Diner Reviews
  • "Loved this restaurant for so many reasons. Nice atmosphere. Quiet enough for my 89 year old mother to hear everyone. Varied menu, including a Restaurant Supported Agriculture 3-course special (Fridays), lots of gluten free options including GF pasta. They also had 1/2 portions of their entrees. And it's in Forestial Village so you don't have to deal with Princeton crowds on the weekend. Would definitely recommend."

  • "My husband & I have eaten at fine restaurants in NYC & San Francisco as well as many cities in Italy. The menu here offers a wide range of choices & the meals we chose were wonderful. We shared a fabulous pasta & my husbands Rock Cornish Game Hen was superb as was my Cicken Picatta! The ambience is comfortable & the service is friendly & informed. We enjoyed a leisurely & delicious dinner. We are happy to recommend this restaurant."

  • "Popular after work spot for professionals in the area. Nice on weekends, too. We were seated promptly and well taken care of. Try the beet salad - excellent!"

  • "Everything was excellent, from the appetizers, to the main meal and finally dessert. Everything was very good and wait staff was attentive. Only negative I could say was it's not really a "romantic" spot but still very nice and great food."

  • "My wife and I had a wonderful Valentine's Day dinner. We have eaten here several times before and the food was very good as usual. We will be back in the future."

  • "Relatively weak wine list and food is only fair. When we do choose to go, we prefer sitting at the bar though unfortunately Chris the bartender is no longer working there..."

  • "Table was ready and the host greeted us by name, as we were punctual. Service was remarkable and friendly. Food was very good. A varied and good wine menu. Prices were appropriate for quality of food."

  • "Our server bailed on our table to go work the bar without notifying us or handing us off to another server. We literally did not see a server at our table after placing our entree order. No one checked on us after the runner delivered the entrees. Water and wine glasses sat empty for the majority of our meal. When I tracked down the manager / owner (?) he seemed less than concerned. I'm pulling my substantial corporate business and will not take my family back. Very disappointing."

  • "I've been here several times now and have been mostly thrilled with my meal. Skip the Calamari. Certainly get the meatballs and anything in a Red Sauce. It is awesome. My hubby had a creamed based pasta dish and it was VERY rich and he did not like it as much. He does not care for tomatos so he shys away from the red sauces but he LOVED my dish. I like the ambiance there and the staff has always been extermely attentive and helpful. I've been there in the winter but it looks like they have a great padio for dinning and drinks in the nicer weather."

  • "We had a early reservation and the atmosphere was nice and quiet which added to our enjoyment. Our server, Ashley was superb. She was attentive, knew the menu, had a great sense of humor and just added to our enjoyment. The food as always was excellent. For a change, we decided to order half orders of pasta for starters, which were certanly ample for an appetizer (for some restaurants, it may have qulified for a main course!) and were delicious. For the main course, we had the checken saltimboca and the Rib Eye steak(which could be cut with a fork) The chicken was excellent. Also, that night, there was a 50% off of the food bill but the food and experience would have been great at any price."

  • "We had a reservation, when we showed up on time the owner showed us to our table in the bar on a saturday night. Not what we reserved or what we were expecting. Our waiter was the bartender who had an entire bar full of people to serve. He did everything he could but was put in a bad situation. We paid a lot of money and will never ever go back there. The owner should know what the lifetime value of a customer is, in our case it is the $150 we spent and never another cent, and we have dined there at least 10-15 times"

  • "Had dinner with my wife and daughter the other day. I have always ben a fan of the space as well as the roomy bar. Chris the bartender is always welcoming and happy to chat...or not depending on your pleasure. The wine list is generally of poor quality (particularly by the glass) and I struggled to find anything. Most are very young and of marginal quality. As for the food...its what I expected. Both my wife and daughter enjoyed their dishes very much but mine was poor - leg of lamb special with fall vegetables. Sounds good, I know but overcooked and tough. No reason to hurry back."

  • "I ate there with my family and father-in-law and we had a very enjoyable meal. The food was very good, as it has been when I have been there before. I would recommend the special chocolate dessert at the start of the meal as otherwise you have to wait 20-30 minutes, but my daughter said it was worth the wait. Overall a very good experience."

  • "We went with a party of 10 people and it took about 1/2 hour to get drink service after we sat down. Otherwise, the food was good, the service improved after initially waiting awhile and the company (in our party) was outstanding!"

  • "The food was good, our service was slow and erratic."

  • "Excellent service, they accommodated two different food allergies without making a fuss. The wine pairings the waiter suggested were perfect. Some of the best oysters I've ever eaten. We will definitely eat there the next time we're in Princeton. Tre Piani is a much better alternative than other restaurants along Route 1, and much easier to get into with a last minute booking than restaurants near Nassau Street."

  • "we took advantage of their "dine and ride" and arrived and left in a stretch limo! how special. meals are always fab- shared butternut squash carbonara, which was part of the special menu that they happily allowed us to chose just this dish. taste was wonderful fall flavor with just a perfect amount of prosciutto. DH and I both chose the Barnegat flounder which comes with arugula and sweet potato fries. just marvelous. our companions shared a Caesar and chose the chicken and seafood risotto. excellent bottle of sauvignon blanc!"

  • "The quality of the food was not at the same level of the prices. My $28 duck breast entree was Tough and flavor less. The cannoli cake was a supermarket sheet cake quality."

  • "Having dined at Tre Piani since its opening many moons ago we were impressed by the quality and care of the food on our most recent visit. On Fridays Tre Piani features one fixed-menu option highlighting local agriculture. This time around it included a very hearty potato leek soup with plenty of both items, fresh and flavorful; a choice of entree and a dessert, all at a very reasonable price. We also tried pizza, a cracker-thin crust with prosciutto and arugula but also thin slices of apple which I had not had on pizza before and worked very well. Tre Piani marries popular dishes with some new and original presentations for a very successful neighborhood Italian dining experience."

  • "The $29 3-course RSA dinner offered on Fridays is the best deal in town!! Corn chowder and heirloom tomato salad were great first courses. Scallops over penne and stuffed flounder over risotto were delicious. Mango sorbet with fresh blueberries and a dollop if cream was refreshing. Sitting outside on a beautiful summer night made it a perfect evening. The surrounding fig trees made us feel like we were in Italy. Molto grazie!"

  • "a treat for this restaurant to be open on a sunday and it was very busy! unfortunately a rainy night so we were unable to eat outside. we shared a Caesar salad to start which was so large that 2 of us could not finish! dh had a rib eye... the leftovers are fabulous. I tried the crispy spaghetti..absolutely plate licking good! a nice chianti rounded out the meal!"
