Diner Reviews
  • "The food was absolutely delicious, truly felt like a farm to table experience. Everything was fresh and full of flavour. Service was impeccable. We really enjoyed our dining experience. Highly recommend anyone to try this restaurant!"

  • "Limited menu but what they had was very good: both of us enjoyed our dinners. Pretty limited menu - we decided to book elsewhere when we return in a couple of weeks since there was nothing else we wanted to try. Our server was friendly, but not exactly polished - diminished the fine dining experience. And despite the fact that many if not most tables were empty, they sat another pair right next to us, and the tables are very close together. I think for the prices they charge it is easy to do better in the area."

  • "Brunch on a beautiful Sunday. Patio was nice, good spacing, a little off the street which was cool. Cocktails were excellent (loved the Pimms!) The food was less than expected in terms of quantity and we felt a little more attention could have been paid to the salads (too much truffle oil without warning) and sides. Service was excellent. Our waitress knew just how to be attentive, but not obtrusive. We'll have to return to try a dinner seating."

  • "Food and service excellent as usual. Fantastic choice of wine from the region. By far the best restaurant in Niagara-on -the -Lake. Never a disappointment!"

  • "Food was very good including Red pepper soup, Mackerel filet with potato salad and Pasta dish. Very fresh and tasty. Service was a little spotty with a sizeable wait between soup and entrees. Servers also appeared to be slightly over worked with only 2 for a full house of about 40 patio diners. Noise level for an outdoor patio was also quite high"

  • "When we arrived at Treadwell, we were early for our reservation, so the staff recommended we wait in the wine bar. Headed over there where we were treated like royalty by Tom. Ended up ordering our dinners from the restaurant and eating them in the wine bar. An unforgettable evening for the 6 of us in our group."

  • "The current restaurant did not provide as good experience as we had when the restaurant was in Port Dahlousie. Tables were very close together."
    Dined on 7/16/2014
  • "This was our second time at Treadwell and we found the food to be just as good as before. We ate inside and it was not as restful. Big group arrived after we did and we served before we were. They were sitting right beside us and ordered just about the same meal as we did. Also, part of our order was missing. We were not charged for it."

  • "It's great to see Stephen and James spending time with customer instead of their staff. With the challenge of an open kitchen, the young team didn't disappoint at all. Chef and sou chef Matthew and Laura team delivered what we came to expect from Treadwell. Kudos to Chef Stephen for providing these budding culinary professionals the opportunity to perform and perfect their skill. Gord Ramsay can learn a thing or two here. We'll be back."

  • "Treadwell's move from St. Catharines to Niagara-on-the-Lake is absolutely brilliant. Even though the location is on the tourist stretch of Queen Street, the food is far from tourist nosh that until now, was all we could find in the area. No surprise that Treadwell is the IT place, where everything is done to perfection and where everyone knows your name. As both foodie and wino, this place is my heaven on earth. The food is in the fine dining genre but with a 'twist of Brit' ... which is what makes it all the more appealing and addictive. Treadwell could stand with the best in Toronto but I give thanks that with the opening last week of their Wine Bar, it doesn't look it they will moving there anytime soon. Kudos to Team Treadwell!"

  • "The first thing that impressed us when we arrived was the service. Every employee is service oriented, polite, helpful and smiling. On top of that, the food is excellent! Even the food assembling is above expectations. Thank you for the great expérience!!"

  • "This restaurant has a wonderful reputation in Niagra and we were disappointed because the food came out warm not hot. I didn't send it back because it would have been dried out if put in the microwave. So, what would have been good, was not the experience we had expected."

  • "Husband and I enjoyed one of the best meals we've had and we've eaten out across the world a great deal. The service was great (thanks Connor) and the food was memorable. I had the special which was short ribs, husband had the lamb and both were really simply prepared fresh and tasty. We got a recommendation for a local Canadian Pinot Noir and it was a compliment to the overall meal. This is a small restaurant but the concept of local, farm to table makes it one of the places I would go to time and time again. We also experienced a fantastic brunch before leaving NOTL. I would lighly recommend but be sure you have a reservation!"

  • "We had lunch and dinner here. Both first rate and much the best food in NOTL."

  • "... lots of flies buzzing around. You shouldn't have to be constantly swiping over your plate at an upscale restaurant. Would definitely go back though. Food was fantastic."
    Dined on 6/30/2014
  • "Food was fantastic, sommeiler she was great; however the "flys" were every where. We mentioned this to our server and she said this was normal. At one point we counted 13 flies by our table. Maybe close the door to the outside."

  • "This was the beginning to one of the best days of my life. I had plans set up later in the day to propose to my girlfriend and everything went perfectly. Including this delicious brunch. We ordered all the recommended dishes from our waitress, the lobster club on duck fat fried bread and an eggs benny. But the real star was the baked bacon pancake. This may have been one of the best things I have tasted, it was like a pancake cookie! it is a side dish and only served on Sundays so make sure you check this place out for Sunday brunch and don't overlook the side dishes. Highly recommend."

  • "Our first, and definitely not last, experience at Treadwell was absolutely delightful! From the moment we arrived we were greeted with welcoming smiles and the service remained top notch until the moment we left. Our meal consisted of 3 courses, each as unique and delicious as the next and our seat at the kitchen bar was exciting and informative. Jr. Sous Chef, Janine, took the time to explain each of our courses and the pride in the kitchen was evident with each bite we took. We can't wait to dine at Treadwell again and are especially excited for the upcoming wine bar!"

  • "Visited Treadwell for our 32nd Anniversary dinner. Food excellent. Restaurant smallish. A bit noisy but interesting as they cook in view of diners. Interesting listening them place orders for other guests so a little distracting on your own dinner conversations. Since it is a small restaurant it was easy to over hear their willingness to accommodate people for their food preferences. A little pricey but for the quality of food it was well worth it. The tomato mushroom bisque was amazing!"

  • "... vegetarian and vegan options, amidst much care and appreciation for meaty mains... dining here needs to be a bucket list item. Servers show sincere interest in your unique tastes. Try Treadwell today, to never again be indifferent about what you eat and where your meal comes from."

  • "Great dinner sopot for NOTL. Would suggest outdoors if weather good as likely less hot and noisy. Scallop appetizer excellent as was main course of Whitefish. Excellent Pannacotta. Wine seems pricey, but excellent advice from our Sommelier Tom. Wine Bar to open shortly which would be great for after theatre, as NOTL seems to close down after shows."

  • "The food and service was very good with the exception of the asparagus entree (egg and asparagus). It wasn't haute cuisine like the other dishes."

  • "My husband and I ate at Treadwell for our anniversary. This was our second dinner at Treadwell and same as the first the meal and experience were wonderful. I had written in the special request section that it was our anniversary and we would like to sit on the patio if possible. Not only did we get to sit on the patio, they also served us an excellent complimentary sparkling wine to start our meal. Our server and sommelier were both excellent - timing and recommendations were perfect. The food as with our first meal was incredible. The way flavors are paired and textures are layered within each dish is remarkable. And to do this all with local ingredients makes each dish even more stunning. Go to Treadwell for the meal of your life!"

  • "Made reservations for lunch before going to theatre. Sat outside, there were plenty of tables with shade. Our server was very efficient, and I especially liked that he did not call us "guys" when he introduced himself. He was very professional. We are husband and wife. We had excellent Flat Rock Reisling and an Ontario crafted beer. One order was a chicken sandwich on tasty wholegrain bread with a small salad. The other order was wide homemade noodles with mushrooms and ricotta cheese. Both dishes were excellent, just the right portion size. We had to leave quickly to attend the theatre but returned later for our dessert which consisted of a hazelnut/chocolate tart and a pannacotta with macerated strawberries. Both excellent."

  • "Our dinner was very tasty with good attention to my gluten free needs. The service staff was stretched as was the kitchen (open to the dining room) although the restaurant was not full. Our appetizers came promptly but our entree orders clearly got lost in the shuffle, which was not recognized by our waiter, although we had been wiring 45 minutes and could hear other similar orders being delivered. Finally, the manager got involved, realized what happened, and prioritized our order. She then, graciously, comped the entrees, poured us more wine while we waited, and made sure the rest of the meal was delivered promptly. We would try the place again because the food was good and hopefully they would be better staffed."

  • "This is a consistently excellent restaurant in terms of food, wine and service. Staff is knowledgeable and accommodating. James Treadwell has always been available for friendly wine advice and conversation even when the restaurant is busy. We look forward to the opening of the Wine Bar in July. Local residents who can be the harshest critics are faithful, repeat guests."

  • "Sat at the bar. Highly recommend the spot. Ordered two appetizers - the scallops and the prosciutto. For mains I had the lamb shank and my wife had the lobster from the lunch menu. They were kind enough to make it for her. Food quality was excellent. The scallops were some of the best we've had and came with a slab of pork belly that was perfectly deep fried and tender on the inside. Could have eaten a few more of those. Prosciutto was melt in your mouth. Found the lamb overlooked and the potatoes lacked punch. The lobster club was ok but the side salad was over salted. In general we found the use of salt a bit too generous. I'd rate Treadwells Niagara as an above average restaurant, worth a visit by any foodie who is in the area."

  • "James always makes us feel welcomed and right at home, addressing us by name even though we are infrequent patrons. The food is delicious and the portions are perfect. Their new location is gorgeous and I really like the patio because it's away from the road. Can't wait for the wine bar to open."

  • "We stayed at the hotel 124 on Queen and appreciated being able to dine at Treadwell's which is part of the hotel area. Dinner and wine were excellent. The sommelier made it special. She was knowledgeable about the wine and history of the area. I would recomend this."

  • "Classy, handsome, we'll-styled space with many pleasant choices on the menu for lunch this past Saturday. Fine selection of local beers served in a beautiful glass. Delicious homemade papperdelle w/sheeps milk ricotta & local asparagus."

  • "One of the top restaurants in Niagara (or Toronto, for that matter). The service was ridiculously friendly – where the food is the focus. Quality of ingredients is the true differentiator here. Ambiance/service was upscale but not overly formal. My only constructive feedback was that the servers seemed overwhelmed at times and were a little slow between visits/with the check. However, this did little to diminish our experience. Will return."
