was amazing.
