  • "I love to try different food preparations and that is what we got at Tripel. My husband noticed that Belgian beer was available when we passed the restaurant while dining nearby so we had to give it a try. Our party of 4 tried several meat and fish dishes...all were wonderful! Definitely worth another trip! And my husband loved the beer!!"

  • "Perhaps it was the wait staff, or the layout of the menu, or the food quality itself, but something was definitely off about this restaurant. We had the oysters and mussels and both were underwhelming. Unfortunately, we were there on vacation. If I lived in the area, I might go back and try the traditional dishes. "

  • "Beer menu was lacking for a Belgium place, majority of STL on draft. Certainly not a problem but when your specialty is Belgian the majority should be Belgian. So we ordered a Chimay Red, always a great choice. Waitress seemed very inexperienced. Ordered appetizers, brussel sprouts and cucumber salad, which were very good. Dinner was going well until the entrées showed up halfway through the appetizers. For the price that is a serious issue and shows a problem with the kitchen and wait staff. While the waitress did apologized the proper way to handle that would have been to hold the entrée warm in the kitchen. One of the entrées was not cooked properly and had to be sent back to the kitchen. The other entrée contents were warm at best. ."

  • "Wonderful food with outstanding cocktails and Belgian beer selection make this restaurant. But the food and service were both outstanding The mussels are wonderful , prepared in several ways , Provençal was good the first time , but we had them with la cheufe beer this time which was also good The Amish chicken was excellent as well. The antelope with gin cream sauce was also very good, not as gamey as I would have expected. I hesitate to give this a good review because it's so easy to get a table now , I almost don't want to give the secret away. "

  • "I was sure what to expect heading to Tripel but was excited about the unique food and beer options available. There wasn't any part of the experience that was disappointing, except that we had to leave at some point. The food was unbelievable with the mussels as the best way to start an evening perfectly paired with a nice beer from the bartenders. The rustic dinners we great, I can't spell the correct names of the dishes but we have the stew over pomme frittes and also the stuffed veal, both had great taste with the meat very tender and prepared perfectly."

  • "The location in Lafayette Square is great, however parking was a bit hard, even for a Wednesday. That's Lafayette Square! The decor is more uspcale but not pretentious. You could wear jeans and a button-up and fit right in. Our waitress was great! She recommended drinks, which we took her advice! They obviously have a GREAT beer selection, but we went for one reason: "The Smoke Wagon". Try it out, you will not be disappointed! I had the antelope steak, which was tasty but a little tough. That is expected though, since it is a VERY lean cut of meat. The red wine sauce and stoemp (Belgian mash potatoes) were very good. My favorite was the brussels sprouts with lardons! PERFETION! It was a great dinner and we will surely be back!"

  • "Lunch proved to be a real treat. As you would expect in a Belgian themed restaurant, the mussels were delicious. More than that, the house pate ordered by my brother was so good I'm going to get it on my next visit, which is not to say that my asparagus soup wasn't good enough to have again. You can only eat so much."

  • "The food was very good, but the prices seemed more appropriate for a white tablecloth restaurant than for one that looks like a grill-based place. Soups and salads were good, and the entrees were all very well prepared, but the brussels sprouts werre tough and chewy, just like the bacon they were cooked with. Saturday night, 7:30, place was not busy at all, and by 9:30, was nearly empty. Not too many food items on the menu, and for those of us who know little about beer, the vast beer menu isn't enough to draw us back very often. This is the third restaurant that has been in this location, and may not be the last."

  • "They have a stellar Belgian style draft selection which is available in flights. The food was very good from the Quail with Pomme Frites accompainied by proper mayoniaisse. Everyone enjoyed the dishes and the atmosphere. It will be a great outdoor cafe venue when the weather finally turns."

  • "This place used to be the Soda Fountain Square years ago but now it is a Belgium pub with great beer and food. In the true European fashion, whatever beer you order, the specialized glass comes with it. Service was excellent and the ambiance is wonderful. I will definitely be returning again. I would suggest looking at the menu before you arrive so you have an idea of what beer you will want to try."

  • "We dined there in January and had a great meal. We returned this weekend to what we hoped was another good meal. The quality of the food seems to be slipping. While nothing we had was awful (except for the desserts) the food was mediocre at best. Two of the diners had the Onion Soup and one commented she like the onion soup better at Applebee's. (and she's not a chain restaurant fan). She also had the creme brulee for dessert and was dissapointed. Presentation was obviously not high on the chef's plan as the chicken dish looked thrown together. Brussel sprouts and mashed potatoes spooned on the plate with the chicken pieces just lumped on top. Based on this last dining experience we won't be in a hurry to go back."

  • "The ambience was good. Not amazing, but definitely nice. The escargot was a bit disappointing. It wasn't bad, but also not worth the price. We had the maki (mako shark), which hd a lot of flavor and a great texture, but was just slightly dry. Again, very good, but not quite amazing."

When we arrived, were escorted into back corner next to a family w/infant and a lg table of 20 despite most of the restaurant being open & all times open on Open Table. My wife asked if we could move to another table. Response was curt. Told everything was booked. Moved one table over. While busy, plenty of booths and tables open the rest of the night. Don't know if they felt children need to be put in one area but set a bad tone Dinner took over 2 hours. The food which was superb last visit was disappointing this time. Nothing stood out. We do love the beer lists and the presentation. All waiters and servers were very attentive. Will certainly go back again and hope for a better experience"

  • "Having lived in Belgium for two years, I was eager to try Tripel. I was impressed with the food, however, they were out of mussels on the day we went. Also, I overheard something about a Sunday menu that I was not aware of before I went. Maybe the other days it is more extensive, because it was not really on this day. Music was a little loud, especially with such a small crowd. And, no highchairs for kids. Huh? The service was great and helpful. Everything was pricey all around, from food to beer to drinks."

  • "This was my second visit. My entrée (Choucroute Garnie) was much too salty. My guests agreed that there was too much salt as well. The appetizers were good. My guests loved the escargot w/ bone marrow. My terrine was nice - the accompanying bread was a little too scorched. Oh well, There are lots of excellent restaurants in STL. Maybe I'll give this one another try in a year or two."

  • "Went to Tripel based on glowing online reviews, but it didn't quite measure up. The mussels were underdone and not as flavorful as I'd expect from a place that specializes in them. The broth for the mussels was almost non-existent. The entrees were just OK, though my chicken stew dish was way too peppery. Also, the our food took a very long time to arrive, to the obvious distress of our server. However, the cocktails and wine were excellent, we were seated promptly although we arrived early for our reservation, and our server was excellent - very attentive and made it a point to update us about when our food would arrive. All in all, given others' reviews, it's a place I'd like to try again. Maybe the kitchen was just having an off night."

  • "This was our second time dining at Tripel. The food here is very good. The real problem is the service. The first time the service was pretty good, until we needed the check. This time the serivce was horrible. The time between courses was too long. You start to feel that you have been forgotten. We would have like to have dessert, but were afraid we would have to wait for another half hour. I hope that Tripel can figure out how to fix this problem. I don't know if it is the kitchen, not enough wait staff, or what, but it will be sometime before we return. I wish the food was not so good, because then I would just take them off my list."

  • "A visit to Belgium: interesting menu choices, way different than other STL options. Great beer choices too. Onglet (steak frites) was terrific, in sous vide style/prep. My Blinde Vinken was tasty and interesting. Broccoli perfectly al dente. Lobster bisque also so good without being salty. One problem: all plates/soups were just not HOT, but warm enough to eat immediately in next 3 minutes. Simply not warm enough. Waitress was kind to comp us a dessert for our trouble; nice girl she was."

  • "Really good soups and salads. My husband didn't really care for the turkey sandwich. Also, saw through opentable that they had free parking in the BJC garage behind the restaurant (Th-Sat) with validation. When we went to do this after our meal, the hostess told us not during the day...wish we would have known that. Service was also very slow (2 hour lunch-after the lunch rush). Otherwise the meal was good, would try it again."

  • "My husband and I travelled to Belgium (a must for the Bucket List) about 2 years ago and loved it - especially the food and the beer. TRIPEL does a great job of re-creating the atmosphere and food/drink we experienced in Brussels. It is a great place for a romantic dinner for two, or a group dinner. Service was impeccable. We were not rushed to finish and depart, despite that there were folks waiting. The draft beer , as mentioned by other reviewers comes in glass that is about 25% foam. But it was really good and I'd order it again. My husband ordered Leffe blonde( bottle)."

  • "I booked us here for Valentine's Day this year thinking it would be a calmer place to go - I was wrong. They had taken out a lot of their bigger tables and brought in temporary 2-top round tables (which weren't very sturdy). And because they packed so many more people in, it was very loud and we were sitting very close to the tables around us. BUT the food was very tasty and they had an excellent beer selection. I am looking forward to going back on a night when it's not so crowded and taking time to really enjoy the food (and more beers)."

  • "Portions were perfect. Smaller than the usual which is perfect for us. We prefer quality than quantity. The only disappointment was the mussels in wine sauce with shallots. The mussels were overlooked and sauce not well seasoned. The sausages and pork dish came with excellent selection of Belgian sausages and cured pork meats. My halibut is good, fish was a little smaller than I like for the price and overlooked a tad. Awesome desserts, we had the Belgian waffles and flour less chocolate tort with raspberry ice cream. We recommend this restaurant and will come back when we are in town."
