A word from Tre Amici
More than 20 years ago, three Italian boys from the Jersey Shore met on the baseball diamond, intent on dominating their local little league division. Now, they are returning to their roots, intent on dominating the New Jersey restaurant scene. Celebrated chef Matthew Zappoli, brother Paul Zappoli, and lifelong friend Michael Cacciuttolo have opened Tre Amici, or "Three Friends," on Ocean Avenue in Long Branch.

The three graduates of Middletown High School North, after making their careers elsewhere, have come home to Monmouth County. Executive Chef Matthew Zappoli, a graduate of the prestigious Culinary Institute of America, hails from the kitchens of some of America's most celebrated restaurateurs – including Charlie Palmer and Sami Ledeki. Zappoli's innovative menus have pleased the palates of audiences in Manhattan, Las Vegas, San Diego, and Sonoma wine country.

Diner Reviews
  • "Although my husband and I enjoyed our dinner , sitting directly in front of the bathroom was insulting , uncomfortable and intolerable! There should Not ever be a table there as while we are eating , other customers are walking within inches of our table to go to the bathroom . In addition, the downsizing of the space in order to have a bar, as they were previously a BYOB, has taken away some of the allure that they had going for them. It's not the same restaurant that we grew a fondness for and chances are we are striking them from our list of go to restaurants."

  • "Went in on a Fri. night, had a waiter Vincenso who was very knowlegable of the menu as well as a personable guy. He was very attentive without hovering about, great combo. Food very tasty & nice presentation. The two guitar players were talented at were able to be heard without overpowering any conversation, ( And we were relatively close to them)."

  • "Jam packed on a Friday night. They had some guitar music playing. Food was delicious. Especially the short rib with risotto. My son usually doesn't like cheese ravioli but ate every bite. My veal Marsala was ok, could've used some garlic. Service was a little slow but it could have been a staffing issue. We have been here before and didn't have same experience. Salad was $14 which I thought was high but we split it. Entrees $22-29. Like this restaurant. Look forward to going again"

  • "Always a great meal. Be sure to make reservations and bring your own wine. All of their menu items are cooked fresh. They make their own pastas and desserts. During the week they are a pri fix menu that is very affordable . Their specials are always excellent."

  • "Excellent menu options made it difficult to decide! Enjoyed the hanger steak special served with fresh seasonal vegetables and garlic mashed potatoes. Steak cooked to perfection. Our server, Erin, was exceptional - attentive, provided descriptive menu offerings, offered substitution for sides very professional. Highly recommend and we will be back!"

  • "This was my third visit. The previous times my entrees were excellent but this time around they fell short. We had a reservation at 9:15pm and had to wait a few minutes which wasn't a big deal. We had the cured meats for our app. The meat and chese were delicious but it was a bit oily. I ordered the fettucinni with shrimp. It took a very long time to get our food. The flavor was bland. It had a lot of mushrooms. It was a brown sauce which in my opinion didn't go with the shrimp. Our overall experience was dissapointing."

  • "As a repeat guest, Tre Amici never disappoints. Consistently very good- eggplant rollatini is the best I've had anywhere- perfection. Seasonings on the stuffed pork chop - outstanding. Vegetables are fresh and crisp but always tender."

  • "We have been to Tre Amici quite a few times and have always had a great time and greet food! The servers are very knowledgeable. I usually order the Pan Seared Scallops which are awesome! Love this place!"

  • "One negative was the worst Bolognese sauce we have ever had. There was no creaminess to it and it had a slight sour taste. The other negative was our waiter who spoke too loudly, got us cold stale bread, forgot the butter and twice nearly hit one of us with a dish. He really was not paying attention yet appeared to think he was doing such a great job. We have had this same waiter before and can't understand why he still allowed to work there. Positives were tasty short ribs, chocolate cake, orange sorbet, ambience."
    Dined on 2/26/2014
  • "All of our food was really salty (we were a group of 6) and the desert wasn't all that gret, the cocoa on the chocolate cake was just too over powering and not enough ice cream"
    Dined on 2/16/2014
  • "I LOVE Tre Amici. Brad, our waiter, was FANTASTIC...just a pleasure to have him as our host. The stuffed porkchop milanese may be the single best entree I have EVER eaten."
    Dined on 2/18/2014
  • "Unfortunately, the food and service was not up to expectations. Our waiter was lazy at best. Steak knives were thrown on the table on the wrong side of the setting. My cannoli almost slid off the plate as it was tossed to my place. It was an inconvenience to ask for cheese or pepper. Large party in the next room increased the noise level. Food was ok, but nothing spectacular. Skip the clams casino. No clams, just overcooked breadding. Skip the tiramisu, just flavored pudding."

  • "This is a great restaurant. We have gone on numerous times, and the food has been great. We have taken friends there and they all love it, and have gone on their own with others. There is something for everyone, and we especially appreciate the gluten-free pasta, as my husband has celiac. We love that it is a BYOB. Can't think of anything we would change,"

  • "It was my first time eating there and the food was delicious! We had the mussels, clams, scallops and everything was fresh and well seasoned!"

  • "when we left at about 7pm there was about 20 covers. The calamari fritti was excellent although a little overpriced at $14. all else was done well. Entrees were ranging in the 20's. App's in the low teens. The only misstep was the chocolate cake. It is supposed to have a molten chocolate core. It needs to be heated before service for that to happen. The cake's exterior arrived rock hard and inedible."

  • "Food and service were very good. We drove from Barnegat. It is worth the 50 Minute drive. We will dine here again,"

  • "This restaurant is a local gem and one of the few that makes their own pasta. My only wish is that on Saturday Nights, I could order Chicken Parmagiano. I've had it there before and my favorite with homemade linguini, but not available on weekends. Maybe they could add it to the regular menu?"

  • "We go here pretty often, sometimes just the 2 of us and sometimes with friends. The food is outstanding; no matter what I've ordered, it has always been consistently fresh and delicious. The service is always wonderful...each person we encounter is friendly, professional and helpful. I can't say enough good things about this restaurant - definitely one of my top 3 in Monmouth County."

  • "This was our first visit to Tre Amici. I love an Italian restaurant with an imaginative menu, and Tre Amici delivered on that. They also offered basics, and the good news is, it was all delicious. My husband loved his rabbit, calling it aromatic and tasty. My Dad, a salmon lover, said it was the best salmon he'd ever had! I had a yummy fish dish, skate, with cauliflower gratin and cauliflower puree. And my Mom loved her scallops. We can't wait to go back!"

  • "We eat at Tre Amici in Long Branch last night. My first complaint is that I was given a "no show" on my open table reservation. I was not aware of this until this morning. The service was very good and the first course of Pasta was very good as well. I ordered the pork chop, which was recommended by our server. I was not told, not would I have ever thought the the pork chop was DEEP FRIED. This made the pork chop tough and dry. I sent it back and was offered another dish, but declined the offer. I was charged for the dish, but was offered dessert and coffee . We did take one dessert, Tartufo, which was not very good. My wife enjoyed her scallops. They were small, but cooked well."

  • "The pasta dishes were delicious. The pasta was extremely fresh and cooked to perfection. However, the appetizers were way too skimpy for the prices. Also, the tables were too close. The service is always excellent."

The salad and main course were both delicious and cooked to my liking- special requests from several at our table were handled with no problem. service was solid and the waiter was friendly. would definitely return & would recommend to others looking for good italian food."
