Diner Reviews
  • "The food and service was excellent. Because of this expect alot of people having a great time. Not a place fir a quiet dinner."

  • "The decor and the reasonable prices make it seem like this restaurant would only be mediocre, but both the quality of food and the service here are surprisingly good. The salsas and sauces are excellent, and the wait service is very attentive. This is a great choice if you are in the area."

  • "Restaurant was a recommendation by a friend & our hotel. The food and drinks were excellent."

  • "Loved our whole experience. Great food, awesome service, and nice atmosphere . Perfect for any occasion and accommodating to small or larger groups."

  • "We had a great time, the food was great, the cocktails delicious and the service was attentive and friendly ONLY drawback is that after dinner, you can't have a cup of coffee as they don't serve it (?). Small drawback, but as I was treating a friend for his birthday and he wanted an after dinner coffee, that was a little disappointing."

  • "Unless you're looking for a lively place to drink with the friends, I wouldn't recommend Tropisueno. The staff was pleasant and helpful. However, the food was mediocre and conversation was almost impossible."

  • "Since we work in the Financial District, Tropisueno is a good close location and has very good Mexican food, sure you can probably go to the Mission and pay somewhat less, but when its about getting somewhere fast and the food and service are very good, then its worth it. Tampiqueno and the combination plates were delicious."

  • "The food was just ok. My dining companion enjoyed it much more than I did. The ambiance was pleasant and the drinks were good. The "flan" had the texture of cheesecake and tasted like cheesecake. The service was good."

  • "Shaun really bent over backward to help our reservation work. Our server was really great and portions and food were delightful. Will absolutely go back."

  • "Sunday evening was very busy and perhaps that was the reason for the slow service."

  • "Service was outstanding on an extremely busy Saturday night. We asked for a quiet area (difficult) but were given a perfect spot that allowed us to enjoy the ambiance of a "with it" spot and still hear one another. Four of us - all thoroughly enjoyed the food but the fish special was superb. Took the waiters recommendation on several items and were very pleased. Definitely will return."

  • "Great local hot spot recommended by a local!!! Didn't want to do the tourist thing. Great spot to have killer margaritas!! Will surely make it a visit destination on our next visit to San Fracisco!!!!"

  • "We loved the three different salsas with the chips and when they ran out we immediately got more without even asking! The items we ordered were so flavorful and tasty."

  • "This was one my favorite dining experiences of all time! The food, the service and the atmosphere were stellar! A true San Francisco Gem! I go there for lunch about twice a week! It is always spectacular with the Tortas and burritos. This was my first dinner there and it could not have been better! Recommended to all!!!"

  • "This lively restaurant consistently delivers great food in a very upbeat atmosphere. We both had the Chuleta De Puerco Adobada which was very tender and juicy and split a fish ceviche appetizer that was also yummy though a bit small in portion size. Our wait staff were super friendly and service was good."

  • "Decent selection of margaritas on the menu but ask for the daily special, they tend to have a variety of unique flavors. During the last visit we ordered the specials of the day: a Mango Jalapeño and a White Peach Margarita. The white peach was great because the tequila was masked by the fruity flavors, dangerously delicious. The mango jalapeno was really spicy but really good at the same time. My lips were burning but I couldn't stop drinking. In regards to the food, everything was great except for the tacos (I believe it was beef cheek). The meat was very dry and flavorless. Ive been here a few times and have never had too many issues with their food so this was a surprise for me. Carnitas tostadas on the other hand were excellent!"

  • "We were expecting Tropisueno to be a bit behindas it was Cinco de Mayo but our table was ready for us when we arrived on time for our 9:15 reserveration. Our server was amazing! I've forgotten her name but she had long blonde hair and was extremely pleasant and helpful in ordering drinks and taking our picture after our meal. Food and drink came promptly considering the bar was very crowded and paying for the meal was very efficient. Of course the food was great! I always get the chile verde and it's always delicious. I especially like it when the majority of the pork has fallen apart and resembles pulled pork. "

  • "I've been to Tropiseuno a number of times and always love the food and margaritas! This time, I got the old school dish and chose Chicken Tinga enchilada and a pork tamale. The enchilada was fantastic, but I found the tamale bland. The pork was less than flavorful and not up to par considering I've NEVER had a sub par food item. Anyhow, the wait person along with the bartender suggested 2 wonderful tequilas that my fiance and I had as an after dinner treat! I couldn't tell you what they were, but when we asked for smooth, mid priced, they delivered exceptional options and educated us at the same time! "

  • "Many eclectic dishes, done with special sauces and combinations. The scallops are particularly scrumptious!"

  • "The plantanos fritos and tostaditas de carnitas were delicious appetizers. Outdoor and bar seating which qualified for happy hour was full by 5:15. The place was vibrant and conveniently located across from the Metron. "

  • "We were seated quickly, and next to a window as I had requested in my reservation. Food runs anywhere from $8-21 depending on what you get. The appetizers were delicious and great to share. Entree portions run huge. Food was tasty, especially the chips and trio of salsas they give you upon sitting down. Service was for the most part good. Our server made our margaritas sweeter when asked, and came around to refill our waters a number of times. My only critique is that he and other employees kept coming by to clear plates when we haven't finished what was left on the table. We had to keep telling them we were still working on it. They seemed to be rushing people."

  • "I would go back. With a reservation, my party was able to sit right down. The complimentary chips and salsa were delicious. Make sure to try the scallops as an app. Everything was tasty and the service was great!"

  • "The food is very good. Pricing is fair. It was a bit noisy but it was a vibrant crowd."
    Dined on 4/3/2014
  • "Food was excellent. I had the Mole chicken which was super tender and juicy and slathered with tasty mole sauce. Margarita was also good but tasted a bit weak on alcohol content. It's a very busy, bustling restaurant. Probably not a good place for deep conversations as the noise level was quite high, but it's a fun, energetic place to go with your friends."

  • "This place ROCKS! Always busy, so at night make sure you have a reservation. Great happy hour too! The garlic shrimp and the chicken mole are to die for."

  • "Very good service, margaritas, chips & salsa, especially the chile de arbol salsa. One of the best I've tasted!"
    Dined on 3/28/2014
  • "Have been a long-time Mexican restaurant fan, grew up in So. Cal., but this place is only so-so. The salsas are all great but food is average at best. Noise level for dinner is 4 bombs, so don't even count on talking to your friends at the table. Reservations highly recommended, otherwise average waits are 45 mins to one hour."

  • "One of my all-time favorite Mexican restaurants in the city that breaks away from the Mission taqueria trend. Their chili verde is the closest version to my father's I've found in any restaurant setting - it's incredible and the one thing you should absolutely order. As for the margaritas, freshly made with agave and their well is El Jimador, no cheap alternatives for this place. The staff is incredible. You should absolutely plan to make a reservation, though, if it's any night of the week from Wed-Sun. The bar can be hit or miss with seating, but it's a great spot to queue while you wait for your table!"

  • "Great place to have a drink or dinner downtown. The atmosphere is loud but fun. Food is delicious and customizable (without any hesitation). Warm tortilla's, flavorful beans, variety of salsa, and "fresh" tasting tortilla chips.... all good before even talking about the entrees, which is just as great if not better. The staff were very attentive and friendly. Overall it was good Mexican food in downtown with a fun, upbeat environment."

  • "Believe it or not, in San Francisco, aside from the typical taqueria in the Mission district, we don't have enough Mexican restaurants that are, well, Americanized Mexican food. This fits the bill. Don't get me wrong! their salsas are better than even the most 'Mex.' places anywhere, and they bring a trio to your table with crispy chips. Food is good and so are the Margaritas at reasonable prices. Tropisueño is our to go to Mexican in SF when in the downtown area."
