  • "Nice place, not in a normal setting but the area is really building up to be a great place to hang out. Excellent decor, great food, excellent service. A bit pricey for where the restaurant is, but if they last a couple of years, it will probably be a vibrant neighborhood. BTW- Tried the "Steve McQueen" drink ..... and will do it again."

  • "Met another couple for dinner on Saturday night. They were a little late for our 7:00pm reservation, so my soft-spoken wife and I were seated first, about midway back in the main dining room. As long as the pianist was playing, I had trouble hearing her, even though she was sitting right next to me, which continued after our friends (and others) arrived, even though the piano player wasn't intentionally playing too loudly. I enjoy live music, but I'd rather hear my table companions clearly without raising our voices all evening. Otherwise the place was fine."

  • "Excellent ambiance and well-prepared, tasty food. Unfortunately, as my neighbors told me - you are too expensive! In my opinion, most prices are 15% to 25% too high for the location and marketplace. I was hoping for a "fair-priced" option to The Capital Grill, but was disappointed. There is a profitable place for great steaks between $24 to $36. When I find it, I will have no problem with 2 to 3 visits per month. At your current prices, I may dine 2 to 3 times per year. Normally I like piano music accompanying dinner - nice touch. But too often the piano was far too loud making it difficult to converse with my guests and hear the waiter."

  • "We made reservations for my wife's birthday. Having never dined here, we did not know what to expect. We arrived on time and were immediately escorted to our table and expected our waiter to immediately swoop to our assistance. Instead, we waited a little longer than we are accustomed, which raised my blood pressure a bit. The delay made perfect sense, after our waiter (RG?) made his way to our table to surprise us with our favorite drinks and an appetizer that had been generously ordered by neighbors. We then warned RG that we would be around for a while and he understood. Throughout the evening, he was perfectly attentive without being intrusive...bringing us delicious oysters, filet topped with crab imperial and desert."

  • "This was a superlative experience! The gold margarita was one of the best I've had. The antipasti was interesting and very good. My diver scallops ($32) were the best I've ever had -- and that's saying a lot since I frequently order scallops. My husband's pork chop ($28) was delicious. It was Saturday night and fairly noisy. The piano music was a little loud but still very nice. (Our table was nearby.) There is seating outdoors, but you can't hear the music. The general manager helped us choose wine by the glass and then stopped by to see how we liked it. My husband's red wine was outstanding. All in all, a little expensive but well worth it. We'll be back!"

  • "Expensive. But really good service which really added to our experience. The food was very good also and worth the price. The ambiance was a little off and didn't match the quality of service or food. The furnishings were good but the music being played was out of character and the large tv screens visible from every table gave it a different feel. It didn't feel as upscale as the service and food experience. We would return and recommend to others because of our experience but with hesitation because of this incongruity."

  • "We went there for a 40th Wedding Anniversary on a Sunday night. Overall, the experience was great with really good food and outstanding service. It is a bit on the pricey side, but not any different than other DC area restaurants of the same caliber. The noise level was low, however, we were the only inside table (there were a couple groups outside). Although I did not get to enjoy the Cigar Lounge or outdoor seating area, they both looked nice and something that I would come back to try. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to others. If you have the chance, get Ryan as your server, he was absolutely amazing."

  • "After passing this new restaurant every day for months on my commute, we finally made it in on Saturday night. We dine out often and were very pleased to find a great new spot - that was easy to book on Open Table (a must)! TRIO Grill is not inexpensive, but it is elegant, comfortable and casually "un-stuffy." The staff is attentive, eager to please (we felt appreciated) and the menu offers something for everyone. We found the food both delicious and generous (enough for a nice Sunday leftover lunch for us both). We are eager to return with friends!"

  • "What a fabulous find!! I have visited this restaurant twice and have yet to be disappointed. The food is consistently delicious and the service is great. Fine dining in a relaxed, yet chic environment. Beautiful live piano music, easily visible television screens for the sports enthusiast, a fine wine/cocktail list, delightful desserts, a pleasant staff, and again, DELICIOUS food! I'm sure Trio's Grill will be a favorite of mine for years to come."

  • "Our service was excellent. Perhaps because we had to dine early in order to catch a movie, our waiter gave us a lot of attention. He also knew the menu well as was able to provide great advice in choosing our entrees. The food was so good that we were tempted to linger and skip the movie. We will return."

  • "Had 7:45PM appointment, and was seated promptly despite being quite busy on this Sat'd night. Waiter good, attentive, but this waned towards end of evening. Took nearly 15mins just to get our check. Flounder special was expensive and the fish was dry... I asked them not to put in the crab stuffing, and this may have been conducive to this outcome. Salmon (on a salad) was excellent, as was a mushroom flat bread prior as appetizer. Was dining with my >90 yr old mother, and it was a tad noisy..... it was nice experience, as the ambience is appealing... and the food was fresh. Salad was excellent. Did not have desert... Bread was ok, but perhaps better with olive oil. Lovely evening, but not sure it was worth price."

  • "My wife summed this place up halfway through the meal -- Trio doesn't know what it wants to be quite yet. An extremely loud piano player greets you as you enter, playing semi-current pop hits on acoustic piano (kind of weird), and then when he takes a break, they 80s pop over the sound system quite loud. In a white table cloth place that is serving fairly high-end food, it really wasn't the mood we expected. The bar noise and TVs intrude (at least where they seated us) in the middle of the room. Trio should think about some kind of divider between the bar and dining area. Food was OK. I was impressed with the wine list, with very reasonable options in addition to the pricey wines. I may go again, but tick to the bar."

  • "We started at the bar where the cocktails and bartender were fantastic! The food we ordered for dinner was also great, however, with a menu that is a single page long it is disappointing that they ran out of the appetizer we initially wanted (beef carpaccio). We were also informed of the specials, and when we went to order the fish entree special we were also told that they were out of this. At 8:00 on a Saturday, this seemed bizarre. We will certainly go back because what we did have was delicious, let's just hope they get there ordering more accurate between now and then so we can enjoy what is advertised."

  • "Early evening reservation so the place had few guests. Hostess as very attentive. So was the waiter--at first. Later, he had too many tables that he was giving his generous attention to so there were times when we could not get his attention and had to wait. Note: he was not available for us because he was working other tables, not because he disappeared into the back or took a smoke break. Waiter was knowledgable when asked questions regarding food and drinks' contents and preparation. The drinks were good sized, cocktail was well made. The food was nicely prepared and seemed well thought out and well prepared. Overall, it was a nice experience (and I'm picky)."

  • "You might not notice Trio on your way by on Rt 29 but you should make a point to seek it out! Good food, great service, a reasonable and varied wine list and lovely atmosphere make it worth your while. This was our second time at Trio. We had one app to share among 3 of us, since it was my moms birthday she chose the fried calamari which is served with a yummy, spicy, chipotle sauce. I had the Diver scallops with marscapone risotto, heavenly! My husband had shrimp and spicy sausage with pasta and my mom had the Branzino with lump crabmeat. All were perfectly cooked, great presentation and delicious. Ironically we had the same server as our last visit, Michael, who is professional, knowledgeable about food and wine and a delightful person!"

  • "We went for a special occasion and they gave us the private room, which was beautiful. The wait staff was excellent, the menu and ambiance were great, though it got loud as the place filled up. Being in the private room kept some of the noise out. The only things that were not great was the price: $468 for 7 people + tip. so, special occasions only. And I wish the menu would be a little more specific regarding ingredients. I ordered the Branzino, which was highly recommended, and it said it contained a celery purée. I asked if there was cream in that, and the waiter said just a little. It was full of cream, and so being lactose intolerant, it was not good for me. But the gazpacho was fabulous. Overall, great new restaurant."

  • "We love Trio Grill and go often. Brunch on the terrace was amazing on Mother's Day. Dinner is always something wonderful. Our favorite spot is nestled at a high top table in the bar with tapas-sized food/flatbreads and cocktails/wine. The interior is sleek and sexy with a gorgeous grand piano as the focal point. All of the staff is professional and knowledgeable. The food is excellent although beef selections are pricey. Trio is the crown jewel of the trilogy at the former Upscale Resale site. Road House is great too but not the same upscale experience as Trio. The wine shop wedged in between is expensive, but you can take home your favorite wines from Trio's impressive wine list. Parking is challenging but valet is available."

  • "My wife and I ate at TRIO Grill in Merrifield, VA for the first time. It was her birthday and our anniversary, so we wanted it to be special. It was. The service was first rate, attentive but not intrusive. The atmosphere was very good, with a piano providing background music. Our meal was leisurely with time to enjoy each course. The food was great. Not only was it delicious, but the presentation was wonderful as well. We were very impressed and will recommend TRIO Grill to our friends."

  • "The food at TRIO Grill was amazing. We had the arancini appetizer which was delicious. The complimentary bread was some of the best I've had at a restaurant. I also had a Racer 5 IPA which was a 5 star beer in my book. I ordered the filet oscar and the steak was cooked perfectly. I usually don't care too much for asparagus but theirs was actually really good. Complimentary valet parking was a huge plus as the parking lot was very crowded. The only reason it didn't get 5 stars was that it was a little pricier than I thought it should be but definitely worth a try!"

  • "We were excited try this for a date night. Some of Trio was very good, with a piano player, kind staff, and a friendly waitress, who seemed eager to help us. Our table, though there were hardly any other diners, was right in the middle. The volume of the piano was high, but so be it. The menu was not exciting, despite best efforts to try and sell it. My seat at the table unavoidably looked right at all 4 jumbo TVs. One TV was tuned to a station that went to a long infomercial on the plight of starving children in Africa. Tragic images came up and were shown for 15 minutes+. My husband politely mentioned something to a waiter and got a lecture on how much food American waste each year. Hard to want to know what to say after that."

  • "We have been to Trio Grill 3-4 times and are always happy with the experience. The food is excellent - never disappointed. The fillet in particular stands out but all the salads, appetizers and such are also outstanding. Their coconut ice cream is my favorite dessert hands down. The indoor ambience is quite nice and there is often piano music. The service is warm, efficient & accurate - we pay for babysitters so this is important. We can have a nice, relaxing dinner in less than 2 hours. My favorite part though is the outdoor dining area. It is amazing. You must try this place. My husband also loves the separate outdoor area to smoke cigars. "

  • "While Scott our waiter couldn't have been more attentive, knowledgeable and courteous, the food was okay. The beet and kale salad was delicious and the steak was cooked to perfection. But the scallops were gritty and nothing to write home about. No take-a-moment-to-savor-the-flavor feeling at all. It was our anniversary and the restaurant provided two complimentary champagne flutes and a chocolate muffin/cake dessert which was a very nice touch. The overall rating is good because of the food despite the impeccable service we received."

  • "Went here for a special occasion dinner (belated birthday) and had a truly wonderful meal. The waiter recommended the antipasti platter for two and it was a great start to the meal. Gourmet Italian cheese & meat, rounded out with pickled, grilled and roasted vegetables. My wife had the diver scallops with risotto (another waiter recommendation) and they were exceptional-- as good as we've ever eaten. I had the boneless ribeye with parmesan truffle fries-- another perfectly prepared entree, grilled to medium rare with fantastic seasoning. We sat on the patio, which has a fireplace, comfy wicker chairs. Inside, we noticed a pianist at the baby grand-- well in keeping with the upscale ambiance. We will be back."

  • "I requested a quiet table to celebrate a b-day. It was promptly recognized when we started the experience and we were given 2 glasses of complimentary champagne. It was a great touch and made the decision of choosing that place, as a first time diner, the perfect choice for a special occasion. The server never rushed us, talked to us about the food & wine and everything was cooked to perfection. Definitely going back even if to sit and have cocktails & appetizers at the bar!! "

  • "The hostess was extremely friendly, even calling us by name having checked us in on our reservation. This new restaurant perhaps is still in its shakedown mode. We found the entree menu a bit limited but our food, the red snapper and grilled chicken, was nicely presented. However, service was slow. (It was Mothers' Day, but TRIO was not filled to capacity.) Rather than bring out a basket of bread, a server came around and placed one piece on our plates with a dish of butter. Our drink orders were late in coming, as was the salad. By that time we needed another piece of bread and had to ask for it. The entrees were hot and tasty, but again there was a wait. The chocolate cake for desert was huge, too much and at $10 too expensive."
