Diner Reviews
  • "The first thing that impressed us when we arrived was the service. Every employee is service oriented, polite, helpful and smiling. On top of that, the food is excellent! Even the food assembling is above expectations. Thank you for the great expérience!!"

  • "This was the beginning to one of the best days of my life. I had plans set up later in the day to propose to my girlfriend and everything went perfectly. Including this delicious brunch. We ordered all the recommended dishes from our waitress, the lobster club on duck fat fried bread and an eggs benny. But the real star was the baked bacon pancake. This may have been one of the best things I have tasted, it was like a pancake cookie! it is a side dish and only served on Sundays so make sure you check this place out for Sunday brunch and don't overlook the side dishes. Highly recommend."

  • "This restaurant has a wonderful reputation in Niagra and we were disappointed because the food came out warm not hot. I didn't send it back because it would have been dried out if put in the microwave. So, what would have been good, was not the experience we had expected."

  • "Husband and I enjoyed one of the best meals we've had and we've eaten out across the world a great deal. The service was great (thanks Connor) and the food was memorable. I had the special which was short ribs, husband had the lamb and both were really simply prepared fresh and tasty. We got a recommendation for a local Canadian Pinot Noir and it was a compliment to the overall meal. This is a small restaurant but the concept of local, farm to table makes it one of the places I would go to time and time again. We also experienced a fantastic brunch before leaving NOTL. I would lighly recommend but be sure you have a reservation!"

  • "... lots of flies buzzing around. You shouldn't have to be constantly swiping over your plate at an upscale restaurant. Would definitely go back though. Food was fantastic."

  • "Food was fantastic, sommeiler she was great; however the "flys" were every where. We mentioned this to our server and she said this was normal. At one point we counted 13 flies by our table. Maybe close the door to the outside."

  • "Our first, and definitely not last, experience at Treadwell was absolutely delightful! From the moment we arrived we were greeted with welcoming smiles and the service remained top notch until the moment we left. Our meal consisted of 3 courses, each as unique and delicious as the next and our seat at the kitchen bar was exciting and informative. Jr. Sous Chef, Janine, took the time to explain each of our courses and the pride in the kitchen was evident with each bite we took. We can't wait to dine at Treadwell again and are especially excited for the upcoming wine bar!"

  • "Great dinner sopot for NOTL. Would suggest outdoors if weather good as likely less hot and noisy. Scallop appetizer excellent as was main course of Whitefish. Excellent Pannacotta. Wine seems pricey, but excellent advice from our Sommelier Tom. Wine Bar to open shortly which would be great for after theatre, as NOTL seems to close down after shows."

  • "Visited Treadwell for our 32nd Anniversary dinner. Food excellent. Restaurant smallish. A bit noisy but interesting as they cook in view of diners. Interesting listening them place orders for other guests so a little distracting on your own dinner conversations. Since it is a small restaurant it was easy to over hear their willingness to accommodate people for their food preferences. A little pricey but for the quality of food it was well worth it. The tomato mushroom bisque was amazing!"

  • "... vegetarian and vegan options, amidst much care and appreciation for meaty mains... dining here needs to be a bucket list item. Servers show sincere interest in your unique tastes. Try Treadwell today, to never again be indifferent about what you eat and where your meal comes from."

  • "The air conditioning was not functioning well. We asked to open a window, but were told no. Our server did not know the answer to several of our questions, including about the wine and made no effort to get answers. The trout was excellent, but my husband was very disappointed in his ribeye and no steak knife was served. ,the fois gras was very good, but saying it is served with toasted brioche is a joke, minuscule cubes! We asked for bread. We were so hot, we passed on ordering dessert. By the way, red wine should not be served warm. Not chilled, but certainly not warm."

  • "We were fortunate to get a reservation at Treadwell's on short notice. Usually booking a week ahead is recommended. We opted for an early dinner before the theatre. The service was very friendly and professional. We asked to taste the wine recommended by our server before committing. Finding it not to our taste, she found us another that was just what we wanted with our meal. The food was promptly served and remarkable for its presentation and taste. Interesting combinations of flavours on each plate. If you can't make dinner, be sure to get here for lunch."

  • "The food and service was very good with the exception of the asparagus entree (egg and asparagus). It wasn't haute cuisine like the other dishes."

  • "My husband and I ate at Treadwell for our anniversary. This was our second dinner at Treadwell and same as the first the meal and experience were wonderful. I had written in the special request section that it was our anniversary and we would like to sit on the patio if possible. Not only did we get to sit on the patio, they also served us an excellent complimentary sparkling wine to start our meal. Our server and sommelier were both excellent - timing and recommendations were perfect. The food as with our first meal was incredible. The way flavors are paired and textures are layered within each dish is remarkable. And to do this all with local ingredients makes each dish even more stunning. Go to Treadwell for the meal of your life!"

  • "Our dinner was very tasty with good attention to my gluten free needs. The service staff was stretched as was the kitchen (open to the dining room) although the restaurant was not full. Our appetizers came promptly but our entree orders clearly got lost in the shuffle, which was not recognized by our waiter, although we had been wiring 45 minutes and could hear other similar orders being delivered. Finally, the manager got involved, realized what happened, and prioritized our order. She then, graciously, comped the entrees, poured us more wine while we waited, and made sure the rest of the meal was delivered promptly. We would try the place again because the food was good and hopefully they would be better staffed."

  • "Made reservations for lunch before going to theatre. Sat outside, there were plenty of tables with shade. Our server was very efficient, and I especially liked that he did not call us "guys" when he introduced himself. He was very professional. We are husband and wife. We had excellent Flat Rock Reisling and an Ontario crafted beer. One order was a chicken sandwich on tasty wholegrain bread with a small salad. The other order was wide homemade noodles with mushrooms and ricotta cheese. Both dishes were excellent, just the right portion size. We had to leave quickly to attend the theatre but returned later for our dessert which consisted of a hazelnut/chocolate tart and a pannacotta with macerated strawberries. Both excellent."

  • "This is a consistently excellent restaurant in terms of food, wine and service. Staff is knowledgeable and accommodating. James Treadwell has always been available for friendly wine advice and conversation even when the restaurant is busy. We look forward to the opening of the Wine Bar in July. Local residents who can be the harshest critics are faithful, repeat guests."

  • "Sat at the bar. Highly recommend the spot. Ordered two appetizers - the scallops and the prosciutto. For mains I had the lamb shank and my wife had the lobster from the lunch menu. They were kind enough to make it for her. Food quality was excellent. The scallops were some of the best we've had and came with a slab of pork belly that was perfectly deep fried and tender on the inside. Could have eaten a few more of those. Prosciutto was melt in your mouth. Found the lamb overlooked and the potatoes lacked punch. The lobster club was ok but the side salad was over salted. In general we found the use of salt a bit too generous. I'd rate Treadwells Niagara as an above average restaurant, worth a visit by any foodie who is in the area."

  • "James always makes us feel welcomed and right at home, addressing us by name even though we are infrequent patrons. The food is delicious and the portions are perfect. Their new location is gorgeous and I really like the patio because it's away from the road. Can't wait for the wine bar to open."

  • "We had a great experience at Treadwell - food was interesting, well prepared and beautifully plated. Service was excellent - and they accommodate the pre-Shaw Festival crowd well. We had three great meals in Niagara-on-the-Lake, and this was definitely our favorite. The waitress overheard us discussing my birthday - and a candle and dessert appeared. The wine list is limited to Niagra wines (typical) and the food options were not extensive (also typical for the area) but there was plenty to please. We shared a delicious beef cheek risotto - which was surprising light, and then really enjoyed the lamb shank and crispy skin pickerel smothered in interesting mushrooms. It's a small place - so reservations are mandatory."

  • "Classy, handsome, we'll-styled space with many pleasant choices on the menu for lunch this past Saturday. Fine selection of local beers served in a beautiful glass. Delicious homemade papperdelle w/sheeps milk ricotta & local asparagus."

  • "One of the top restaurants in Niagara (or Toronto, for that matter). The service was ridiculously friendly – where the food is the focus. Quality of ingredients is the true differentiator here. Ambiance/service was upscale but not overly formal. My only constructive feedback was that the servers seemed overwhelmed at times and were a little slow between visits/with the check. However, this did little to diminish our experience. Will return."

  • "We stayed at the hotel 124 on Queen and appreciated being able to dine at Treadwell's which is part of the hotel area. Dinner and wine were excellent. The sommelier made it special. She was knowledgeable about the wine and history of the area. I would recomend this."

  • "Great food, impeccable service in vibrant atmosphere in Niagara on the Lake. Loved fact that could bring my own wine and charged only $15 corkage per bottle."

  • "We always enjoy our experience at Treadwells. We had a tasting menu which was paired with wines. The food, wine and hospitality were excellent-one of our best dinners ever! Highly recommend this place!"

  • "We were constantly amazed at the delicious food and wonderful wine in Niagara on the Lake. Treadwell was great. The scallops with cauliflower puree and roasted cauliflower with capers was just delectable. The roasted red pepper soup was sublime. The fish was done perfectly and my homemade pasta dish was a winner. One of the chefs noticed that my husband fries were not stacked high enough so she sent out other order. We casually mentioned to the waitress, as she was so friendly, that we were celebrating our anniversary and upon leaving they gave a us a large jar of homemade jam. The owner came over and told us his secret smoky taste to the red pepper soup, which I tried at home. Thank you Mr. Treadwell. Go there everyone!!!"

  • "My husband and I had dinner at Treadwell in early June and were very happy with our food. Sourced locally, the food was cooked pretty well perfectly and arrived in a timely manner. We found the service a little slow initially, but that was really only a minor complaint. I would certainly recommend Treadwell to anyone who wants an expertly cooked meal in a stylish restaurant."

  • "I've dined at Treadwell at the old Port Dalhousie location and was looking for a nice place to dine with my beau. I was looking for an upscale restaurant with excellent food and an impeccable wine list. Ordered two apps and two entrees as well as a bottle of local wine recommended by the sommelier. I simply cannot argue that each dish was delicious and divine. The price point is as expected for a place situated in NOTL. The only thing I can comment with hesitation is that I wish the portion sizes were more substantial. Although I understand the smaller portion sizes in certain restaurants, I can't help but feel that after ordering an appetizer and entree per person that I should be happily full with a tiny bit of room for desert/port."
