Creatively retooling the ubiquitous chef-driven concept by serving thought-provoking food in a fun, boisterous environment, the restaurant integrates the best of both casual and fine dining experiences.   • "This was an excellent food experience. The flavors are complex and the pairings innovative. I was with a group we shared the pork flight that included bacon wrapped bacon! The peach fritter with jasmine glaze was delicious. I also had the biscuits with pepperoni gravy which was amazing. My husband chose a simple side with an interesting twist of mustard cream cheese which was truly a genius combo of cream cheese with mustard seed. We all shared plates and I can honestly say that every bite was truly amazing."

  • "Brunch at Trenchermen with friends was fun. The ambience makes it worth the time. Cozy and personable but not cramped. The brick walls and beautiful lighting makes a beautiful setting. The food seemed a little overpriced for what was described on the menu. Flavorful and a nice presentation, but I wouldn't pay that much on a normal basis. Our waitress was very busy and did her job as far as making sure our drinks and food arrived but no more than that. We do want to come back for the bar scene. The bar is beautifully massive and the cocktail menu looks good."

Working for a food company, we have experienced many restaurants, from fine dining to quick service, Trenchermen was a great find- with a knowlegable staff, innovative preparation styles and unique flavor combinations, we had a truly enjoyable experience. The pickle tots with the red onion yogurt and deconstructed s'mores topped with popcorn were awesome... We will definitely be back!"

  • "Fine dining is easy to come by in Chicago, but this place really wowed me on a recent trip. I was with 3 others and we all did the $50 4-course prix fixe which comes with 2 starters or small plates, an entree, and dessert. We all ordered different items and shared the whole night. Brilliant! Of particular note in the small plates category were the tortellini (perfectly cooked, broth was flavorful) and the fried green tomatoes with devilled egg crema. We all could have licked the plate! I ordered the arctic char with borscht aioli and it was one of the best fish dishes I've ever had. The crisp vegetables really complimented the tender fish perfectly. EVERY dish were ordered was plated beautifully, and the vibrant colors were so enjoyable."

  • "We are here the evening we got engaged. We loved the atmosphere and once the food finally arrived it was delicious. The key word here is finally. It took about 40 minutes for our appetizer to come out. We had no expectation of them doing anything special for our engagement but that certainly would have been a nice touch to end our special day."

  • "I was pleasantly surprised by the meal served up at Trenchermen. Prior to dining, I had enjoyed cocktails but hadn't really sampled the dining room menu. I'm glad I finally did! We had the tasting menu and were blown away by the complexity of flavors without becoming to muddled. The fried green tomatoes and the tortellini en brodo were phenomenal. Our cocktails were also really lovely, and the server did a great job recommending solid wines to compliment our mains (porchetta and scallops) and dessert (smores and cheese course). Will definitely be back!"

  • "Trenchermen has put much thought into the small, carefully curated menu at this Wicker Park foodie find. The tortellini en brodo is rich, spicy, sweet and soul satisfying. The short rib is anything but run of the mill. And the sprouted lentils in the artic char dish deserved a starring role in a menu-missing vegetarian plate. The matcha themed dessert with its cool semifreddo and crunchly bits of bee pollen and not-too-sweet strawberry sorbet won us over, even though we normally dislike dessert. Suggestion for the bar: make better use of the wide selections of gin and your kitchen's creativity to concoct an interesting starter."

The scallops and walleye were executed very well, everyone enjoyed those dishes. The ribs, gnocchi, and tortellini en brodo were also excellent. Octopus was the dish that no one enjoyed, and we normally love Octopus. Great space and ambiance. The bar looked like a fantastic place to hang out. Overall a good experience."

  • "I was looking forward to Trencherman. However, from the moment I stepped in I was disappointed. The ambiance of "Spring" was much more inviting and "cool." Seems like they dumbed-down the look and feel. As to food: My Number One complaint: DON'T TELL ME that the chef requires that I order everything at once. When I spend close to $300 for two people, I don't want to feel rushed. It's about me, not the chef. And $30 for two medium sized scallops (one of which was cut in half) is a little over-priced."

  • "I set up a special brunch date for a friend and myself. I wanted to take her somewhere special and my roommates boyfriends never stops raving about this place. When I got there I was highly impressed with the staffs customer service and the ambiance was incredible. But the food was not impressive. For a $14 brunch it tasted more like a $9. Bottom line is its a hip and trendy restaurant in a hip and trendy neighborhood but its nothing special."

  • "We had a great experience at Trencherman. The service was great and the atmosphere is really cool. We had the pork ribs as an appetizer and it was by far my favorite thing we had. We also had the Wagyu Beef Tartare, and I wasn't really a fan of the crunchy texture. I got the scallops and they were good, but nothing to rave about. My boyfriend on the other hand got the Sheboygan Porchetta and it was delicious, I would highly recommend it!"

Both me and my guest had to order second drinks from the expeditor because our server never came by to check on us after taking our order 2. My guest asked a question about her meal after we were finished, and our server said she would check with the chef. She never retuned with an answer. 3. After dessert and our plates were cleared, our server dropped off the check without asking if we wanted coffee or anything else. 4. There was a $18 overcharge on our check"

There are so many combinations of spice and ingredients that the food was dazzling, but not to my taste. We ordered nine plates; 3 of them "entrees." The $400 tab for four left me mildly annoyed since we were all not satisfied - we walked out still hungry. The service was fantastic. Overall the experience was good. Another type of eater may enjoy it more than I. "
