A word from Tre Amici
More than 20 years ago, three Italian boys from the Jersey Shore met on the baseball diamond, intent on dominating their local little league division. Now, they are returning to their roots, intent on dominating the New Jersey restaurant scene. Celebrated chef Matthew Zappoli, brother Paul Zappoli, and lifelong friend Michael Cacciuttolo have opened Tre Amici, or "Three Friends," on Ocean Avenue in Long Branch.

The three graduates of Middletown High School North, after making their careers elsewhere, have come home to Monmouth County. Executive Chef Matthew Zappoli, a graduate of the prestigious Culinary Institute of America, hails from the kitchens of some of America's most celebrated restaurateurs – including Charlie Palmer and Sami Ledeki. Zappoli's innovative menus have pleased the palates of audiences in Manhattan, Las Vegas, San Diego, and Sonoma wine country.

  • "First time in the new location and found it very different. We loved the place so much we bought vouchers on Amazon and recommended it to friends also. We are now stuck with 4 vouchers between 3 couples, it is not the place it was when we purchased them. Very noisy, tables very close together and our chairs were getting bumped every time someone came out of the kitchen. Very disappointed! Out of 4 of us, 2 meals were good and 2 were just tasteless. Too little for the money now."

  • "The New Location on Brighton Avenue is much smaller than the previous restaurant. It was so loud we could barely hear each other. That - coupled with the fact that the tables are crowded together - provided an unpleasant experience. Patrons and Staff kept bumping into us all night. The food is the same - and good - but the menu has changed. No more great side dishes. I don't think we'll return."

  • "Took my fiancé here for his birthday after reading the rave reviews well they were right the food was spectacular! Not a huge menu but thats okay because they are probably good at everything they make. I had the scallops with shrimp risotto and it was fabulous. The risotto was cooked perfectly and it was probably one of the best meals I've tasted until I tasted the duck that my fiancé ordered and it just melted in your mouth. Needless to say will definitely return sometime and would definitely recommend giving it a try to anyone looking for a nice dinner out with a deliciously perfected menu."

  • "We visited Tre Amici's new location for restaurant week, we enjoyed the $30.14 price fixed menu & our server was efficient. The problem with the new location is the sq. area of the restaurant it's approx. 1/3 of the old location, which did not have a liquor license they now have a lovely bar, which takes up approx. 1/4th of the floor space of this location. Table proximity were very close to each other & the noise level made it hard to have a conversation. They have place a table for 2 in front of the entrance to the ladies & men's room? The couple who were seated there had people squeezing pass to get by to behind the velvet curtain to use the facilities? Not my idea of a relaxing meal?"

  • "Although my husband and I enjoyed our dinner , sitting directly in front of the bathroom was insulting , uncomfortable and intolerable! There should Not ever be a table there as while we are eating , other customers are walking within inches of our table to go to the bathroom . In addition, the downsizing of the space in order to have a bar, as they were previously a BYOB, has taken away some of the allure that they had going for them. It's not the same restaurant that we grew a fondness for and chances are we are striking them from our list of go to restaurants."

  • "Went in on a Fri. night, had a waiter Vincenso who was very knowlegable of the menu as well as a personable guy. He was very attentive without hovering about, great combo. Food very tasty & nice presentation. The two guitar players were talented at were able to be heard without overpowering any conversation, ( And we were relatively close to them)."

  • "Jam packed on a Friday night. They had some guitar music playing. Food was delicious. Especially the short rib with risotto. My son usually doesn't like cheese ravioli but ate every bite. My veal Marsala was ok, could've used some garlic. Service was a little slow but it could have been a staffing issue. We have been here before and didn't have same experience. Salad was $14 which I thought was high but we split it. Entrees $22-29. Like this restaurant. Look forward to going again"

  • "This was my third visit. The previous times my entrees were excellent but this time around they fell short. We had a reservation at 9:15pm and had to wait a few minutes which wasn't a big deal. We had the cured meats for our app. The meat and chese were delicious but it was a bit oily. I ordered the fettucinni with shrimp. It took a very long time to get our food. The flavor was bland. It had a lot of mushrooms. It was a brown sauce which in my opinion didn't go with the shrimp. Our overall experience was dissapointing."

  • "One negative was the worst Bolognese sauce we have ever had. There was no creaminess to it and it had a slight sour taste. The other negative was our waiter who spoke too loudly, got us cold stale bread, forgot the butter and twice nearly hit one of us with a dish. He really was not paying attention yet appeared to think he was doing such a great job. We have had this same waiter before and can't understand why he still allowed to work there. Positives were tasty short ribs, chocolate cake, orange sorbet, ambience."

My cannoli almost slid off the plate as it was tossed to my place. It was an inconvenience to ask for cheese or pepper. Large party in the next room increased the noise level. Food was ok, but nothing spectacular. Skip the clams casino. No clams, just overcooked breadding. Skip the tiramisu, just flavored pudding."

  • "when we left at about 7pm there was about 20 covers. The calamari fritti was excellent although a little overpriced at $14. all else was done well. Entrees were ranging in the 20's. App's in the low teens. The only misstep was the chocolate cake. It is supposed to have a molten chocolate core. It needs to be heated before service for that to happen. The cake's exterior arrived rock hard and inedible."

  • "This restaurant is a local gem and one of the few that makes their own pasta. My only wish is that on Saturday Nights, I could order Chicken Parmagiano. I've had it there before and my favorite with homemade linguini, but not available on weekends. Maybe they could add it to the regular menu?"
