Diner Reviews
  • "On lovely summer weeknights, Trestle should put a sign in their front window saying "We're in the garden". Members in my party were concerned when we walked through the sparsely seated dining room, but then delighted as we stepped into the garden. Unlike many gardens with tables jammed together in crowded outdoor spaces, in this garden there is plenty of room between tables, high brick walls, and lovely older trees providing a sheltered space for an intimate romantic dinner or long conversation between friends. The food was very good, the drinks excellent, and the service well modulated to enable two generations of family members to refresh connections and deepen bonds. A memorable evening in a memorable place."

  • "A lovely neighborhood gem; great food, and awesome little outside terrace which was nice on a cool summer night. Creative food, and good wine. A little slow on the service which was sort of surprising as it wasnt busy."

  • "So, ok, you open at 8:30 in the morning, you take a reservation for 10:45 a.m. brunch, but you're not serving brunch at that time...just your regular breakfast menu.....well, ok. Food was just ok, could have gotten the same thing at a decent diner.... I checked neighborhood gem above because this review would not post until I specifically recommended something....quite honestly, nothing applies."

  • "This restaurant is outstanding from ambiance (try to sit in the outdoor garden), service, drinks (negroni, please) and food (of course!)"

  • "Service was attentive. We were not rushed thru our lunch. Our server was knowledgeable on wines and he enjoyed his job. Food of steak tartare with a raw quail egg was very good. Oysters delicious - we could have used a little spoon to dispense the shallot vinegar- crab cake had plenty of crab in it and the monk fish was cooked to perfection. A great place to stop after a good walk on the ELine (I think that is the name of the walk above 10th ave?"

  • "Not only is the food quite good, but one rarely sees such an upbeat staff (sincerely... not artificially so). Avoid the tall-windowed west-facing front dining area on bright summer afternoons, as the sun can be very strong despite window shades."

  • "Am generally a fan, but service was way off on this visit. I arrived before my lunch guest and took a table in the lovely garden. The hostess seated my guest inside ... So we waited for eat other in different ares until we discovered the problem. Our waitress was absent most of the time and the sent us the wrong check. Am hoping this was just one bad day. Food was excellent."

  • "I have never given a restaurant a really bad review, but this restaurant is the worst and I would like to warn other diners about it. My friend and I went there for a Sunday Brunch. My friend's Waffle was good. I ordered a small salad and an egg on Brioche toast. The salad came drenched in dressing and the bacon was just a few tiny strips of bacon FAT. We waited a very long time for our food. I got a poached egg w/o toast so I told the waiter I ordered an egg with toast. He took the egg back and 15 mins later I just got just toast, no egg. I asked for the egg on toast again. After waiting 20 mins and nothing came out, spoke to the manager. She took care of it, but was not very pleasant. Getting the check and paying was an ordeal too."

  • "You will need reservations for sure, the brunch service was bad! I waited 20 minutes for a cup of coffee, the waiter was out to lunch, and the staff were making comments like "I want to go home" with unhappy faces..."

  • "I have had brunch here several times, usually with friends who are former New Yorkers, have not been to the City in a while, and want to see the Hi Line. It's a great Chelsea stop. The food is good, the service is friendly and efficient, and the design and use of the space impresses everyone I have been there with."

  • "Second visit on a sat night. Service is basically nonexistent and rough around the edges. Check in with your tables more often. Pour a taste of the wine rather than just running it out. Chill the red wine just a bit. Don't stand there yawning in plain view. The food is actually very solid and priced appropriately - if they can make it feel like more of an experience. "

  • "went for lunch midweek. our first time there and happy to see that the place was busy... a sign that it was a good choice. food was delicious, service was friendly but not knowledgeable about questions we had about some of the meat selections. curious about one, we ordered some to try it. it was not how described when delivered, and only learned after we had eaten it, that he brought the wrong thing to the table -- there was no attempt to correct the mistake or take the mistake off the bill. otherwise, it was a nice experience and we would go again,"

  • " I ate here for brunch and dinner. The brunch was great in the outside garden, a funky old N.Y. back yard setting.. Loved it so much returned for dinner, a disappointment. Whie the dinner menu was interesting , the food was barely there ..and bland... with such a complicated menu offering i expected someting more the average..disappointed. the restaurant was not busy, several waiters, but really poor service. "

  • "This is great brunch food. Perfect poached eggs and the duck hash was worthy for any brunch induced food coma you might wish to have on a rainy weekend. I will be back. Beware Trestle - I might go for a double order - yeah that good!"

  • "I had eaten at Trestle for lunch and took a group of 4 for dinner and had a wonderful experience. Oysters were fresh and the sweetbreads appetizer was delicious. The menu has both adventurous and less-adventurous choices to fit everyone's preference. Our entrees - scallops, grouper, pork loin and gnocchi - were all superb. Wine was reasonably priced too. Service was attentive, responsive yet unobtrusive. A great neighborhood gem. "

  • "I chose this place because I had family visiting and wanted to take them to the High Line. We first noticed the really great cocktail selection--house specials that were innovative and delicious. Then our server, who had detailed answers to all our questions and was ready with suggestions. And finally the food--creative a delicious appetizers, mains, and sides. I had a delicious pork loin that was perfectly cooked, and the Brussels sprouts with pancetta. We chose to get dessert elsewhere, but I will definitely be dining here again and will try the desserts."

  • "Casual, relaxed, accommodating. Food was quite good, especially the vegetable appetizers. When it got busy, the service sort of lagged a bit, but they were very polite. Would return."

  • "A few mysteries attend this restaurant ... why "trestle"? Why is it on Tenth? What's with the Swiss theme? But in the end it doesn't matter because the atmosphere is welcoming, the service is attentive, and the food is really good. The Swiss part is a light touch, as in a Swiss wine or two on the list, a few authentic cheeses and cured meats, rosti as a side, and some schnapps offerings for after dinner. The rest of the menu is general American contemporary which is just fine because they do it very well ... fresh and tasty. And don't overlook the sweetbread appetizer which is outstanding and distinctive. All in all a standout and for those who don't live in Chelsea, well worth the trip west. "

  • "I've been going to Trestle for years now and have always had delicious meals; from their light, subtle steamed fish to their weekly, rich and delicious fondu special, it's consistently some of the best food I've found in NYC. The staff is some of the best trained and most helpful I've seen anywhere, in or out of NYC, and can always help with the very singular wines offered. Plus, that terrace in the summer is as romantic as you'll find."

  • "So warm, the loveliest staff, and everything on the menu is wonderful. It's the only place in Chelsea where you feel like the staff, the food, and ambience is giving you a big warm hug. "

  • "My family with very young children had an early Easter breakfast. Very accomadting staff , presentation and quality of food was worthy of a return visit. We were so early we did not have to deal with crowds. Prices are fair. "

  • "Nice little place with backyard seating, but the food was just ok and the portions were small in relation to price. Came Saturday at around 2 for brunch. Not all that satisfying. "

  • "We stopped by for dinner on Tuesday evening, early. Everything was very good as it seems to always be when we dine there. The salmon is exceptionally good. A simple salad of butter lettuce with warm bacon and a light dressing, seared salmon with beurre blanc, mashed potato and brussel sprout leaves, a glass of wine and another wonderful meal was had. Highly recommended."

  • "What a wonderful restaurant! It was a nasty rainy night out but the whole evening was made perfect and fantastic. The menu was so well thought out and each plate was beautiful presented. The waitress was friendly and really attentive without being overbearing. We would definately go back to this restaurant. Would love to try brunch or lunch. We have recommended this place to several people. "

  • "The food was very good as usual. But the service slowed down. Evern though there ere staff who weren't doing anything, our cava was not delivered until we asked and no one ever came to the table to ask how things were going. So we were always waving our hands. However, because 4 of us were seated in a 2 people table we asked that 2 appetizers wer brought to the table at a time (we ordered 4), that was accommodated. Also there was a table of 4 that was availalbe. I thought about asking to switch. Only a couple showed up and that table remained open. We could have sat at a table of 4 and the couple could have sat at the table for 2. Would have beem much more comfortable. But will go back for the food. In the past service was much better."

  • "The most striking thing I have to say about this place is how uncomfortable the seating is, especially if you have the bad luck of seating on the window seats. Having customers seat there indicates disrespect for diners. We needed to ask twice before they moved us from there. The service was slow and not very pleasant. Both of us ate waffles. I liked them but my companion did not as they were too reach for him (and he often orders waffles so he has a good base for comparison). I expected much more after reading the reviews others gave to the place. We will not come back"

  • "We can't wait to come back again to try more brunch items.Exactly what our friends from Brazil were looking for during their trip to Bill de Blasio's Island. Everything was delicious! Finally got a chance to visit this place that all our New Yorkers friends talk about and loved it. No complaints, can't wait to go back!"

  • "I wanted to eat lunch at a restaurant near my workplace. I had already tried the Red Cat (which is across the stress) and wanted something tasty. The Trestle on Tenth did not disappoint. It is a cute, little spot on the corner of 24th st. I had the crab cake sandwich with a side of the paprika fries. The crab cake had a little bit too much salt and it did not stay on the brioche bun, but other than these slight criticisms, it was pretty good. The fries with the mustard mayo was great. I loved the sparkling water. A lot of their other dishes had mushrooms (which I don't like) and my guest had the trout. She seemed to like it since it was gone. The food was filling and not terribly expensive at all (considering they don't have $ on website)"
