Diner Reviews
  • "the wine flights were really good. appetizers good, entrees very good, cheese tray outstanding"

  • "Never disappoints. One of few restaurants of choice in Boston. Quality menu, great presentation and always interesting. Caters for my wife's gluten free diet requirements with variety, making for a delightful dinner experience. Thoroughly recommended"

  • "As always the food was wonderful!!! The heirloom tomato salad was spectacular. The Peking Duck did not disappoint."

  • "Fantastic, interesting food . Perfectly cooked, seasoned and presented. Noise level was a little high especially with background music. Definitely a restaurant for a special occasion. I believe they provided small pastries the last time I was there ; they were missed."

  • "A lovely 2nd floor dining room with a lovely view overlooking the historic Boston Commons. Top-Notch service and french cuisine. An elegant, but non-stuffy restaurant with attentive, kind, caring staff who were friendly with our active 6yo son and mature 12yo daughter. We were made to feel welcome and will dine again on our return to Boston."

  • "Fast service is certainly appreciated, but a bit more pacing might make the whole experience more enjoyable. Very good selection of wines, both by the glass and bottle."

  • "Our favorite spot for special occasions that call for intimacy and exceptional cuisine."
    Dined on 6/28/2014
  • "Excellent service with a window seat as requested overlooking the Common! Oysters were delish! then Foie Gras, Beet Salad, followed by sharing Rice Crusted Haddock to die for! Wine selection is not "deep" but carefully selected to cover ALL our tastes !\ Wonerful ...."
    Dined on 6/20/2014
  • "Troquet was recommended by a colleague from the area for our business dinner. It was an excellent suggestion. Our table had a beautiful view. Oysters and foie gras were excellent as appetizers. Main dishes included scallops and filet of sole. Perfectly prepared. Service was excellent with just the right amount of attention. Highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "Very interesting menu. Although the Dover sole is not served in the traditional manner, it was quite good. Suckling pig (its just pieces of meat, not a whole little pig!) was outstanding and cooked to perfection. Don't miss the chocolate soufflé. Ask for a seat upstairs near the window. Ambience otherwise is nothing special. One problem: wines by the glass are served in your choice of two or four oz. Nothing like a $14 four oz glass of Chardonnay!!"

  • "Food amazing as well as wine list. The service was lacking as more diners came in. For the price, plates should have been removed quickly and a more attentive staff should be expected."
    Dined on 6/18/2014
  • "The owner Chris Campbell personally pours the wines and helps select from an amazing wine list"
    Dined on 6/14/2014
  • "The wine service wasn't on par with the quality of the list. And there was a mistake on the bill in favor of the restaurant...."

  • "Wonderful atmosphere with a lengthy and pricy wine list. We had the chef's 5 course tasting menus with wine pairing. Great way to try a variety of the beautifully prepared dishes and fine wines that are available at this neighborhood gem. "

  • "It never fails... Foods always consistently delicious. I recommend Troquet to all my family and friends. My daughter studied abroad last semester and Troquet was our first stop once she was back in Boston from Spain!! "
    Dined on 6/3/2014
  • "The menu was very creative and had interesting combinations. As culinary educators we were very impressed with both the food and service. We liked the option of the wine pairings in 2 oz glasses per course. "

  • "The food was incredible and the service, outstanding. What is great about this restaurant is their extensive wine list and the suggested pairing of the wine with the entree that you ordered that make for an outstanding dining experience."

  • "Excellent all round seevice and food Extensive wine list great psitings with creative food! Friendly staff and chefs "

  • "We went to Troquet for our wedding anniversary celebration and had a terrific evening. We had a lovely table waiting for us overlooking the Boston Common. Food was outstanding (from the mushroom cavatelli appetizer with truffle oil to the scallops!) and service very professional and friendly. Can't wait to go back."

  • "the restaurant, physically, leaves a bit to be desired, but the food is fantastic and the service is very good."

  • "It was a special night for us, a reunion since a year after a friend left the country. We had a great time and we all enjoyed our meal sharing and precious moments we had in here. I would definitely come back here for date night again."
    Dined on 5/21/2014
  • "The second floor dining room provides a great view over the Common. Food, wine, and service were excellent, but the experience would have been more pleasant if they had carpeted the floor and put some noise-absorbent materials on the walls and ceilings. The mirrors on the side walls added light to the room but reflected noise. Too bad; we have been looking for a great place for pre-theater dining."
    Dined on 5/17/2014
  • "Food and service was excellent. We will go back again. "
    Dined on 5/16/2014
  • "We were looking for a new pre-theatre dining experience, and I read an OpenTable review that stated that Troquet is one of the best restaurants in Boston, so we decided to try it. After our experience there, I would have to concur. The dishes are uniquely though out and extremely well prepared. The wine pairings were excellent as well."

  • "We've been here a number of times before and after the Boston Ballet or other events in the area. It's expensive, but the food is excellent (the Cavatelli is superb), service attentive, wine list comprehensive and cocktails interesting. Nice view of the Boston Common if you're by the window. It's expensive, but the food quality justifies it. For pick eaters the menu and be a bit hit or miss - there are a few things that get me excited, and the rest don't appeal as much, and the menu doesn't seem to change that often. So that's the negative."

  • "Returned after an absence. It is remarkable that Troquet remains one of the mainstays that successfully retained excellent quality in both food and service. The ambiance shows its age and could benefit from refreshing touches. It was a challenge to decide between the choices. Appetizers and deserts were particularly innovative and interesting, to the point that they overshadowed the entrees. Inspired wine pairings. Looking forward to a return!"

  • "The idea behind Troquet is great: pair each dish with suggested wine.. While common with tasting menus it is nor common with a la carte dinners. Their wine list is very impressive; yet I can't say the same about food. While lobster crepe was very good, the lamb dish was only mediocre; having rad all the hype about the place I expected more. Service was professional, but not necessarily outstanding. Probably not bad place for pre-theater dinner, but I would not say it is a great destination for special occasions, unless you really looking for a nice bottle of wine."

  • "We started with a friendly chat at the bar downstairs. Then we went upstairs to our table with a beautiful view of the Boston Common. Troquet has an extensive list of wines by the glass and some of us did the 2 ounce flights to get a great variety. All the dishes were wonderful."

  • "great bartender, great drinks, great salads, great fish entrees and terrific service. so why not 5 stars? because of the thoroughly annoying host/hostess (who I assume are the owners?), who were sullen, smile-less and basically hovered over us at the bar until we finally agreed to be seated (to be clear: we were early, had plenty of time for a drink and weren't holding anyone up); why would anyone hire these two unless they're the owners?! get a real greeter/host, and you'll have a 5-star experience. such a shame for an otherwise terrific restaurant."

  • "we thoroughly enjoyed our evening there! We were REALLY impressed by the quality of the food (from starter to dessert) and by our wonderful waiter who was very polite and friendly. LOVED IT! Don't be fooled by the weird entryway (we almost walked out thinking we were going to be the only ones although it was 8:00 pm) as the buzz is upstairs! "

  • "Food was excellent and they were very sensitive to the fact that we were going to the theater following dinner. They kept us on track to get out on time w/o rushing us."

  • "I don't know why Troquet is not more celebrated. It's the best restaurant in Boston and has been the best for year."

  • "The duck confit salad is amazing! I get it every time."

  • "Loved our second time at Troquet. We enjoyed the wine, appetizers (try the mushroom ricotta pasta!) and, of course, the cheese cart. Entrees were average, but the overall experience, especially as a pre-show dinner, was excellent!"
    Dined on 4/25/2014
  • "We have not been to Troquet in over 2 years and we used to go quite often but then we had kids. The menu has changed but certainly for the better. We thoroughly enjoyed their version of Peking Duck (a relief without the ubiquitous hoisin sauce) complimented instead with sweet and sour rhubarb and grounded with the earthy tones of the lentils. Roasted chicken was great comfort food matched with a creative column of mac & cheese and then bound by rich trumpet mushroom jus. Chris Campbell continues to stock his wine by the glass offerings very well. We used the opportunity to confirm our preferences for Italian reds as well as explore the other pairings recommended. So glad they still have the cavatelli and the soufflé was heaven!"

  • "Troquet has the best by-the-glass wine list I have encountered. It is a delight to pair wines with courses and their wine list is set up to allow this with a lot of leeway. The dining room is lovely, with mirrors making the room feel far larger than it is and a great view of the Common. I haven't been more than a few times but every one has been memorable."

  • "This restaurant is located on the second floor overlooking the boston commons - great view. The food was superb and the service was great. Only downfall is the noise level was a little high, it was difficult to hear my guest. It was also a Saturday night dinner time"

  • "The appetizers were fantastic - we had the duck confit salad and the short ribs with pasta and for the mains I had the cassoulet which was fantastic and my wife had the scallops. The wine pairings were spot on and reasonably priced. Our waitress was attentive but not overly friendly and her recommendations were perfect. For dessert my wife and I split the chocolate soufflé which was worth the wait."

  • "I love the French feeling of the bistro, seating guests in the cozy upstairs dining room first. Watching the kitchen, I was struck by the good nature of the chefs. Our table was immediately struck by the service. One person designated to spoon butter onto our bread plates. A total of 4 persons waited on us, butter, water, bread, wines, etc. Everything arrived at the right time. The menu had several attractive dishes, although we did not find any vegetarian entree option. Our "gourmand" group all liked their dishes. I loved the idea that every dish on the menu had a recommended wine pairing. 3 of us shared a great rioja with excellent lamb. One had delicious scallops with suggested white. We will be back!"
